McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge - Their "creole soup" - definitely can't recommend - very strange flavors and way overcooked meat

The restaurant has an awesome patio with a view of the river while you enjoy a few tiki drinks or food. This location has a number of hidden rooms with unique glow in the dark artwork covering the rooms! Well worth your time to explore the hotel , following clues to the hidden rooms and speakeasy!! Tip- book early before the rooms with patios sell out. Also, live entertainment is often available, check the website to see what fun events are upcoming!

This might be my favorite McMenamins location yet! We had a beautiful room with a spectacular view of the river. I'm already excitedly talking about when we'll return. At the Pub we had helpful servers and the food was delicious. We've been to many other McMenamins locations before but we never had breakfast at one before this visit! There's a lot of great variety on the breakfast menu, like benedicts, cheddar-jalapeno grits, and French toast. At dinner we loved trying out the location-specific menu items - the King Kalama burger and the Hawaii Five-O Pressed Sandwich, as well as the Saigon Kick Chicken Tenders. All was substantial and all was tasty. As always, we loved the dark, whimsical decor of the whole place. It set such a cool vibe during our visit and made our dining experience/stay fun and memorable. I highly recommend even if you're just stopping in for a drink!

But we couldn't have asked for a better experience than the one Boris and Lisa provided us with at Lewis River Bed and Breakfast. This place has breathtaking views along the water and a deck from which to watch the sunrise and sunset while eating any of your meals. Our hosts went out of their way to cater to us and add those special touches throughout the room, in the main house, and when eating. For example, when we were trying to decide what to have for dinner, Lisa provided us with menus and helpful descriptions of local food offerings. We got pizza delivered and Lisa had chilled a bottle of wine for us to enjoy while we sat outside and took in the view. And breakfast was to die for with French toast with fresh berries and syrup, bacon, fresh melon, eggs, juices... this is a place I would love to visit again and look forward to seeing our wonderful hosts again

She would make an amazing manager and I genuinely hope that she gets recognized as an amazing asset to her team and truly should be considered to be the manager. Upon entering my room, there was urine stains on the toilet, trash all on the floor, beds not clean, and most disturbingly, c** stains on the floor and toilet. We went to the desk to ask for a new room. We were placed in 214. Unlocked the door with our room key, and to our UNPLEASANT SURPRISE, there were folks in the bed doing DRUGS and someone in the shower. We ran out to the front. We grabbed our stuff and asked for a refund. Jazz had to call Kayla for assistance. This is where things get worse. KAYLA the "manager" was the most rude, uncaring, unhelpful, and disrespectful manager I have ever had the displeasure to come into contact with. I want KAYLAS AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE, COMPLETE LACK OF EMPATHY, AND AWFUL CARE OF THIS PROPERTY TO BE INVESTIGATED. She asked "well what's wrong with the room we gave you?" As if we didn't explain it to her twice. She then asked why we wanted to leave, which makes absolutely no sense considering this place is UNSAFE due to lack of CONSIDERATION OF PRIVACY!!!!! We said, we don't want anyone walking into our room in the middle of the night. She said that would be impossible- well obviously it wasn't. She was also very rude to her assistant manager who was going the absolute best she could to help us. KAYLA should not have been disrespectful to Jazz at all. Jazz was the only good thing in that hotel. Kayla was absolutely awful and will steer any business they ever get away. Kayla made us jump through extra hoops to even get our refund. Which btw, we still haven't gotten. STEER AWAY!!! DO NOT COME HERE. MANAGEMENT: fire Kayla. For the sake of your business!!!! Jazz would be amazing manager.

I booked through hotels.com and she was able to fix something I couldn't do through Hotels.com. It took her a while but she was super helpful and made it happen. That's always a good way to start a stay. We were in room 117 with 2 queen beds. 4 pillows each. Mattresses were comfortable. Pillows were a good mix of firm and medium. Sheets were soft. AC/Heat was great. Bathroom was very small. The door barely missed the toilet but it's fine. (:-) It's cramped but functional and I love the big huge bath counter outside the bathroom. Lots of space to spread out. So I'm not complaining at all. The big counter is way more important than the cramped potty room. The breakfast was a typical lower end continental breakfast plus PEELED hard boiled eggs and ONE waffle maker. It was ok for free. Get there early because it can be a long wait for a waffle. They DO have excellent yogurt in the fridge with milk so don't miss yogurt. We took several back to the room and then skipped the breakfast on the 2nd morning because breakfast closes at 9:30. Here's a fridge in the room so we had yogurt this morning. I don't need the sugar in the prepackaged muffins and breakfast rolls. If you find this review Helpful please VOTE!

We usually stay within the Hilton portfolio when traveling, but for this trip to Southwest…read moreWashington, surprisingly, we weren't able to find any Hilton properties available for our dates. That led us to look at other options, and we ended up booking here for a four-night stay in late September. The booking process was straightforward--I was able to use an older account I had from years ago when I was traveling internationally, particularly in France. Back then, I had the impression Best Western was more of a smaller, regional brand in the western U.S., but it's actually much larger than I realized, with 18 brands across more than 100 countries and territories. In terms of experience, Best Western feels a step below our usual Hilton stays. That being said, check-in was simple, though not quite as seamless as we're used to since there was no digital key option. We had to wait at the front desk for a bit with two other guests ahead of us, which wasn't a major issue but did add to the first impression. The property itself is dated, and unfortunately that showed throughout our stay. Our room, while clean enough, felt dark and somewhat tired, even with most of the lights switched on. The bed was comfortable and we did appreciate that the room was fairly quiet at night, which made for decent sleep. However, there were some details that left us less than comfortable. The shower water never got beyond lukewarm, which was disappointing. There was leftover blue painter's tape on the ceiling and around the shower--presumably from a recent paint job. There was a cobweb from the ceiling down to the shade on one of the lamps. Those kinds of details made the room feel unfinished. We didn't make much use of the amenities on-site, since this stay was primarily about having a base while we explored the areas between Vancouver and Longview/Kelso. Because of that, our perspective is limited to the room itself and the general upkeep of the property. Overall, it served its purpose, but we didn't feel entirely at ease here. Would we stay again? If it were the only option within our price range, yes. But next time we'd likely do more research ahead of time to see if a local hotel, a small motel, an Airbnb, or even a bed and breakfast might offer a more comfortable alternative.

They helped with getting an extra blanket, and answered questions I had. Room: very comfortable beds. Very clean room with plenty of towels in the bathroom. There is a larger mini fridge and a microwave. It was nice to have the fridge to store food I had brought. Swimming Pool: small indoor pool and tiny hot tub. Both were warm. The front desk has to unlock the pool which is great for safety. My kids had a lot of fun playing in the pool. Breakfast: Amazing selection for breakfast. Several different stations around the big room it's served in which is nice for not having to wait in line for one thing. My kid's loved the make your own waffle station. But the service representative at the front desk was genuinely incredibly rude about informing us of this and showed zero hospitality and politeness. Its not his fault that the building seems to have incredibly micromanaged and strict regulations though, so I'm sure he was only trying to follow policy. Which is fine! But he showed zero candor, politeness or anything at all and coldly told us we'd have to book another room for the fifth person. We ended up needing to have someone sleep in the car for the night. Do not come here if you have 5 or more people, the website barely describes the 4 person policy and it is enforced so thouroughly by the management that it leaves absolutely no room for the staff to be able to provide a welcoming and inviting experience for your average inn enjoyer. After this experience we decided that we wanted to cancel our second night to prevent someone from sleeping in the car again, however they have a policy you have to sign that made it so we would not get a refund whatsoever for that night so we ended up being forced to pay for the second night anyway and go to another hotel. Unbelievably poor service and policies, rude staff, and all around an unpleasent affair.
