Refresh Coffee Bar at Kaiser Hesperia

I like it here. I have been here a few times, including to get the Covid vaccine. They do require a mask of everyone that enters and they can get pretty backed up at check-in. However, they have three self check-in kiosks that few people use. They also have a coffee shop that's open Monday - Wednesday 8:30-12:30pm, closed Thursday and Friday. Location includes a pharmacy so no need to drive to the Victorville location if Hesperia is closer. There is, however, very little social distancing at this location so be mindful and remember your mask.

I was worried when I signed up for Kaiser I'd have to either a.) commute to Fontana or b.) Use the Victorville location (no thank you!).

There was no sympathy from the staff with the communication issues- language barriers not being accommodated. Imposition of their rigid protocols and policies to two elderly adults who were so confused in navigating the healthcare system by themselves that no useful assistance was gained from the office visits. This is almost always true in dealing with a cold mechanical organisation which personal touch is a cliche or non existent. For this business entity, it's 'business as usual'. They do not deserve our payments in the future.

I gave birth 8 weeks ago and was still heavily bleeding so I went to the ER to get some help. Did I wait forever? Yes. However, when will you go the ER and NOT wait forever. This hospital is understaffed and is overflowing with Covid patients due to the....area...we live in, but you'll notice that all the staff members are so sweet despite probably working overtime and not eating for 10 or so hours. They're honestly trying their best with what they've got to work with, which at the end of the day is all I really care about. To my hospital helpers while I spent all day away from my new baby for the first time--thank you for taking care of me and keeping me company. Gabby and Shelli talked to me a bunch in preop and were so sweet and warm with me, Julie said sorry a bunch while gingerly sticking a COVID test up my nose, Ryan#1 got me a warm blanket while I was chilly in preop (an angel), and Ryan#2 kept my wedding bands safe while I was having my procedure done (just like he said he would--you get 5 stars, Ryan). And lastly, to Chris who is a great conversationalist and was the first person I talked to after I woke up from anesthesia. I hope your Christmas (Eve) is fantastic and that your el pollo loco that night was delicious. Again, no idea if anyone really reads reviews about hospitals, but I don't care. Hopefully these healthcare workers see it and know how grateful I am for their help

We show up for the follow, and they tell us they can't see him because all follow ups must be within 14 days of release. Like we filled out the appointment card and picked the date. He had tests run that he was supposed to get the results for, and they refused to see him. It was the most ridiculous experience. They told me to go to Medical Records and get the results myself, like my 26 years in technical support qualifies me to read medical results. Anyway, if you can avoid, do it. When he was released it took THREE DAYS to get his prescription written up correctly by the doctor. I am happy they saved his life, I am not happy with all the peripheral staff. Nurses good, surgeon great, regular doctors and staff MEH. Worse than MEH.

Her right leg below the knee and the remaining great toe were removed. She was having hallucinations, incredible confusion, and somewhat combative responses. Over the past 12 months, she has had a PIC line 6 times, obviously not killing the MRSA, hence the amputations. She continued to get worse the longer she was on this latest round. I kept saying the anabiotics seem to cause some actions not at all like her and she's kept saying her stomach hurt. So, Kaiser does a CT that says mile Alzheimer's, short term memory loss, but puts her on a med to treat schizophrenia, never notifying any family members, or did they just tell my psycho sister with short term memory loss. Like we are talking 42 phone calls, counted them, asking where she was how did she get there and why? 42 in 3 hours, but Kaiser ditches her, after only 2 rounds of physical therapy. We were told that she can't live alone again. She gets transferred to the Apple Valler Acute Care Center. They ask me if she had any mental issues. I said OCD and Bi-Polar. They ask about the schizophrenia. Mom & I were shocked & said never. I asked why. She said well the other evening, she saw puppies coming out of the walls. Last night, she was asking them why they couldn't see the blood running down the walls, and BHO & FJB gave her a bath, she said it was nothing sexual, but she knew it really happened. I was in shock, went in to see her and she went entirely ballistic, however she knows I signed the transfer paperwork. She looks at me and asks me to tell her the truth, did she have some sort of psychotiic breakdown because she thinks she is going insane, and she is terrified. Shortly thereafter, like Linda Blair in the Exocist, head spinning & green stuff coming out. She was vile. We had to leave as she kept trying to stand up. It is important to note, that She has not walked 26 days. The "Care Center" gave her 4 sessions of PT. All she can do is get to a standing position from the bed with a walker. She cannot even pivot, much less do a safe transfer. They have made her use a bed pan because she falls. I went home that night and Googled the antibiotic Vancomycin induced psychosis. It states that it can rarely cause neurotoxic effects including hallucinations, confusion and acute psychosis. Most commonly occurring in patients in kidney failure, where she is at stage 3. I called and asked them not to give her anymore, call the doctor. Mind you, they are contracted with Kaiser and have a Kaiser doctor assigned to them. They tell me they can't do this, the only way is to transfer her to St. Mary's in Apple Valley and they would transfer her to Kaiser in Fontana. Mom gets there and they have checked her into the ER. They take her back and do bloodwork, their diagnosis is that she had mild short term memory loss & get with her primary care doctor, and arranged for transport. I was flying up the Cajon Pass when I get a call from AMR. They were dispatching a transport call from St. Mary's to her home. Kaiser is supposed to provide a wheelchair & walker and take care of safety features. She is a retired 37-year Kaiser employee. She has nothing. The plan was to drop, literally drop her off at her home. I refuse the transfer & doing 85-90 mph, I fly into the ER after enough security checks I thought a body cavity check was needed. I had called Apple Valley Acute "Care Center" and ask if they have a transfer order. She innocently answered, "well, I do have a note not to accept her back at all tonight and tomorrow morning, I don't know why." I wonder why Kaiser and the "Care Center" don't want her, she's acting psychotic. Why the HELL do they not consider the source, when I ask them to please contact a doctor, she is having a rare but ENTIRELY possible psychotic reaction to her antibiotics... St. Mary's said she was safe to be released. Did I mention she has no prosthetic leg. She just had the stitches removed. Apparently, when they were told that we refused to accept her at home due to that not being a safe transfer. We asked for her to be sent to Kaiser. The "Care Center" apparently were forced to take her back. Heck, they sent everything she had with her and had checked her out. They had no intention of taking her back. I called the "Care CENTER" this morning. All of the staff were in a meeting, but they would call me back. I had an appointment I had to go to, so I said ok. After 4 hours... I thought maybe they would have been setting up things with Kaiser, etc. I call, nope, can't even get with anyone in upper management. I have taken the information to contact the state board. I will file this with Kaiser. I will post this everywhere I can. I called her Primary Care doctor just before 5 last evening. I was told someone on her "Care Team" would reach out by end of day today, which is in 3 minutes..

Kaiser Permanente has three medical facilities in the Victorville area, however, the nearest…read morefull-service Kaiser Hospitals are many miles away, with one in Palmdale (a 50 minute drive, but you don't have to go through any mountain ranges), one in Fontana (a 30 minute drive over the mountains, but it is the first Kaiser and thus it's an old hospital), and the best, the biggest, and the newest one which is in Ontario (a 40 minute drive over the mountains). So, for your most immediate medical needs, the Kaiser Permanente High Desert Urgent Care on Park Ave. in Victorville will have to suffice. The other two Kaiser Medical Centers, both about a 10-15 minute drive south into Hesperia, do not have an Urgent Care (one gives Covid vaccines and has a pharmacy and an optometrist, and the other medical center, just a few blocks east, is a mental health center, with no other offerings). So the Kaiser Permanente High Desert Urgent Care on Park, is the only game in town, unless you decide to go to the emergency room at Desert Valley Hospital, which takes everybody, regardless of insurance, or the lack of it . However, there are a few problems with this Urgent Care. 1). The line to get an appointment for it can be 40 or more people long. 2). Once you are assigned to a slot, the wait in the room can be many many hours. (the last time that I was here I arrived at noon and I wasn't released until 9PM.) 3). Unless you need an X-Ray or a simple prescription, both of which can be done here, it is likely that the doctor will just send you to another hospital's emergency room, just because Kaiser Permanente High Desert Urgent Care is so limited. So this place is Hit or Miss, at best.
