FOOD & DRINKS This restaurant offers a wild selection of some Japanese classics. Eel, fried chicken, pork cutlet, ramen and much more. The question is if the chef can actually pull that off? I can't say for sure because I was only able to order one dish. I wanted to order more to see for myself but I was already full after the first dish. With the eel I think its sourced from Germany or Europe. I doubt you can get fresh Japanese eel imported for that price. Japanese eel can be very expensive in Japan and is considered a delicacy. I am not so much into eel anyway so I tried the variant with chicken. The chicken was tender and soft which shouldn't be too hard since its dark meat. There is something about Japanese rice. It is sticky rice but you can still taste the individual grain. Really good rice and the sweet sauce complements the savory chicken very well. I am usually not a fan of nori but I didn't mind it too much in my dish. I think the only thing it was lacking is some pickled ginger. It would give the dish another flavor dimension. The miso soup actually had radish instead of soft tofu. Love it. SERVICE The staff is really nice and friendly. There is something very special and charming about Japanese waitresses. ATMOSPHERE Basic but clean. Just like you would find it in Japan. It is not suppose to make you stay for hours. You come to eat and leave after you have finished. For western standards its neither modern nor exciting. It is simple. RATING I actually really like this restaurant. The food was really good and the service undeniably charming but everything was simply to plain.

Absolutely addicting Japanese curry house slightly off the beaten path . They're only open for the lunch rush or evening dinner (no in between), so be sure to double check to avoid missing out! The fried chicken and curry is comfort food heaven. I've never had such flavorful Japanese curry, with subtle spice yet still light. Mixed with the pickled onions and crunchy peanuts, the dish tasted balanced and satisfying. Then the chicken - this was *perfectly* fried without a drop of oil. The plate itself comes with green tea, miso soup and white rice -- all of which are FREE REFILLS! What?? At under 10 Euros a plate, and for high-quality food, this made me super happy. Plus, the service is friendly and attentive - you won't be without a full cup of tea while you sit there.

After traveling around Switzerland for a week, it got to that point in the trip where we…read moredesperately needed Asian food. We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

Since it was lunch, it came with 2 free little salads and miso soup as well, and they gave us each a little bowl of strawberries for dessert. We also got free green tea. I was really blown away -- every bite was just a revelation, especially since I've been living in Freiburg for almost 3 years where it's impossible to get this kind of sushi at any price. I just got back from the restaurant and I can still taste the fatty tuna. I wish I were staying in Dusseldorf longer so I could go back every day. It is that good! Also, in contrast to what many others have written, the service was excellent. They even forgot to put my sake on the bill, so when I pointed it out, they charged me for a cheaper warm sake. I left the full amount on the table anyway but it was a very nice touch by them as well. I really could not expect any more from any restaurant. Amazing food at very reasonable prices (for the quality especially) and great service. I will miss Kikaku!

This place specializes in onomiyaki (Japanese pancakes) and some soba dishes. I came by for lunch…read moreand was surprised to find that the atmosphere was pretty bustling. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside is decorated with old Japanese newspapers on the walls, dark wood tables, lanterns, etc. To the food. The onomiyaki did not appeal to me because they're kinda covered in mayo, which is a deal breaker for me. I was also somewhat shocked at the prices - 16.50 EUR for a fried pancake seems like too much! I went with yaki soba noodles with pork for a more reasonable 10 EUR. I wish I liked the noodles more, but they were just alright. After I ate most of them, I could see pools of oil left over. I have a pretty high tolerance for oiliness (vs. my zero tolerance mayo policy!), but even this was pushing it. Plus, for a couple Euros more, you could go to Soba An across the street & eat perfect handmade soba. Even though the food was only OK, other factors added to the experience. The service was speedy & they brought an individual carafe of iced tap water (!!), miso soup, side salad, green tea and seasonings. Also, the presentation was thoughtful and I appreciated the little design details. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would, but instead I'll round up. In the end, I'd come back because it's a cool place and a nice addition to Dusseldorf's Japanese district.
