Kaffee 't hof is a bit of a hidden gem - there are no signs outside or on the window indicating that there might be a bar inside. But just go inside and see how very much there IS a bar inside. And what a bar it is. Live music almost every week, DJ's spinning real vinyl almost every week, the best value for money food served every night (from appr. 6-10 pm), a great crowd, very welcoming warm staff and an infamous omnipresent owner, Hayo.
Kaffee 't hof consists of two rooms. In the principal room there are a bar, a large table for regulars, about five or six dining tables and a DJ set. In the other room, there is a stage and there are about ten more dining tables that make way whenever there's live music.
The food is excellent and cheap. Expect to pay about € 9 for a dish of the day, tapas & snacks around € 5, mains from about € 9 - € 18. There are no desserts and usually, about a third of the menu is sold out. But hey, this is 't Hof. You'll be happy you stepped in anyway.
Hayo puts a lot of effort in his beer list. He may not have a lot, but what he has is pretty good stuff. Quite a few belgian trappists, German Weizen, etc.
't Hof has a bohemian, underground feel to it. Brown nicotined walls dating from before the smoking ban, loads of statues of Christ & Mary, a pretty non-standard music selection (sometimes you only vaguely recognize things like Johnny Cash and Tom Waits). When the weather allows it, there's usually a pretty impressive crowd drinking outside. Officially that's not really allowed, but hey, this is 't Hof. What do you expect. read more
