Best kept secret in Taos! There is an original Remington Bronze in the parking lot. A rare and beautiful site! The hotel is remodeling, however we were not bothered by the construction. Sheri the front desk clerk was a delight to work with. She found us a room where there was plenty of parking to unhitch a small trailer so we could go to town to eat. Sheri was sweet and helpful in recommending a few restaurants for dinner. The lobby is decorated with local art. There are several cases with jewelry from a local artist. I was very impressed with the prices. I looked at several pieces and bought a beautiful turquoise ring. I would have paid 3 x's the price if I had purchased the same ring on the square. No pressure to purchase, however, the gentleman was very patient with me while I decided between several pieces. The room we stayed in was very spacious, comfortable and very clean. The air conditioner worked well and the bed was comfortable. We did not hear outside noise. The towels were very good quality, not skimpy and small. Great room for a great price. We will definitely stay again. Thank you Sheri for making our stay great! We were given water and granola bars upon checking out. The morning staff was just as friendly. read more

NEVER EVER stay at Kachina Lodge. Booked thru Hotwire, arrived after midnight. Lodge dark/locked. Pressed buzzer/called night phone # 6 times from two different phones over a 30 minute period. Forced to SLEEP IN OUR CAR. Spoke to Sheryl in FIVE occasions over the next 3 days. Kept promising me the manager would call me back. Finally after 3 days call was returned. I called back the next day ... spoke to Sheryl AGAIN asking to have my fee returned. Manager NEVER RETURNED my call. Monies NEVER returned. I should charge KACHINA LODGE. Complaint filed with Hotwire. NEVER EVER stay at Kachina read more

The hotel is great! Great price! Great service! HOWEVER the bed was the absolute worse. I will have to recover from the sleep or non sleep for at least a week. Taos is a great place to visit. Toilet was super duper tiny toilet . And it rocked ..... but again we are thankful for being allowed to visit. Oh and there is a fire pit they allow you to use at your leisure!!! Awesome read more

Kachina Lodge - Loved the ceiling - Hotels Near Me - Taos, New Mexico

When in Taos stay at the iconic Kachina Lodge. We rolled into Taos for one night only and chose this historic lodge to call home because of it's close proximity to everything and the easy park and unload set up as only a classic motor lodge can provide. The Kachina is a road trippers dream. Upon entering the lobby to claim a room, I was welcomed by Sheri, a very kind and knowledgeable professional. She told me about the catacombs underneath the lodge that connect the Taos Pueblo with the town's plaza used a long time ago for trafficking. As a history buff I found this very fascinating. The lobby is like a mini-museum with relevant artifacts and paintings of the area. The energy is just great at this lodge. Our room was in the Santa Fe Casista with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains and a nice lawn area to picnic or watch the stars. Do have breakfast in the Thunderbird Cafe as the coffee is top notch and the food delicious. Our waitress (her name escapes me) was so kind and attentive providing insightful tips for travelers and ensuring we were well fed before another day of adventure. Looking forward to my next visit to Taos and the Kachina Lodge!!! read more

BED BUGS!!!!!! I am covered in bites from head to toe. But the bed bugs were just the icing on the cake. This place is disgusting! It is unsafe and unsanitary. Ice on the sidewalks, exposed wires on the dryer, stained carpet and sheets, smelly, dead roaches, TV that didn't work, toilet bowl brush on the carpet upon entering the ro read more

This place is so cute! There's even a little art gallery hall! It's also within walking distance of downtown, so that was a major plus. The owner greeted us quickly and kindly, and he gave us room 119, which has an awesome little story behind it The room itself is a corner spot, with two windows, a massive bathroom, and a little patio. And it was so clean! When we checked out, Sheryl, the director of sales, was so great. 10/10 will stay here again! read more

This motel is definitely making a comeback. The owners have done a tremendous job of rennovating the facilities. The rooms have had a substantial makeover. Comfy beds, new appliances, fresh linens, etc. It's obvious the love and care the owners have put into this place. The property was quiet and peaceful with a beautiful view of the mountains. It's very close to the plaza as well. I will always stay here when visiting Taos. You should too. read more

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis going on, and the fact the Kachina Lodge is undergoing some room renovation, my wife, dogs and I enjoyed our 3 day stay there. The Lodge has an old school motor lodge feel, the rooms are spacious and parking is plentiful and immediate to the rooms. The central courtyard is huge and gives an open space feeling and easy access for pets to relieve themselves. The coffee shop is closed due to COVID restrictions but Michael's and other eateries are within walking distance. Rooms are moderately priced and the lodge staff is friendly and helpful. read more

When I tell you they have bent over backwards for us in the name of customer service I mean it! I called the night before to inform the office that we would be arriving Saturday morning at 4am. They called me the following day to instruct me of who to contact when I get in and what room I'd be staying in. After 12 hours on the road we were ready to sleep. Miles promptly answered the phone and was at the room within minutes. Their rooms are extremely spacious and well stocked. A great value for your buck. Communication was the key to making this a fantastic stay. read more

Read before booking - unfortunately we made the mistake of booking a non refundable booking through a third party. We showed up at Kachina and immediately realized it looked NOTHING like the photos. It's dirty, falling apart and we felt unsafe. I wouldn't even feel comfortable taking my dog for to go potty outside at night at this place. The woman at the front desk was rude, said we had to come back and check in later (we arrived after the arrival time). We made the decision to cancel our stay because of the state of this place. The price tag is ridiculous. We had to leave Taos altogether because everything was booked. I tried to work with this property on some type of refund and they were non responsive. Don't make the same mistake we did, save your money, stay somewhere else in Taos on drive to Santa Fe. read more

This was a nice little surprise! Rooms were clean and historic. The staff up front was very accommodating. Even though the lounge was closed for covid, they provided water and snacks for all guests. They even gave us a room to allow us to park our truck and trailer next to the door. REALLY nice people. Would definitely stay here again! read more

Miles is the man! He stayed up late and waited for a frazzled and exhaused traveler coming in late! He even gave me snacks because he knew the state i was in and was very understanding about it. This is the 2nd time ive stayed here and love it. The rooms are a little older (ive been informed they are in upgrade mode) but have so much OG Taos charm and for around $100 a night you can't really beat it. Plus they have this really neat giant fire pit outside you can go and sit around at dusk and chat with other visitors watching the desert sunset...I highly highly recommend this place! read more

I really don't like writing negative reviews but I don't think it's fair to not tell the truth when our entire party was disappointed. Four of us, two locals and two out-of-towners, wanted to "support the locals." The food was mediocre at best. Eggs were not cooked to order, toast was cold (for 3 of us) and the bread itself bottom of the barrel. The potatoes tasted like they had been under the heat lamp for a very long time and were tasteless. Also, they were out of decaf at 8:30 in the morning. The sausage was just okay. An even though we liked our server, she said they have a policy of not splitting checks. There were 2 other tables so not having the time to do it. Just added to the overall dissatisfaction. We would not recommend it and won't be going back. read more

What did it look like before the rooms were "renovated?" And if the rooms were renovated did they tell the builder "We're going for a smoky, meth lab/crack den kind of place, circa 1972, where Milhouse's dad stayed after the divorce." Yeah its that bad and they're rude on top of it. A complete and utter epitome of a "shit hole." Tear it down and rebuild. read more

If I could give this place less than 1 rating I would. Upon registration, we were told there was a $25/night fee for our dog. We were unaware of this prior and was told by a front desk representative who checked us in that this information was on their website. We saw no signs posted in the lobby regarding this policy either. We did refer to the website and read through Terms and Conditions and saw no mention of the pet policy. When I called to speak to someone, I inquired if they could direct me to where this information is listed on the website. He was unable to locate it! I was advised by this front desk representative to email the manager regarding their pet policy and they would reply back with this so-called pet policy of theirs. I emailed them 3 times. 3 times with never a response back. Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful of my time. It's wrong to spring a charge upon a patron during registration. We wish we would've read the other negative reviews before booking here. This place isn't worth your time and definitely not your money. read more

Very disappointing. We read good reviews on the website that we used to book this hotel. Friendly welcome in a lobby full of Native American Art. So, we thought that we were good to go. Nope, the toilet in our room didn't work. The hotel clerk suggested that we use the bathroom in the lobby during our stay. Seriously?! We had to have our key re-programmed every time we tried to get into our room. The room looked clean, but on closer inspection, it was quite dirty. Gunk on all of the door knobs and light switches. I spilled water on the floor and when I wiped it up with a washcloth, it came up black. The floor was obviously filthy! The bathroom door was partially off its hinges and would not shut. We had to suffer with the room next door that played very loud music late into the night (after 12 am!) and again starting at 730 am. Why didn't we call the front desk? There was no one at the front desk between 10-8 am. When I attempted to explain the above to the owner, he kept saying, No no, that's not right. Needless to say, we will be staying somewhere else the next time we go to Taos. And, yes, we do return there several times a year. read more

The Kachina Lodge has been scalped. A few years ago it was a unique place with a Lodge vibe but the new owner (from India) is trying to make it into just another generic roadside motel. He has cut down the trees and uprooted all the decades old landscaping that made the place so natural, woodsy, and beautiful. It was the only place in town where Indians performed in the courtyard around a bonfire every night but now that and everything else that was special about the place is gone. Too bad it wasn't bought by someone who wanted to restore it to its former glory instead of trying to turn it into another chain motel. Fortunately the street that it is on is lined with interesting, historic hotels, there's one right across the street. read more

We just took a chance and were very pleased! Clean, roomy, quiet, with very friendly staff. The lodge has a new owner who is looking at the property and making needed updates. We will be glad to stay at the lodge next visit. read more

I had the worst experience at the Kachina Lodge this weekend. Not only did I get eaten up by nasty bed bugs from room 116 but when we tried calling the front desk, no answer. We went to the lobby, it was all locked up. It was just after midnight that I realized what was happening and there was no emergency number on the door, NO way to get ahold of anyone to help us! We tried staying there because we were vending at a craft fair being hosted in the Navajo Room. After spending the night in another hotel, we spoke to the front desk attendant and she said she couldn't issue us a refund until she had an exterminator confirm the existence of the bugs, this is despite the photos we took of the bugs, or the bites that I had on my back and arms. Also our booth space was in the corner next to a trash bin that was catching water leaking from the ceiling. I was told by several other people that there was more leaks throughout the property read more

We loved our stay at The Kachina Lodge. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Our hostess, Cheryl, told us how the lodge had recently been purchased by new owners and please excuse any disorder during renovations. Our room was very comfortable and well setup. One must is a stop at the coffee shop. Our fantastic waitress Zoe, was very attentive and served us a fantastic meal. When we head back to Taos, we will stay at The Kachina Lodge again. read more

My wife, our two dogs and myself stayed here for a couple days in March 2019. Our dogs were getting exceedingly anxious in our car as we arrived in Taos after a long drive from Colorado, and we needed to find a place to stay. Browsing online showed many places available, but they were all out of our price range. Thankfully, the Kachina lodge had a great price and allowed our crazy dogs to stay as well. The owner, mr. Pinder, told me and my wife about how he had purchased the hotel just a couple months prior and how the staff there was working on updating the facility after 15 years of decline. I enjoyed the calm atmosphere of the place, and while some things could be updated such as new carpets, that didn't detract from the great experience there. Much more personable staff than a motel 6 and more affordable than hotels across the street that were charging 4x as much. Our room was large and the bed looked brand new. We felt lucky to find this place. read more

This place gets one star because it was a building with a bed, which is what we needed. That building and bed may not be deserving of this star though. The best way I can describe this place is ew ew ew ew yuck. Right when we walked in my husband said "well this is a little murder-y". I couldn't take off my shoes because although I didn't see any bugs, the carpet just made me feel like there were bugs everywhere. The bathroom door was partially off the hinges and wouldn't close. Also couldn't get myself to get in the shower there because something about the towels gave me the Heebie-jeebies and I was hesitant to brush my teeth with the water. We stayed here only because it was cheap and we needed one night to go skiing. Bad idea. Won't do it again. read more

The front desk lady was so incredibly rude. Very curt and seemed angry at life. The bed was very comfortable, pillows way too puffy, you feel like you're sitting up in bed with just one, room smelled of mildew, which is surprising since this is the desert SW. The electrical plugs were way scary! Full of paint and old, old, old! Was afraid to charge my phone but I did anyway. There were old cobwebs in the main bathroom in the lobby and on the shades in our room. The coffee pot was gross, probably used the same rag they used to clean the toilets! The only good thing was the 1/2 off coupon from the cafe, if you bought a drink. The coupon should be a little more generous. The oatmeal was amazing and the traditional egg breakfast was as well. I'd give it one star if it weren't for the breakfast! Still couldn't believe how rude the check in lady was! read more

Stay here at your own risk. Dirty carpets, dim lighting, dead bugs everywhere, no stopper for the bath tub, a tiny icecube tray that made 12 1/2 inch cubes, outlets that sizzled when we tried to plug in the fan all for the low price of $199.00 Don't say we didn't warn you. read more

Wish I had read reviews. Dirty, unsafe heaters and electrical hookups. Did I say dirty yet? Bathroom smelled like pee, don't look under the bed disgusting. Ice everywhere. Water dripping in the main lobby and smelled moldy. Two stars because the heater worked, there was a tv and frig and the bed was comfortable enough. I didn't want to check to see if the covers were clean. read more

READ: agree with other reviews: unsafe; more on this at the end. This was one of four hotels/properties we booked for my families' Spring Break road trip. They were the ONLY one that refused to work with us due to cancellations and social distancing during COVID national crisis. Taos was essentially closed, no food, no shopping. Upon arrival, asked to cancel or work with us for a credit, all after booking.com also called them and they refused as well. Management was rude and blamed the owner for no refunds. The owner never responded to my calls when requested. In addition, when we stopped to view the property, there was absolutely no one staying there and we felt unsafe (see other reviews, I'm not the only one). read more

Can't comment on the rooms since I never got inside. Arrived last night in the rain and rang the night bell twice. No one answered. The parking lot was empty. I got back in the car and went to another hotel. I don't know If Kachina Lodge is actually currently open. read more

To start with, most of the reviews on here were made when the Kachina was run by the previous owners, it was bought in January 2019 and is now under new (and in my opinion much better) ownership/management. I have stayed in several hotels in Taos and this is now my favorite by far. The new owners are wonderful and went out of their way to make sure I had a great stay. The hotel is right down the road from the downtown area and if you are planning on going to the ski valley there is a shuttle that stops right outside to bring you up. The room I stayed in (154) was clean, very spacious for a hotel room, and surprisingly affordable for a room in Taos during ski season. I can't say enough good things about this hotel, I know I will be recommending it to anyone I meet in town looking for a great place to stay in the Taos area. read more

I booked this hotel through my travel rewards company, for a week ski trip in Taos. While driving from Texas to Taos, I was notified by Taos Ski Valley that they were closing due to coronavirus. I immediately called the hotel and my travel company to cancel the room. The stated policy, on my documentation, was a one-night penalty, and the balance would be refunded. That is what the first clerk confirmed when I called. I later called back and talked to a manager and owner who both outright lied -- saying that everything was fine in Taos, that I should drive on, and that they would not honor my cancellation or provide any refund. I continued to make my request for 3 days, and through my travel agency, all to no avail. While most company's in the world are trying to "do the right thing" for their customers, Kachina Lodge is lieing, deceiving, and stealing their customer's money. These people are unethical, untrustworthy, and deceptive. READ ALL THE REVIEWS -- Steer clear of Kachina Lodge in Taos, NM -- you will only be disappointed and cheated. read more
