I ordered a takeaway for my birthday and collected. There's a small car park round the side. Came to about £50. Nice food and service.

Acting as both neighbourhood takeaway and classy, indoor Indian restaurant, this family-owned…read moreeatery offers high quality Asian cuisine at remarkably reasonable prices. On my most recent visit, my family and I ate in and we all had a very pleasant dining experience. The waiter service is very efficient and the staff don't try to rush you out of your seat, as they may do in other independent restaurants. The Chicken Korma I ordered was mild and creamy, yet still flavourful and filling and the restaurant's menu offered a very impressive range of authentic Indian and Bengali dishes. Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the place was the odd, dark and dingy atmosphere inside. Low-level lighting combined with darkly coloured walls and furniture made it a tad difficult to read the menus and seemed to give off a sort of unappealing, backstreet vibe as opposed to a romantic ambience which could have easily been achieved with a little more light or colour.

It's also pretty reasonably priced and caters well for vegetarians, should you have any of those in your number. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent: Rice is served to you, for example, which feels, in the relatively recent history of British Curry, like a quaint touch as it's not something you see everywhere these days. I think that's what I like about this place the most - it hasn't changed all that much over the years. If you fancy a simple, well-cooked meal in cheerful surroundings then I recommend it. The music they play is pretty standard Indian background music that must be on a tape loop. One song sounds like a version of The Irish Rover by The Pogues, so listen out for that. I wonder if Shane MacGowan has eaten here?

Has a great menu with some excellent curries and some innovative 'fusion' dishes which present great taste combinations. Excellent fish curries, also a great crab chilli masala! Duck manchuri must be tried for a mix of sweetness and distinct flavours. Give them at least a days notice and they'll make a super Kurzi lamb - a whole leg marinated and slow cooked on the one. If you're planning on eating in, Saturday nights are probably best avoided, as Indus gets busy very quickly after 7pm, but on the occasions you are lucky enough to get a table, this Eastern wonder delivers fantastic customer service and very well-priced, great tasting food. Cobra and Kingfisher are served on draught and the waiters are all charming, relaxed and polite. Even if you're just using the restaurant's takeaway service, staff are always inviting upon collection and deliverymen always ensure your food is with you within 25 minutes of ordering. I would highly recommend the restaurant's luscious Tarka Dal. It's by far the best I've ever tasted.
