Kababish has a good name locally, which may or may not have been buoyed by an urban myth (admittedly, possibly true), that an NEC-performing Robbie Williams is a fan, even taking aptly-named Ginger Spice as a dining companion.
The recommendation of a sweaty singer from Stoke is alone enough to put me off in principle, but I cannot take the word of the grapevine, I have to let Kababish entertain me.
Perhaps it simply couldn't live up to the hype (which genuinely persists beyond the Williams rumour), but I wasn't particularly impressed. Admittedly, choosing between the several similar restaurants nearby may come down to matters of subjective taste, and this one simply did not tickle my fancy. And yet, while its menu strays far from the beaten track, the seemingly small portions and seating just that bit too close to other diners undermined the effect, at least for me personally. Vaguely casually-done service as the radio played near the counter didn't help.
But, as suggested, with something people seem to defend as fiercely as their curries, it may simply be that I don't get it. Given its busy Boldmere location, perhaps the biggest draw may be that it provides off-street parking. read more
