I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel other pet owners deserve to know about our experience…read more *Public communication seems to be the only way I can receive answers from this business. We were vacationing out of town and specifically chose this boarding facility because it was only 7 minutes from where we were staying. We wanted Sullivan close to us in case anything went wrong, and the staff knew that. They also knew this was his very first boarding experience, which made communication even more important to us. The booking process was disorganized, but because it was a holiday weekend, I chose to give them the benefit of the doubt. When I picked Sullivan up, I was told only that he had gotten scared, had an accident in his kennel the night before, and had been rinsed off. Once I got him into my car, I realized he still smelled strongly of feces and had feces caked on his paws. The smell was so overwhelming that I had to stop at a relative's house during our 4 1/2-hour drive home just to give him a proper bath before we could continue. After I left a review describing that experience, the owner publicly responded that Sullivan had actually been having difficulty using the restroom outside throughout his stay, had been given "frequent" baths, and had received extra potty breaks. This was the first time I had heard any of that information. At no point during his stay did anyone call or text to let me know he was struggling, despite the fact that we were only minutes away. Had someone simply communicated with us, we would have picked him up early or made whatever decisions were necessary for his well-being. As pet owners, I believe that if my dog is having repeated accidents, requiring multiple baths, or experiencing any unusual issues while boarding, I should be notified immediately. At the very least, I should receive a summary of those events at pickup. Instead, I learned about them only through the owner's public response to my review. Once we were home, we also discovered a wound on Sullivan's head. We documented it with photos every day. After he scratched it open, I contacted my veterinarian. Because of how much time had passed since the injury occurred, we were advised there was little that could be done to close it, and our focus shifted to preventing infection and allowing it to heal. To this day, I still do not know how the injury occurred. I reached out to the facility directly by email, asking simple questions: where Sullivan was housed, whether any incident had occurred, whether staff noticed the injury while he was there, and why we were never notified. After receiving no response, I sent a follow-up email. When someone finally responded, I was told my original email had gone to spam, that the facility does not communicate with clients by email, and that the owner was out of the country. I was also told they did not know when she would be returning. I explained that I wanted to keep communication in writing because of the seriousness of the situation and requested that another manager or staff member with access to Sullivan's records answer my questions. To date, I still have not received answers. What concerns me most is that there appeared to be no one available to address an active issue involving a dog that had been injured while in their care. Waiting an unknown amount of time for the owner to return from an out-of-country trip is not an acceptable response when a customer is seeking information about their pet's condition. Dogs can have accidents while boarding, and I understand that unexpected things happen. My disappointment is not because Sullivan had accidents. It is because of the complete lack of communication before, during, and after his stay. We chose this facility because we wanted him close to us in case he needed us, but we were never given the opportunity to help because we were never told anything was wrong. Our dogs depend on us to make decisions on their behalf. We can only do that when boarding facilities communicate honestly and promptly. Unfortunately, that did not happen here, and because of this experience, I cannot recommend this facility.
