By the way, they take Covid measures very seriously here which is a nice change from London. I ordered their classic Welsh Breakfast (I believe it is called "Meaty") and it came with an assortment of items like a classic English breakfast. All the items were very okay but I really liked the bacon though which had a bit of a fattiness to it and was pretty thick cut. I will say that that is probably the only thing on the plate with natural flavor so just be mindful of that so you can eat it with everything. Overall, not a bad meal in Cardiff and +1 for the cheap prices. I think I'm just not a huge English breakfast person but if you are, you will probably love this cute little place.

I also went there for an evening meal - I had lamb shank - again it was lovely - very succulent and had a nice glass (es) of wine too. The evening is less busy and the staff had more time to be friendly. Negatives: Breakfast time is very busy and I felt very cramped and rushed. I didn't feel relaxed and it got on my nerves. It's a little on the pricey side but hey this is Pontcanna - its the price you pay for trendy town. Overall - go there if you want a good evening meal and breakfast but expect it to be full and not as cheap as a greasy spoon in Canton.

Until recently this was the location of Town and Country, and I was somewhat upset to see it go…read more However a recent visit to Jaspers has certainly lessened the blow, and I can't deny that it is certainly an asset to Llandaff village. Jaspers is primarily a tea rooms, and whilst many of the cliental are in their senior years, they do get some young faces through door, after all afternoon tea has become awfully trendy! However they also serve light dishes, such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes, or just even just a piece of cake. Speaking of cakes Jaspers also has a cake ordering service, and I'm told they're delicious. Having been slightly spoilt with my previous afternoon tea experiences (quite a few London hotels, and the Pump Rooms in Bath) I was initially slightly disappointed with what Jaspers had to offer. Afternoon Tea here is quaint rather than fancy, however the sandwiches, cakes, and scones were all perfectly lovely and I found the portion sizes just right (other places seem to give far too much, and you inevitably end up leaving food). Also expect to pay considerably less here than you would at a London hotel. As of yet I haven't found anywhere else in Cardiff where a set afternoon tea is available (though there's bound to be somewhere), I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Jaspers. I imagine it would be particularly welcome to tourists visiting Llandaff Cathedral (which is practically on its doorstep). Finally the menu is bilingual which is certainly a nice touch.

Personally I do think is more for the older generation I mean that shouldn't put people off going as it is fairly quaint and like Sarah has pointed out Jaspers is in prime location for people who are visiting Llandaff Cathedral. As far as the younger generation are concerned I'm not convinced there will be a new fashion statement to visit a tea house yet by all means if you finds yourself in the Llandaff area take trip, you will be pleasantly surprised.

For such a prime position, one might have thought there would be little trouble in running a successful cafe, but it apparently hasn't worked out that way. The main problem was really that the shop was tired and needed an overhaul before any business would find money there. Finally, the job has been done and the cafe now goes under the name Bar Sicilia. It should be made clear though, this is not a bar, and neither is it an Italian restaurant (La Lupa is just across the street if that's what you're after). This is a cafe and sandwich bar that also happens to sell paninis, pasta and pizza. But don't feel fooled, this Italian influence is a good thing. Lunchtime has never been a good time for people who aren't fans of sandwiches, and this new cafe offers a wider and heartier selection of fast lunch food, while still giving you a good mouthful-to-pound ratio.

Thanks to its vibrant Italian colours, you really can't miss this place as you walk or drive down…read moreCowbridge Road East. Why it's called a bar, however, I'm not really sure. It's definitely more of a cafe, and it doesn't look like the most elegant of establishments, either - but it does do what it sets out to do: reasonably priced paninis, pasta and pizza. For anyone living or working in this part of the city, Bar Sicilia now offers an alternative to the endless pasties and sandwiches you can buy from most places along this street - and the food is always prepared quickly, so you can squeeze a sit-down visit into your lunch hour if you want. There are a couple of chairs on the pavement, but being on a busy main road and a key bus route it's not the most relaxing of spots! If you want a more refined experience of Italian cuisine, head over the road to the Italian Way or La Lupa.

Aaaaaaah. Tuck In…read more I spent way too much time in here. Mainly Sunday afternoons - if you're that in need of a big fry up then the chances of being awake before noon on a Sunday are slim! We tended to head there because it was open later than most places on a Sunday. And it was a chance for a feast! This is a proper British greasy spoon. Fry ups, loads of chips and all the basics, with the added bonus of some nice coffee. Just right I reckon. The portions are massive, the food is consistent and the service is swift. Not quite enough black pudding for my liking, but then there is never enough black pudding for my liking. And I do like my bacon a bit crispier - but it doesn't stop me eating it. However, be warned if you're intolerant or fussy - they don't really like changing orders and swapping things.

It's double…read morethe price of the greasy spoons on St Mary's Road and Wood Street by the station, but probably only pays half the rent and business rates... besides which, I think they own the premises, as they have got another version of Tuck In Cafe directly across the road... The full English breakfast is £4.50... about the price of a main meal at most of the take-aways on this stretch of road... Personally, if I'm going to eat a breakfast out, I'd rather cycle for another 5 minutes and go to the centre of town to the caffs by the station, and go and see the Fruit Man on Wood Street afterwards, to stock up on some great affordable fruit for next to nothing, to offset the damage I've done to my arteries! (Although there's a great fruit and veg shop just up the road from Tuck In Café... but this would leave me even more out of pocket!)
