    K Takata store in Kapaau.
    Fran C.

For a small mom & pop supermarket in a remote area of Kapaau..........I gotta say the prices for their goods at this little supermarket is pretty reasonable! I've been here only three times, and each time I came here, it was only for a quick snack, & a drink.......... It's been about 3 years since I've last stepped into this little supermarket, but as I return, it's nice to see that the store still looks good, and that the store still stocks an array of items for the community. When you live in a remote area like Kapaau, it nice to see a wonderful business like this around, serving the small local community, If they didn't have this store here............if I'm correct, the next closest supermarket to Kapaau, is probably 25+ miles away in Kamuela - (Foodland), Coming here is a breeze, as there is lots of free parking in the private parking lot, so parking is not an issue. Shop local, & support local business........if you're ever in Kapaau, stop by the K.Takata Store!

She kept shrieking "stop touching! I told you all to stop touching the fruit! I will grab for you!!". I rang up a couple mangos and lychee, and she added $3 to the charge. When I asked how she arrived the total, she tallied it up again and couldn't explain the difference. Then when she charged my card on the Square device, she forcibly added another $2?!?!? I asked her about and she said "credit card charge," with no further explanation. I'm not sure what type of fruit vendor expects any rational customer to not gently touch a piece of fruit. Avoid this place and find a nicer proprietor. She seemed irrational and rude to tourists. She was sneaky, and could be adding to other customers' bills erroneously. I'm guessing a lot of folks don't notice the difference.

What I appreciated was the farm to table concept, since they supply many restaurants along the Kona coast, with their plump, sweet, non slimy, or gritty tomatoes. Mike and Tricia have read and gained wisdom from the professionals on how you can adjust the sweetness of the tomatoes, which I was dumbfounded and never knew that you could tweak a tomato. This is a business that involves all of the ohana and is done so with passion and a commitment towards quality. Mike and Tricia have a heart to share their knowledge and wisdom with other farmers as well, to build them up and see them become fruitful. There is a push towards bringing the community together and truly getting to know your neighbors. They have gone out of their way to share what they have with others, those who can afford it and to those who have run into hard times. I wish everyone could try their tomatoes, then you'd know what I am talking about, and draw your own conclusion, to this heavenly fruit (I still consider it a vegetable, no matter what). I live on Oahu and so anytime I visit Kona, I make sure I stop at the local open market in Kamuela to buy these. When you go look for the Wow Farm sign and their red palaka shirts, strike up a conversation and enjoy buying some of these delicate treasures. Omg, if you're on Oahu you can get these at the local farmers market on certain day's. Tuesday's and Saturday's Kapiolani Community College Wednesday's at the Neal Blaisdell open market Thursday's at the Kailua open market Sunday's at the Mililani open market This is a great way of supporting local and small businesses! Seriously, it really inspires me to want to become a farmer!
