Don't get me wrong, the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. But WOW does poor service leave a bad taste in your mouth. The website states "late check-out is available upon request"... but DO NOT bother requesting. Because as the manager and other front desk agent said and I quote "absolutely no exceptions". Being that check out is at 10AM, an hour earlier compared to the other hotels in the area, I didn't think this would be this much of an issue. However, the amount of attitude and insolence that was received upon asking this question was downright uncalled for. I nicely asked and received a no. Knowing that nothing is for free in life, I even offered to pay a fee or a half-days-rate as I felt that would be fair... but was given a snippy "no" and essentially scolded. Having been educated and having years of experience in hospitality, I was utterly disgusted and ashamed by the treatment from the staff. I visit Oswego, NY frequently, as well as several friends. I'll be sure to make them aware of how they will be condescendingly treated upon choosing this establishment.

On my first visit I arrived tired and sweaty after a long day of orientation lectures at the college. I accidentally booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Owego, NY. The front desk clerk, Jessica was extremely helpful. She gave me the number to call for the Owego Holiday Inn and kept encouraging me to keep trying. After several calls back and forth between the hotel and Priceline ( who didn't want to let me switch locations or get my money back) I finally got a refund and was able to book the room in Oswego. I hadn't even realized I had booked through Priceline because they used a different name. Next time I will book only through the hotel directly. She was personable and very helpful in all regards. When I finally got to my room it was spotless, had a great design and the bed was so comfortable!! Kudos to the room designer. There are so many intuitive details that make the room comfortable. One is the hooks on the wall to hang coats, bathing suits or whatever else. Often sorely lacking in hotel rooms. Other nice details include the modern lighting, walk-in shower and usb charging ports. The pool is clean and hot-tub are both clean and very nice. Breakfast is included and most things are available at the front desk. This time we forgot a corkscrew for our wine. They let us borrow one from the front desk. Jessica was great about getting us a good rate for our second stay for parent's weekend. We had a goody bag with snacks etc. waiting for us when we checked in. My 12 year old appreciated that. We've already booked for Harbor Fest.

I've stayed in some rather nice places in New York City, and I've stayed in some serious dumps before that only charged me about $80 a night for a room, and this place falls somewhere in the middle. I think the room cost me around $140 for a king size bed, and honestly for that money I feel that I had a very nice stay. Okay the bed wasn't fantastic, but everybody that says a bed was uncomfortable at a hotel is usually comparing it to the bed they have at home and there's not a hotel out there that's going to match it perfectly. The bed here was a little firm had it been a mattress I were trying out I would not have purchased it but it served its purpose very well. I fell asleep on it, I woke up and I was refreshed . There's a little refrigerator in the room, there were plastic cups individually wrapped in the bathroom which is to be expected on a little bit lower end hotel however I actually prefer this. I don't know when the last time that glassware was washed that's typically in the nicer places, the fact that I get to unwrap a fresh cup? I'll take it. I mean it holds water and I drink from it, that's all I'm really expecting out of my cup The view was kind of crappy because all I could see was the street out front but that's my fault, I could have paid a couple extra bucks to take a look at the river, however I wasn't there to stare out the window. I was there to fall asleep. Air conditioning worked splendidly, I didn't hear any excessive noise out in the hallway, the Continental breakfast in the morning was about what I expected... Nothing fancy or special about it just a couple of waffle makers, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, muffins danishes pastries and the typical semi weak hotel coffee... So yeah about what I expected. I would also like to add that there was a nice older lady who was working the breakfast area trying to keep it stocked and I'm guessing somebody in the back cooking, and between the two they did pretty well. We had the opportunity to talk with her a little bit after we were done eating as it was 9:00 a.m. and breakfast was over, and we of course threw a few dollars in the little tip jar she had sitting there because honestly she was doing very well and it's been my experience that in general people suck. After a morning of grumpy people waking up coming down and trashing her breakfast area she still had a smile on her face. The lady working the front desk when we checked in and a different girl when we checked out were both pleasant. They both had a smile on their face and we're more than willing to help with anything else we might have needed. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. I mean like I said, everything about this hotel was pretty much what I was expecting for the price that I paid and the name on the front of the building. If you want better accommodations you're going to have to open up your wallet a little bit wider and book something somewhere else... For the money I paid for this everything was spot on.

I was told that I could pay with cash, and I was able to pay with cash last time around, and yet when I went to check in I was told that I wouldn't be able to check in as I didn't have enough on my card even though I had enough in cash (they claimed that it was against procedure). It doesn't make any sense to me, and it makes even less sense typing it out. I had to find a different hotel in the pouring rain. These people may have lost a customer as I don't know if I'll go back to the Clarion after this.

After looking at their website I called and canceled it 15 minutes later. All my friends in Oswego said do not stay there. It's like staying at the Bates Motel I had booked insurance on both the rooms. They claimed I only had insurance on one room, which is a complete scam so they did not refund the entire amount / when I called the man who answered said he was the owner of the hotel. He looked it up. He said I got my refund that I wasn't charged for it. He asked my credit card number and then told me he has no information in there with that number on it. When I explained everything to him, he told me he was too busy. He can't deal with it and that I got my refund. He said he could not talk to me, he was too busy and that's the end of it. When I tried to argue with him, he said ma'am I am busy I can't do this. You got your refund you weren't charged for it and that's it, boom and he hung up on me. By the way, I did tell him about the 30% and that I didn't get the full refund and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about the cancellation protection for one account not two the total that I'm missing is $117. These are the biggest scam artists with a very low quality hotel. I called my credit card company. They said they will deal with it, but I wanted to warn everybody. Do not stay here run run run. These people are crooks. I really wish I was not forced to give this hotel at least one star because it would've got zero stars.

Our room was filled with so much charm, it just drew you in, especially a four poster grandma's feather bed with a hand knit topper. The home was filled with thousands of nick-hacks, from their travels and antiquing. One of the most memorable pieces was a ten foot tall mirror they retrieved from on top of a mantle in a mansion. Really, how tall was that ceiling, I wondered. I took in each and every item, none of which had an iota of dust on it. After our first stay there, we had to stay again. One day, no one else was home and my curiosity got the best of me and I had to peek into the other rooms. One room was undone, another had similar decor as ours and the other had an Asian theme. Our four claw bathtub was just delightful to luxuriate in. My fantasy life came alive. The toilet had a pull-chain on top and the light above the sink was sufficient for the room. Ellen, the owner, cooked breakfast and served scones, grilled grapefruit and eggs. It was absolutely delicious. I just wanted to believe an old aunt owned this home and was putting it in her will for me. It was so cozy and lovable. My honey and I wanted to stay forever, alas it was time for reality and we were gone. I would gladly stay again.
