Carriage House Inn Bed & Breakfast - The Eagle Island Room is a peaceful place to rest

There is always coffee available in the dining room (courtesy of the Keurig machine), and in the afternoon/evening, there are fresh cookies! This charming B&B only has 4 rooms, so you'll never be overrun with people. You're very close to the old lighthouse and the water, as well as the 'downtown' area of restaurants, bars, ice cream, etc. The rooms are a bit small (especially the bathroom), as that was the way rooms were built in the 1800s, but our room served its purpose of giving us a close location while visiting family. **If you are not from New York (or a small-ish town?), you must know this information!!! In small towns like Sodus, the fire department is all volunteers. When someone calls for them, to alert all the volunteers that they are needed, they set off a crazy loud air siren!! I'm all for nostalgia and quaintness of years past, but come one people, everyone has a cell phone. Call those volunteers! When the first (of 3) sirens went off at 11:00pm, Jim G and I didn't know what to think! Was Canada finally sick of our bs and coming to invade? Was the nuclear power plant not too far away melting down? Was a tornado a-comin'? No one was leaving their homes or driving off in a panic, so we tried to ignore it and sleep. Then another one a bit later. Then the final one at 4:00am! Our fellow travelers found our fear hilarious at breakfast! We can laugh about it now, but seriously, catch up with the technology, lol! Thanks, Jerry and Claudine!

Really intimate surroundings with only four rooms so you could have chats in the morning. West coast warning: if the fire dept needs to be called a loud siren goes off and it is super loud, especially when asleep. We found this out in the morning. I thought for a second we were being invaded by Canada! Lol.

We drive from Massachusetts to Michigan a few times a year. This has been our go to half way stop…read moresince it opened. I have always felt safe even when traveling alone. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. This last visit was no exception. The one thing we noticed is how tired and worn the place looks. So many surfaces were chipped or marred. Carpets especially in the hallway were dingy and stained. I even noticed a picture framed chipped and garbage cans missing paint. Just a lot of little things that added up. The elevators move at a glacial pace. We didn't do our regular trip last year so it's been almost two years since my last visit. Del Lago has been very good to me over the years in terms of room rates. No more offers of champagne when you check in. That was a nice touch at the time

I can only speak on middle of the day on weekdays, but this place is a hidden gem…read more There are a ton of table games. (Only about half open when i'm there and it's still a lot.) The table games are generally pretty full. I can not imagine what it's like on the weekends when all the tables are open. The table game's minimums start at 5, 10, 25, 50 depending on which game it is. The slots are plenty. Hundreds of all kinds. I don't play a lot of slots, but when i have, i've won here. Only $20 - 60, but a win is a win. If you are intimidated by the tables, they have automatic craps and roulette games. The roulette is pretty dated and could really should be updated. Mostly because the interface is kinda a pain, but it still works. The staff is super friendly and are happy to answer any dumb questions i have. Customer service is top notch. The cleaning crew is really on top of things. The main floor, bathrooms, dining areas are all spotless. The thing that really stands out about this place is that the people seem happy. They call each other by their names. They joke and laugh. This is not the atmosphere that I usually see at the other NY casinos.

Quaint and charming, yes but also spacious and luxurious at the same time. The common areas are beautiful and huge. The front room has two fireplaces (one at each end). Perfect for sitting and relaxing with a coffee or tea if you happen to be there in the fall or winter. The rooms are spacious as well. But what really sets the place apart is the friendly and accommodating atmosphere provide by owners Joe and Kathy and THE FOOD! This is no basic eggs, bacon and pancake place in the morning. Breakfast usually consist of 3 to 4 courses, everyone of which is a delight to all the senses. Some of my favorites are the candied bacon, ham & cheese sliders and the pan-shake (a pancake and syrup flavored milkshake made with real pancakes, syrup, ice cream and milk)...YUM. You will not be disappointed. Jim

We stayed in Watkins Glen on our last trip decided to stay in Geneva this time and were lucky enough to have stumbled across this gem. We found the Chapman House via the Finger Lakes B&B association website and having reached out the same day we needed somewhere to stay, it was relieving to get such a quick email response. The house built in the 1800's is beautifully maintained with the original woodwork and moldings. Our room was beautiful and we felt like we had taken a trip back through time (except for the air conditioning of course!) It's also in walking distance from the main strip of restaurants and bars, which makes it easy to get around. Steve and Julie are wonderful!! And they go above and beyond when it comes to serving breakfast. Where most B&B's provide you with fruit and toast, they made a fantastic spinach and ricotta quiche which we ate on the front porch outside. I highly recommend staying at the Chapman House, we will be back!

The other is a really small TV screen which is quite difficult to watch but I suppose you're not going to watch TV. All in all, an easy five stars. Thanks for your hospitality, guys. We'll be back. NB. Only 3 rooms so book early.
