Mike is an unbelievable dog trainer and sanity saver! When I first moved to SC, I was excited to walk my dogs (a 3 year old and a 2 year old American Eskimo Dog (Miniature)) in my new neighborhood. Boy did that change. There were so many distractions here (golf carts, delivery trucks, mail delivery, squirrels, rabbits, other dogs, etc.) and Zoe lunged and barked at every distraction. When she couldn't get to the distraction, she would turn and lunge after Taz. Walks became a frustrating, embarrassing, dreaded chore. During one walk, Zoe lunged after a distraction and then turned on Taz; only I was in the middle of the two and ended up getting nipped in the knee. That was my "last straw" moment. I made my way home, immediately began searching for dog trainers, and found Mike. During our consultation, I told Mike how frustrating our walks were, how Zoe would tear up shoestrings, steal things and tear them up later, and how Zoe and Taz barked at everything and everyone in the cul-de-sac. Mike talked to me about their behaviors, my behavior, and how to make positive changes to both. He gave me a distraction list to work on between our training sessions and the girls and I practiced every day. There was progress just from the consultation. Thanks to Mike and his patience in working with me on training Zoe and Taz, our walks are now a pleasant outing where neighbors, family, and strangers compliment me on how well behaved my dogs are. He even worked on my older dog who was starting to pick up the puppy's bad habits. I was late getting her training because of the coronavirus, so she was older than most. We adopted Blade in November of 2020 when he was ten weeks old. Our goal was to make him the happiest dog he could be, and we knew that included training for us as well as our pup. Unfortunately, classes were unsuccessful. Blade has lots of energy, is very intelligent and, by the time we finally found Mike, he was fifteen months, 85 pounds and becoming more difficult to handle. The fist time I went to mike yelp never existed. I was just cruising yelp thought of mike Kelly looked him up, and was a bit surprised to see only one review. This might Be my 3rd or 4th review ever I never review anything so that should say something Anyway: MIKE IS THE REAL DEAL!! he showed me and my wife the correct way to train our shepherd "Harper" after 8 1hr lessons I'm not only able to heel my dog properly on leash but also off leash We did however get lazy after about a yr (You NEED to be CONSISTENT) so I called Mike and he got us in that same week and did a few refresher sessions and he only charged us half price. I would've gladly paid Full price! He was so good, when we got harpers sister "Anya" 6 yrs later we went straight to mike again for a few more refresher sessions and she is not as good as Harper but I can honestly say I'd put her up against any dog in my town when it comes to obedience!! Lastly I'll say this mikes method is simply this: the dog doesn't/shouldn't work for food (treats) the dog works for YOU! He is not going to teach your dog how to Give paw, roll over or any nonsense like that You can do those things yourself He teaches you how to train your dog to always be obedient to the owner things like heeling, placing, go to his bed, down the dog in mid run I can throw a frisbee a 100 yards and when my dogs are only half way to it I can down then in mid gallop! I then free them until they get the toy (again at least 100-150 yards away and down both of them again and they will never break the down. How many dogs do you know can do that?? Mike Kelly is a miracle worker. We are currently in training with our English Mastiff. He is the fifth dog that we have taken to Mike for training. We didn't get the puppy until he was five months old and he was quite fearful and aggressive when he arrived. He was also extremely stubborn and completely uncooperative during his first lesson. I feared that because we didn't start his training when he was younger that it would be next to impossible to get him to heel, stay, down, etc. By the end of our first lesson he was walking on a leash and heeling. I am amazed at the progress that he has made and there is no way that this would have been possible without Mike. He loves dogs and knows dogs as well as anyone could. Fortunately, we don't live terribly far from Mike's kennel but if we were 100 miles away, it would be worth the trip. I have a 13 month old shepherd that had been allowed to run our house for months! She has had aggression issues with people and our other pets. I was not sure what we were going to do with her.
