Baked cheesecake (sold by weight, this piece $5.50)

What Kurtosh does completely differently to other cake and coffee joints is extremely brave - they hold back on sugar and butter. And they bloodywell pull it off in the baked cheesecake I am sampling today. Less sugar allows the nuttyness & caramelness to shine, from the thin biscuit base to the browned top. The cream cheese is the hero here. It also means I can eat more - not sure if that's such a good thing ;-) The coffee is where they are let down. More crema needed in the day and age of quad ristrettos and single origin depth. 4/5 on the way to 5.

Love this place, especially for dessert after dinner out at one of the many restaurants along Willoughby Road, partially due to the great atmosphere. My favourite is the nutella chimney cake ($9.50), best shared with your other half, plus they do good tea in funky little tea pots. The only let down is the wait in the evenings for your chimney cake (if it's busy, around 15 minutes). One night they were close to closing (at 10pm), and took our order but said it would be take-away, including the drinks. As I then finished my tea before our chimney cake was ready, would have been good to not have it take-away style! They could also benefit from a few more seats (it's a tad empty), although I usually manage to find one.

Love this little buzzing bakery. They cut delicious cakes as per the weight or size you want. What's more, the Kürtosh is divine! It's fresh hand-made just in front of you, it's crispy, soft and comes in a variety of toppings. The more traditional cinnamon kurtosh was rolled in sugar and cinnamon. I think I enjoy unravelling them more than eating them, but they're fun and something different. Worth a visit during a lazy Sunday afternoon.

    baked raspberry/cookies and creme cheesecake

My bf brought back some cakes for me to try. I tried the baked raspberry cheesecake and the cookies and creme cheesecake. The baked raspberry cheesecake was my favourite of the two as it was super creamy and tasted lighter than a New York cheesecake. I also like the crumbly shortbread-like base and the bursts of tartness from the raspberries. The cookies and creme was alright but I thought the texture and flavour was a bit strange. It had a generous amount of cookie pieces though!

Really friendly staff and custom cakes made in 48 hours. All cakes are sold by the kilo.

Cafe is really busy and open until late. We went there around 9 in the night, but still had queued for bread. However the waiter served bread very fast. We didn't wait too long to get all order. The bread is amazing, toasted on spot. Crunchy outside, but soft inside. Beautiful with coffee.

The kurtosh's have a little too much glaze on the outside and they are a little overpriced. Other than that i highly recommend, their cakes that you order by weight are delish too!

I do not understand how this has not been reviewed yet. An awesome place to sit and relax with a coffee and cake - or you can try their namesake Kurtosh which is a type of spiralled doughnut.

    Delicious and sweet

The little engine that could!…read more And this place is little. Constructed on the far left hand corner at the bottom of the escalators at Chatswood Interchange, it's difficult to miss as you can see the steam rising from Barista magic at work. It's busy, in a worker bee sense. People come and go clutching coffee, whilst 3 artisans work their craft. I rolled in here with my two elderly companions on Wednesday post lunch, and we were drawn to the little padded seats at the back, which also opens through to the other side. Ordering, then taking a seat, our talking point became the shelves in front of us with coffee and train paraphernalia. I grabbed the HONY book on display and attempted to explain the concept to the ex-journalist at my right. The book (from 2010) unfortunately contains only the images and captions, not the stories that we have all seen on Facebook, but I think she got what I meant. Soon after, the coffees arrived. Soy Latte. Flat White. Cappuccino. Our cappuccino drinker said the flavour was lovely but she wanted it "hotter". The flat white drinker remarked in earnest tones that it was wonderful. I just drank mine and smiled. Yes it was damn good. One of the best Soy Latte's I've had. No bitterness. A smooth, flavourful brew with some complexity to delight my tastebuds. Isn't "winning your loyalty" an interesting concept. When I stroll through Chatswood next I would find myself hard pressed to try another coffee place, and there are many... If I did try another coffee place, I'd feel like I was cheating on TSE. That's what winning your loyalty is all about.

Thank you Chatswood for finally bringing it in the cafe department…read more I came here after a friend posted a picture of the food on Instagram (making this the most hipster cafe find I have ever made) - I had never heard of this place and thanks to the old yelp bookmark I had it parked for my next cafe emergency when I was in the area. I think that this place does all the things necessary to be a good cafe- funky interior, great tasting and interesting food, and not just good coffee- but a rotating bean menu. I had the fresh fig and ricotta on toast which was simply delightful. The combo of figs, ricotta, honey, walnuts and mint was a definite winner. And all the rest of the food I saw looked just as tasty. Brilliant coffee too- I just had the house bean (can't remember what it was) but it was great. Well done elbow room- you just found a special place in my heart

To add the cherry on the coffee heaven, the food here is fantastic. Now the menus is limited but both my friend and I were ecstatic about our meals. I got the French toast and it was divine. It is a small kitchen, so if it crowded you might have to wait a bit. But that should be expected with any small cafe. What completely won it for me was the friendliness of the staff. A small error was made in my order (which was my fault) and they lady could not be more helpful. I will definitely come here again.
