Roslund - Kesäisin kauppahallin pisteen lisäksi ulkona, omalla terassilla varustettuna. Suosittelen!

When I saw this meat shop and restaurant in the market hall it felt as if this would be the place…read moreto find a good burger in Helsinki. How can one go wrong when they reportedly sell some of the better beat in town and they have nice sign stating that the burgers are prepared medium rare or medium and you have to specifically ask for well done and they do not recommend it. Sounds like my type of place :-) We opted for one double cheese burger and a single Roslund burger with a side of fries and a side of salad. The burgers are not cheap, a single burger is €13, double €17 and the sides are €3 each. We ordered, specified medium rare and got a little number sign and they said they would call the number when it is done. We sat down upstairs, very nice seating area with views towards the water. After a while I noticed they were calling lots of stuff in Finnish from downstairs, we ordered in English and my estimate would be that most of the guests were also not Finnish and despite that the staff refused to call the numbers in English. Just louder and louder in Finnish. Luckily I had a low number so I actually recalled what it was in Finnish but otherwise it would have been endless running up and down the stairs to check what they actually were calling. After a long wait the burgers finally came. They really looked nice and I for a while thought they would be worth the price but what a disappointment. The burger was totally flavorless, no spices at all, meat also tasted like nothing. Despite us ordering medium rare and them stating they do no do well done both burgers were well done. Since we waited 30 minutes already we just did not have the energy to send the, back. A friend who showed a bit later also got his burger well done (had not specified anything) and he had also seen the chef (open kitchen) drop a burger on the floor and take it up and send out to be served. Not impressive at all. The side salad was uninspiring, actually only a green salad so nothing special at all. The fries were nicely crispy but so much salt on them so not possible to eat. The space is nice but will not go here again, as the food is bad, service slow and prices high. It if would have been a bit cheaper it could have deserved a 2 star rating but considering the price this is just way too bad.

When one is visiting another country and one bitches because someone in that country won't speak ones language, one sounds foolish and entitled. I also don't believe for a hot second that they would drop a burger on the floor and serve it. Finland has one of the strictest restaurant and food handling codes and I sincerely doubt that with their open-kitchen situation they'd risk it. I think that's a lie. So now we have an entitled liar giving scathing reviews. Surprise! All that aside, I'm a vegetarian and I still give 5 stars to Roslund. My husband loves high-quality meat (that sounds all kinds of open to interpretation). These guys are meat experts (woot!) so I spend a bit of time there inquiring about various types of meat (I am beginning to enjoy this). Just tell them what you plan to do with the meat (haha), how much you're looking to spend on the meat (ahem), and they'll give you the perfect cut, at the right price point (please don't be cheap when it comes to meat), and provide tips and pointers on prep and cooking. They're always spot-on, according to Meat Man. Good people, great meat selection, best burgers in Helsinki (I think I heard that from the meat-eater in the house), and a great place to take visitors from out of town for huge juicy burgers. And all this from someone who won't touch dead meat. Damn. They must be good. **Note to foreigners, tourists, and/or non-native speakers residing in a Finnish-speaking country (better known as Finland): They're Finnish (surprise!). They speak mostly Finnish. Most Finns speak English well. These guys and gals are the same but it's touch and go. Just like in the US. Where most people speak just one language: English. So when you write a review about how wonderful Roslund is, I suggest you give props to people who have taken the time to learn to speak to you in YOUR native tongue.

Know what's awesome when you're in a new place and off by 10 hours?....A 24 hour market!…read more Located in the basement of a large building just down from the Ruoholahti metro station, this place was an absolute Mecca for us at 5 am when our kids had already been up for 2 hours! The place is set up like a Fred Meyer or Super Target in the states - they've got a full grocery store and a pretty solid department store as well. Many do the K-markets in the metro stations are smallish, but this one is BIG! The beverage, produce, meats, cheeses and pastry sections were all very large. Word to the wise - you can't buy any beer until after 9 am. The selection was as good as anything we've got back home and was great to be able to hit up any time of day! The prices were fair and everyone was very nice! We found out we needed to weigh fruits, veggies and pastries and you should too! It'll make the check out process a lot quicker . They've even got carts with kid cars attached - a popular thing to fight over for our guys! All in all, it's hard to beat a place like this when you come to visit from far away!

City Market being the closest thing to a Target we have in Helsinki, I don't have much choice but…read moreto try and be enthusiastic about it. City Market has a good selection of cosmetics and their Lumene products are priced reasonably compared to Sokos and Stockmann. They have a good selection of health and eco foods as well as a good line of generic vitamins under their own brand that are very affordable and just as good as the pricier versions at the apteekis. They have a decent selection of rain boots if you're in a jam or looking for an inexpensive pair for summer cottage or other non-fashion purposes. The baby selection at this location is abysmal but they have better prices on children's books in both English and Finnish than the Stockmann bookstore or the other bookstore on corner of Aleksi. Good toy selection, too. The location is hopping day and night: avoid going during work hours or the evening or you will be stuck in line until you want to pull out your hair and poke out your eyeballs. Upside: groceries and home goods in one store, parking garage directly adjacent to the store, good location, easy access to several restaurants/cafes on the floor above...and you WILL be hungry after spending hours ambling around City K.
