I just got married on Friday, but I had to post a review, I can't wait!…read more I had talked to a few photographers, and even met 2, but I didn't feel like I got along well with them, or their style just wasn't what I liked. Until I met Hana. I looked at Hana's website multiple times before meeting her in person, and I loved the photos she posted. Not only is she a talented photographer, but she is sweet, funny, genuine, professional and just a fantastic person. My husband and I talked to her like we had known her for years. She told us about her family, her husband, kids, and even her own wedding day. In the months prior to the wedding, Hana researched our wedding venue, Sunnyside Conservatory, which she had never been to before, found several great photo opportunities, and even texted me and told me how excited she was to photograph our big day. On my wedding day, like any bride, I was nervous beyond belief. Several things went wrong, and lots of pretty important things were forgotten, I was a wreck. Hana and Stacy arrived, and told me to get into my wedding dress so they could photograph me before the ceremony. I calmed down a lot after the first few minutes they were taking pictures, they're just so relaxing and calming. They found a little park behind the Conservatory and took lots and lots of pictures, the lighting was just right. My parents were 30 minutes late, so I was swept away again for more photos. During the ceremony, Hana and Stacy stayed in the background, never got in the way, I never even saw them. Several guests said that they were impressed at how Hana and Stacy were climbing in trees to get just the right angle for photos. The reception started, and my new husband and I took photos together, then we took photos of the whole family, and all of the guests (only 20 guests). A few hours after the reception, I checked my email, and Hana had already sent me photos! She said she was so excited and just had to rush home and start editing. I could tell that this was her passion and she is just so incredibly good at what she does. Stacy is amazing as well, they both directed me on how to stand, where to put my hands, where to look, etc, but in a very non-bossy way. I could never ever begin to describe how happy I am with the few photos I have already. They're just amazing. There's no way that lady in the pictures is me, they must have pixie dust in their camera lenses or something. I can't wait to see the rest of the photos, the suspense is killing me!

Terry presents the elements of composition not only from the more predictable attention to depth of field and such but, from a more technical, scientific side of what makes a image more appealing. He presents how old master artists used mathematics Golden Ratio to construct their paintings and then shows you how you can apply these same principles to improve your photographs. Although it is a different class, you still get the same Terry. He is engaged, patient, attentive and makes the class light and fun. He encourages questions and does not bog you down with photography jargon that you might not even know. You can't go wrong with Terry!

I was slightly skeptical when Terry mentioned he would be going through some of the more fundamental topics of how to use your DSLR but was pleasantly surprised when I found that I had a lot to take away from the course. The class itself was a smaller setting which was really nice. It took place at Terry's Image Light Photography Studio. It ended up being one other person and myself making the class more engaging and interactive. Terry went through the class at a comfortable pace, made it interactive by having us use our cameras during specific topics to reinforce learnings and happily answered the numerous questions I threw at him. Overall, it was a great foundational course for those just getting into photography or for those needing a refresher (like myself). I plan to take his Exposure class in the near future.

Sadly, we were not a "camera happy" family, so I'm left with few pictures and memories. Seven years later my father was laid to rest. He was a very private and humble man. The grief of losing my sister & mom added to his privacy with a final request that only the immediate family attend his funeral. This goes against Guamanian customs and knew it would cause concern for extended family on the island. We agreed to respect his final request along with no Celebration of Life. Arrangements were made to have Michael video the service so we could share it with extended family for their closure and remembrance. Our father received Military honors (for 20 years of service with the Navy) and was laid to rest at Golden Gate National Cemetery. Michael positioned his equipment perfectly to film the entire family, provide sound for the Chaplin, Taps, folding/presentation of the flag and 3-volley salute. Special pictures of our family, old pictures of gatherings with our father's siblings over the years and career achievements were incorporated into the video with instrumental background music. To say the least, MJVP did an incredible job memorializing and honoring our father. Michael's knowledge and keen eye produced a gift that will span the balance of my lifetime and generations to come. No words can express my deepest appreciation of the gift Michael has created for our family. I only wish we would have done the same for my mother & sister.
