This is very out of character for me, but I feel like I need to share our experience with Express…read moreFloors.
We had Express Floors install the flooring in our kitchen after a water leak. We had used them once before without any problems, and I always try to support small businesses when I can. At the time, they were located in Louisburg, but they now operate out of Nashville.
The floors were installed while we were out of town. Before the installation, we pointed out a spot in the subfloor that concerned us because of the water damage. Adam, the owner, assured us it was normal and told us not to worry because the flooring came with a 10-year warranty. We trusted what we were told.
About 2.5 years later we started having problems. One of the tiles slid away from the wall, and Adam came out to repair it. During that visit, he told my husband that his weight was part of the problem. Honestly, that comment was unnecessary and insulting. Adam also blamed the construction of our mobile home and at one point claimed the flooring was already past the 10-year warranty. I eventually pulled out our original receipt, which showed when the flooring was purchased.
Since January, we have been trying to get the current problems resolved. The LVP is cracking along the joints, and we thought we were finally making progress. My husband called, I went to pick out samples, and we believed we were working toward a solution.
Instead, Adam is refusing to help us with the replacement flooring, claiming we didn't pay the $80 bill for the previous repair. I had never received that bill until after the most recent phone conversation.
When my husband tried to talk to Adam about everything, the conversation became heated. My husband got frustrated and called Adam a "colorful liar." Adam started pressing buttons on the phone and hung up on him. When my husband called back, Adam had his assistant answer his cell phone instead of speaking with him directly.
We have also been told that the company responsible for honoring the flooring warranty went bankrupt. I understand that this may complicate things, but we have still tried to work with Express Floors to find a reasonable solution.
I've offered to pay the labor costs, pay half the cost of the flooring, and even purchase the flooring myself and arrange for someone else to install it. I'm not expecting everything to be handed to me for free, and thankfully, I can afford to get the floor repaired. That's not really the point anymore.
The frustrating part is how we've been treated throughout this process. We were returning customers who trusted this business. We raised concerns before the installation, relied on the reassurance we were given, and have spent months trying to work things out. Instead of feeling like a customer they wanted to keep, we have felt like we've been given excuse after excuse.
I also want to be fair and say that Adam's staff has been nothing but nice to us. My frustration is with how the owner has handled this situation.
I know problems happen, and I understand that warranties have limitations. What I have a hard time understanding is why a business wouldn't want to work with a returning customer who is willing to compromise and pay a portion of the cost to get things resolved.
I have always believed in supporting local businesses, and it's disappointing when an experience like this changes the way you feel about a company you once trusted.
I'm sharing this so others in the area can make an informed decision and ask questions about warranties before purchasing flooring. I truly wish this had been handled differently.
