One of my all-time favorite shops. Juxtaposition Home just gets it. The vibe is cozy, elevated, and effortlessly cool -- like if Montauk and California had a design baby. I always find something I love, whether it's a sculptural piece of furniture, layered textiles, or just a small accent that makes a space feel more "me." The team is lovely -- super helpful without being pushy. You can tell the owner really cares about creating something special, not just selling stuff. Every piece feels curated and intentional, not mass-produced. We picked up a few things for our new home, and they've honestly become some of our favorite pieces. It's the kind of store you want to visit just for inspiration, but somehow you always end up leaving with a bag (or two). Highly recommend if you're into beautiful, soulful design. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this store by accident and spent some time browsing here. Lots of interesting items to buy from the store: a great selection from books to mugs to pottery to home decoration to art. My wife and I also had a great conversation with the woman who owns the store with her husband. We spoke about lots of things, including her sensible policy regarding phones. My wife bought an interesting and unusual book about artists, which was being sold for a good price. The only photo I can share is the outside of the store. The owners aren't comfortable with people taking photos of the inside of their store and we respected that. We'll happily return the next time we're in the area. read more

Verbally Assaulted by Owner!!! I'm still shaken by what happened at this store today. My sister and I were browsing when she briefly pulled out her phone to check a text message. The owner immediately began screaming at us about a no-phones policy. While I understand stores may have policies to protect their merchandise, what followed was completely unacceptable. When we froze in shock at being yelled at, the owner mocked us, asking sarcastically if we were "traumatized." We quickly left the store, but the harassment didn't end there. I called back to speak with management and get the owner's name. Turns out she was the owner, and continued screaming at us, asking if we'd "ever worked a day in our lives," telling us we were "ruining small businesses," that we should "go to TJ Maxx," calling us "trash," and berating us further. When I asked her name she said, "my name is the fucking owner" and stated that she owned the store. The irony is that my sister and I both own small businesses ourselves. We deeply understand the challenges and hard work involved. That's precisely why we know there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior. This wasn't about enforcing a store policy - this was verbal abuse and bullying that continued even after we left. No customer, or person deserves to be treated with such cruelty and disrespect. My friend and I stopped in after lunch to see what was inside. It's interesting to see the contrast of the phone conversation-- I think this is a fabulous curated space and honestly haven't seen anything authentic like this in a while, especially in OC. Sad that people can't respect a simple rule, but it's also telling of how blindly consumed people are with a small screen. I love the east coast and euro culture inspiration. Unfortunately, that is where the positivity stops...The owner of this establishment is the rudest, most condescending soul I have ever met in my life. She is arrogant on levels you can't imagine....she disrespected my wife and I on multiple occasion, within the first three minutes of entering her establishment. I understand their phone policy but even if I did not it's their store and their policy. I actually pulled out my phone to take pictures so I could order over the phone once I measured my space (visiting from another part of the country). The owner very politely let me know that their store was phone free. I apologized, he thanked me and we moved on. My two college aged boys made a comment that they liked his policy. In a world where people are walking around talking on speaker, using props that do not belong to them for their social media posts and listening to videos on high volume I get it! It's frustrating and I would do the same thing if I had the courage. It made shopping peaceful! The store has beautiful things I have not seen other places. I wanted everything in there. I have been to this store twice now and today was it. Both owners are rude and try to belittle and humiliate. There is absolutely no need for this type of reception and behavior. My daughter was scared to go inside the store as their vibe was off. I asked her to wait outside. I knew they had a no phones policy but it being close to mothers day i thought they would make an exception so i could send a picture of what i want to my husband. Earlier today I stopped in Juxtaposition in search of a couple mudcloth throw pillows for my new leather sectional. This store always has beautiful and unique items from around the world- although the prices are extremely high... as I was wandering through the store I was startled by the sound of someone shrieking from across the store! As the woman continued to scream I determined that the screamer worked at the store and for a moment I thought she must've seen someone shoplifting based on her reaction, but a moment later I realized that this woman was the owner and she was furious! Her screams were being directed at 2 lovely women whom I'd noticed earlier and had smiled at me as I'd passed by them. From what I gathered, one of them had pulled out her phone when she got a text notification. The owner continued screaming at them about her cell phone policy. I felt awful for the two ladies because both of them looked utterly shocked and humiliated. She called them "trash", told them they were "ruining small businesses" and told them to leave and "go shop at TJ Maxx!" Her behavior was so outrageous and over the top that I thought surely this had to be some kind of practical joke and I half expected to see Ashton Kutcher walk out with a camera crew. As the two ladies walked out wide-eyed and completely shaken, the owner began to mock them! She actually cackled like psycho and said something like "oh no... are you so traumatized?" and called them trash again. (No human is trash but these women were far from it! They were both elegant and well dressed, and seemed friendly and kind) I was in complete shock. I have never witnessed someone treat another person this way- ever, and this was the owner of a high end store verbally assaulting her own customers for checking a text message?!?! I went from being shocked to disgusted and decided to leave immediately and never set foot in that store again. I spent the rest of the day kicking myself for not speaking up- I'm the kind of person who normally would not let something like this slide, but I was so taken aback by the absurdity of the situation I was speechless. Do not shop at this store. The people who work there are crazy. They have signs that you can not have a cell phone showing when you are in the store. Several people watch you as you walk around the store. A sign said no cell phones and I assumed it was related to the ringer going off or talking on the cell phone, so I turned my ringer off and was prepared not to take any calls. It was work hours and I did have to respond to a text. The second I scroll through to read my text, the gal shouted from the counter and said there are absolutely no cell phones in the store. It wasn't said in a nice way either. I just immediately left. I have shopped at this store for years since it was in crystal cove and have never seen this. I will unfortunately take this place off my list of stores to visit. Everything is way over priced anyway and service has never been friendly. read more

They have the most exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces that truly make a statement. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a woman with a warm, welcoming smile. She took the time to tell me about the store and how it all began, giving me a tour without a hint of pressure to buy anything. Her kindness and genuine passion for the space made the experience so enjoyable that I ended up purchasing a couple of beautiful coffee tables and some stylish pillows. Before leaving, I asked if I could speak to her manager to share how impressed I was with her customer service. She smiled and said, "You are very kind--and you're speaking to her. I'm the owner!" Enter at your own risk! What a horrible and truly traumatizing experience. The owner is openly hostile and verbally abusive. It's no surprise she has little to no business and keeps telling people she's shutting the store down. She publicly belittled her husband in front of customers, and he stood by passively, almost entertained by the way she spoke to me -- I would have been a paying patron had I not been verbally assaulted. She'll do everything she can to gaslight you and make you feel like you're the problem. The most unbelievable part? She proudly displays a printout of her bad reviews right on the checkout counter, using them as a twisted badge of honor. Apparently, she believes everyone else is the issue. To the owner: If you spent less time gossiping about your warehouse neighbor and how often they've called the police on you--and less time complaining about your business troubles to anyone who'll listen, including customers just trying to shop--and more time treating paying customers with basic respect, your business might still be relevant. She doesn't welcome you in, but attacks you for looking at the displays, reading the books, followed us around like we were stealing. I spent over $800 last time I was in there. I walked in this darling store yesterday and was horrified by what was taking place. A tall, blonde lady - clearly the owner - by what she was shouting - berating and yelling at a visibly shaken older woman (probably in her 80's). I did not quite understand what was happening, I just knew that the whole situation felt abusive and unsafe. Bizarrely enough, there was a gentleman behind the register just watching this abusive situation take place, not doing a thing. The owner was yelling, calling this lady a "dead-walking barnacle, " yelling and telling me (innocent bystander) that this lady had her cellphone out when there were signs posted about a no cellphone policy. (The lady just had her phone around her neck -not using it). I walked out with the sweet, elderly lady and tried to comfort her as she was in tears. There were two ladies outside the store shaken as well. I guess the owner tried to grab their cellphones and was yelling at them as well. The whole situation was sad, shocking and bizarre. I would die if someone treated my 85 year old mom like that, but it was also sad watching a woman completely losing it, saying off-the-wall things. while a man (her husband, I believe) just was watching, not trying to help. This was not a normal situation that took place. The owner later came out with her middle finger in the air, singing a song while walking away. Walked into this store with my friend and loved everything. We were even thinking about buying a few items. We walked around the store and were talking amongst ourselves and being incredibly respectful of the space, until I pulled out my phone to quickly show my friend a photo of a charcuterie board I made recently (as I was thinking about buying cheese knives from the store) and the owner rudely approached us and told us patronizingly "did you not see the sign PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY" which we did immediately afterwards. The interaction left such a bad taste in both of our mouths that we put back items we were going to purchase and walked out. As we were walking out the owner said "OH NO PHONES MEANS THEY DONT WANT TO SHOP HERE ANYMORE!!!!" Extremely loudly so we could hear. I have never been disrespected like that by anyone, let alone a business owner and I wasn't going to let her get away with speaking to me like that so I walked back into the store and said "we respected your rules and immediately put our phones away and as we walked out you made another comment and you expect us to want to spend money here?" And then she started complaining about the price of her insurance and about how "my generation" always has to be on our phones and are some kind of liability to her business which is simply not mine or my friends problem as we were causing no trouble in her store. She was literally screaming at me and then told us we should go back to Costco and Target. So you're yelling at me in your store and still expecting me to spend MY HARD EARNED MONEY? Yea get one thing right lady, MY GENERATION cares about where we spend our money and your business is no longer on that list. I thought long and hard about writing this review because small business is hard and most small business owners deserve our support. Also, I have loved Juxtaposition for years and have many favorite items in my home. Needless to say, my daughter and I did not expect a verbal and physical attack when shopping there last week. We were alone in the store when my daughter received a medical call regarding her son. She might have been on the call for a minute when a woman charged into the store yelling "what the f***!" She made a beeline for my daughter and began to aggressively berate her for not seeing the no phone signs. Though obvious when pointed out, my daughter did not see either sign as she was talking to me as we walked in. The owner wouldn't listen to any explanation and seemed to be explosively angry. When she launched into an ugly tirade about "wearing" our phones and started screaming "you're sick" and other vulgar comments, I started to video the attack. Her response was to rip my phone off of me and take it out to the curb by a garbage can. She PHYSICALLY ripped my phone off my body as I was trying to hold onto it and my purse. My daughter was imploring the man at the counter to intervene. That was not the end of it though! She began to insult other innocent customers who entered the store near the end of this craziness. She insulted a young mother who had just made a purchase in the store because she asked her to leave my daughter alone. As she--the owner--left the store, she gave all of us (6 women and 1 young child) the finger and called us "design barnacles." She marched away sipping her drink and laughing. Her IG post the next day: "Have the courage to be disliked." I say have some human decency and control. Your hostile attacks and quick-to-judge assumptions about your own customers is shocking--not courageous. read more

I have shopped at Juxtaposition Home for many, many years for myself and for my clients and agree with the reviews that it is a treasure trove of beautiful, unique home goods with a very specific point of view. I can even abide by their STRICT no cell phone policy and the MANY signs throughout the store warning shoppers against it. To be clear, this means that not only are photos/videos prohibited, but you cannot so much as come into physical contact with your phone. Do so at your own peril - you will be called out and publicly reprimanded by the owner. I can appreciate the frustration at being copied or exploited so we followed the rules. Even so, we were still treated with disrespect and suspicion and met with jaw dropping rudeness and aggression by the owner of the store while her husband and co-owner stood there silently. Apparently another rule is that you cannot ask ANY questions, request information (like dimensions, pricing or tear sheets) on their merchandise. We were told point blank that you buy it and you leave, you do not bring clients to the store and that they have no desire to work with the design trade - which is an interesting platform for a business that deals in high end home furnishings and accessories in Newport Beach. Furthermore, Juxtaposition is "not the store for you" and we should "run along" to Amber Interiors or a list she would provide for us of more appropriate places for us to shop. This owner knows absolutely nothing about who we are, what our business or client list is like or who we were shopping for, which is unfortunate for her. We were prepared to spend an exorbitant amount of money in their store but there is absolutely no scenario where I would continue to support this "mom and pop shop" and their bizarre behavior and I will continue to share my experience with other designers in our area. read more
