This is a small coffee shop in the ticket office building at Shipley Station. It's purpose is to sell coffee to the commuters of Shipley. It is basically a counter with a coffee machine behind it, a tray with a few cakes/flapjacks/chocolate bars on and a fridge with soft drinks in. There are a few stools and they also sell the Telegraph and Argus, the local daily paper. They also do teacakes (with too much butter) and bacon rolls (with too much grease). The people behind the counter are mildly friendly and do smile, but don't seem overly inspired or enthusiastic about their business, which is understandable there is nothing to get excited or enthusiatic about, but if it were your business wouldn't you do something about that?!
They have a loyalty card system, buy 8 coffees, get 1 free. My loyalty card acts as a count of how often the trains are late, because that's the only time I get time to buy a coffee. And, if I'm being honest, I'm disappointed every time. There is no alternative coffee source in the vicinity otherwise I would go there! I've given them every chance to impress me, having tried every type of coffee they do, filter (not tasty, below average), cappuccino (too cold, not strong enough), latte (tepid milk with a whiff of caffeine at the most), espresso (vile), mocha (terrible, beyond even the latte)... basically they're all poor.
This is an oppurtunity that is being whole heartedly missed. They could do good coffee/drinks, good breakfast products, sell more papers, better selection of confectionary and savoury products, it wouldn't take much. May be they've done the maths and it's not a viable or attractive option, but judging by their lack of enthusiasm, I somehow doubt it.
One star for simply existing and the occasional half-hearted smile. read more
