We loved working with Elizabeth. Our daughter really solidified her math skills and math facts this…read moresummer, and was able to start the school year with incredibly strong footing. Elizabeth was patient, supportive and direct in how she tutored her -- helping to anchor her in self-confidence and knowing she can figure things out when she slows down and leverages the core math facts and ways of approaching problem solving. She was great! Elizabeth also sent incredibly thorough weekly summaries of the progress our daughter was making, what they focused on and where she could use more support/effort. It was so helpful to read those each week. If needed, we'd definitely return to Elizabeth in the future. ~ Lauren, mom of Cobble Hill 8 year old math student

Our daughter absolutely adored her. Lisa was always available whenever I had questions, responded quickly, and collaborated closely with our daughter's other therapists to ensure she received the best possible support. From the very beginning, they formed a wonderful connection, and over time, Lisa became much more than a therapist--she became a true friend to our daughter. Even now that we've moved away, Lisa still takes the time to chat with her from time to time, which means so much to all of us. We truly cannot recommend Lisa highly enough. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for our family, and we are all very sad not to have her by our side anymore. Thank you as well for always checking in and making sure everything was going well. We really appreciated your support throughout the process. - Peggy, mom of Upper West Side 4th grader

She worked with me in a way to physically massage and open my vocal chord muscles, as well as to improve the tone. Because of her training as a voice and speech pathologist, she immediately could hear that my voice was too high pitched, and we worked for some sessions to open up my voice and find a more resonant, deeper pitch. I went from really disliking hearing my voice, to being absolutely amazed at how my voice sounded after some sessions. This lower pitch in my singing and talking voice was more natural for me, and even way more soothing for other people to listen to, including myself. Gaida also has a beautiful calming demeanour, and made me feel comfortable to sing and be vulnerable in her presence, when normally I am very self conscious. Please note Family Speech Center has two locations, this is a review for the Astoria location,…read morealthough I believe they share an office staff. Also, please note that while this is my experience, this practice has been serving Astoria for over 20 years, I hope other patients who have had better experience leave their reviews as well. We brought our son for an evaluation session for a stutter. The office staff did not book the appointment into the OT's calendar, when we arrived she had no idea we were coming. She spent less than 30 minutes evaluating our son, a process that should take between 60 and 90 minutes according to other professional speech therapists. Family Speech Center's staff initally told me over the phone that the evaluation would be covered and I'd owe only a copay of $50, but after the evaluation was done they charged our insurance $780 (for 23 minutes). The max our insurance allowed was $280, which I was forced to pay before they would share the written evaluation with us. The evaluation missed significant portions of our son's abilities when compared to a 90 minute evaluation from a second professional. The second professional that we saw said that therapy was unnecessary for the stutter at this age, and to keep an eye on the drooling and mucus flow. They noted that the first 20 minutes of a session is getting the kids into a relaxed state, and we should throw out the evaluation from Family Speech Center. UPDATE: I was contacted several times after leaving this review, first by the office manager in an email that claimed "The statements you made in the reviews are FALSE." After several emails exchanged, the partners contacted me and clarified their evaluation methodology. For their office, a 30 minute evaluation is standard if a patient does not show other signs that need further attention, and the provider had the audio recording with our son to review for her evaluation. They did offer a refund for the services or a second complimentary evaluation, which was polite, but I chose to decline both.

I cannot share enough kind words about Ozanam Hall of Queens NY. After a recent stroke and a twelve…read moreday hospital stay, my dad went to Ozanam for rehabilitative services. My family didn't place dad there blindly, it was by choice, after weighing all the options. We have a family member who is a long term resident there currently as well as a long time family friend who is there too. They love the care they receive and the staffers they receive it from. Their recommendations were well received. From the moment I entered the front door and was greeted by the front desk attendant Lana, I knew dad was in a great, loving, caring and Holy place. I went up to dad's floor, was greeted by every staff member I passed. Not just on my first visit, but every visit. No matter how busy they were, every single person said hello. As time went on, those greetings were by name. It truly felt like dad was being cared for by loving family. My visits only lasted a week or so as I live about 700 miles away, but my experience and my opinions of my dad's treatment are fact based. He could not have received better care anywhere else. The facility was spotless, well maintained and the staff all love why they do. It takes a special kind of person to do this work. Ozanam is blessed with the best. Ozanam is even updating the rooms one floor at a time. It's nice to see the investment back into the facilities. The office staff was extremely helpful, kind and very communicative. They assisted in every way possible, making the daunting logistics of dealing with the insurance companies a less daunting part of the experience. I could not ask for better! I'd like to name everyone I met there who cared for me dad and assisted my family throughout, but I would have to name every person in the public eye as well as everyone behind the scenes there. By God's plan, my dad, Donald B. declined due to advancing medical conditions. He received great personal care and was treated with dignity up to and beyond when he took his final breath. He passed on Sept 22, peacefully in his sleep. The staffers who knew him were as sad as we are. Thank you to everyone at Ozanam Hall of Queens for all you do for every person in your care every day. May continue to God bless you all. Please keep doing what you do!!! You all are absolutely incredible. Rest easy dad! God's got you!
