But it's in the realm of high heels that Zu really comes into its own. Unluckily for me, I possess the skinniest feet in the universe. Happily for me, Zu caters for such abnormally anorexic feet - bad luck to you wider-soled sisters. I'm pretty happy with this turn of events, as is my wallet: Zu shoes rarely cost as much as they might elsewhere. But my favourite thing about Zu is the range within its stock. Bang on trend block colour satin heels are available, as are Hollywood's favourite nude pumps. But in addition to these overly fashionable shoes, the old faves still have a place - black stilettos and silver strappy sandals are readily available here too.

If that's the case, Northern Beaches hipsters, General Pants is for you. Located in the giant Warringah Mall, General Pants is home to an amalgamation of Australian and international brands of a cool bent. From these generally rad brands come bangin' threads that are usually a little left of centre, a little bit cool - if you're into what I've termed 'ironic chic', then General Pants is for you. Oversized Norweigan sweaters? Tick. Pre-ripped, pre-faded jeans? Tick. Knits that are longer at the back than the front? Tick tick tick. The clothes are generally pretty good quality, and are not too dear - more expensive than Supre for sure, but by no means outrageous. General Pants also stocks shoes - Warringah Mall's home of Chuck Taylor's has a range of cool and comfy type shoes. It also has accessories to go with your mandatory thick-rimmed glasses. With stuff for both men and women, General Pants is a great place to have a look if you're sick of the stuff in every other shop at the mall.

The menswear is predominately t-shirts, while the women's clothing includes tops, dresses and skirts. But it's the accessories at Sage that I adore. They have a fabulous range of vintage pieces including boots, leather belts and bags and some awesome unique creations. I love their handbags and clutches which are very now and very on-trend. The jewellery is also great.

The shoes are stocked on their shelves in an organised way and it is relatively easy to find a size once you've chosen the model you want. Fitness First members get an additional 20% off already reduced prices. My husband and I were able to get fairly new models of running shoes for $64 each, which is actually cheaper than US prices. The shoes I bought are listed at DSW for US $79.95. The staff are friendly and helpful, one of the sales assistants was very obliging in helping us find the size for the shoes we wanted because we couldn't find one on the shelves. In fact, they come up to you when they see you looking at shoes and let you know that if you can't find your size on the shelf, they'll check if they have it in their stockroom. I know it's their job but I've found the staff at other outlet stores to be unhelpful or grumpy, so for me it's a plus that they have good sales assistants.
Who doesn't love Australian accessories label Mimco? OK so there are more than a couple Mimco…read morestores about town these days but somehow Mimco have managed to keep their authenticity in tact, meaning that each piece is still as individual and unique as the day Mimco launched. There is something inspired, something whimsical even magical about Mimco accessories. The trademark bags are a Aussie girl's wardrobe staple and the jewelry, hairclips, scarves, hats and sunglasses are treasured pieces that bring even the most bland outfit to life. Mimco pieces are quality so they don't come on the cheap. They do however have GREAT sales so if you want a piece then maybe best to head to a boutique at tax time or after Christmas. I recently picked up a pair of rose gold hoop earings on sale from $50 to $30. They also have a great loyalty program - Mimco Collective - which you can sign up for in store with a purchase and get great rewards.

Their goods make the perfect present for friends. Upon seeing the MIMCO bag, your friends will no doubt be very thankful. Their pricing ranges from medium-expensive but the quality of goods is exceptional. Mimco at Chatswood receives the largest amount of stock which is a major plus considering all the items sell like hot cakes! They regularly have sales and recently I bought diamonte earrings for $30 which were down from $84.95! The accessories are super cute and are always a conversation starter. On many occasions I have been asked where I bought the item in question from, in addition to being complimented. Mimco accessories are beautiful enough to rival those over at Alannah Hill!

The shop is absolutely chockers full of beautiful dresses for day or night that don't come from the major Australian fashion players. Accordingly, none of the dresses in there look familar from other stores or girls you've seen on the street - I can almost guarantee you will be the only girl rocking that particular dress. The stores stocks dresses for all occasions - the races, a wedding, lunch, work or a night out. The buyer for this store is obviously very, very clever. The girls who work in the store are incredibly helpful and friendly - I told them of the occasion I needed the dress for, and they came back to me with a range of options; so nice! The prices are reasonable - less than $60 for a day dress, and most of the stock comes in at less than $100. I suggest that instead of wearing the same Glassons/Sportsgirl number everyone else is, go to Saffron Road and fall in love with something original.
