Phot taken 5/16/2021. Green is GONE!
Chris A.

This place is a DIRT track at this point, at least the Lake Side course is. I don't think I've ever played a course in worse shape. The greens are GONE and the fairways aren't much better. They have a lot of nerve charging $65 to play THAT....

#16 green riverside course

Both Courses in the past were degrading, poor maintenance....no longer. The past 3 years has been constant improvements. Courses are in excellent shape. Greens are clean and getting faster. (Little slow still) this year is the best conditions I've ever seen there in the 10 years I've been going. Great work

Over aggressive range killed the round. Seems to be a theme here
Michael C.

Both courses are usually in decent shape with albeit slower greens. Pace of play typically runs under 4.5 hours. So good so far, right? Customer service is severely lacking to the point where you should seriously consider playing another course. Again, another problem with an over aggressive ranger (see other reviews - you can't make this up). On the 17th hole on lakeside, we hit irons off the tee about 200 yds out. The ranger proceeds to wave the group behind us up, when we are clearly in range. We questioned what he was doing. He proceeded to take this as an insult and followed us the final two holes within 20yds of the cart (rather than do his job). It was quite strange, and killed what was an enjoyable round. I'm not sure why he felt the need to be right up our cart since we were right behind the group in front. Quite strange and when I questioned him on the 18th, he wanted to throw us off the course. Again, see other reviews. Ranger issues here can kill what should be an enjoyable round.

Bryan R.

Lovely place, upscale feel around the course as far as landscaping. Overall good layout. Downsides are somewhat gruff service, crowded play, and extremely soft almost unplayable greens. The greens aren't in bad shape (they look quite healthy) but are frustratingly soft and almost fairway-length in cut.

Given that there is no directional signage posted that shows players how to get to the range, I drove up the hill yesterday instead of down looking everywhere for the range,. I finally asked a surly cart boy where it was and he responded with derision that "it was right down the hill." When I got there the ball machine was overly difficult to navigate so I drove back to the cart boy to request assistance. He made it clear that he was put out but drove down to the machine with me. Once he got it working it was out of balls! at only 1PM on a Sunday. I asked how that could be and why wasn't it being serviced? his response "Oh well..there are only two of us. You're happy to complain to the Head Pro. Which I did in the pro shop only to be told A) you dove right by the range coming into the course. So he was blaming me for not being able to find it. B) he also shrugged at the machine being empty..and like the cart boy said Oh Well." If any of these staff worked for a Corporate Service Industry Company they would be terminated on the spot for their behavior. I reminded the Head Pro that in fact golf course are in the Service Industry and he might want curb his attitude and that of his unprofessional and rude staff.

Yes, the course is hilly so getting a flat lie is difficult, but if you can play well here, you can play well anywhere. And the views, especially on the third hole, are great. The restaurant is no longer there, and likely will not be replaced. Nine holes, but different tees on the back nine mixes it up a bit. It's a nice course, challenging in places, great scenery in others.

WCC is an excellent 9-hole course. It is NOT an 18-hole championship course, but IT IS one of the most impeccable 9-hole courses in MA. One typically plays whites out, blues in for a total yardage of about 6200. The blues are only about 200 yards longer, but the tee box placement makes it a much tougher 9. The greens run hot when they are in full swing, think 7/8 on the stimpmeter. The fairways are gorgeous, but the fringe and green rough is sometimes imperfect. For a public course, this is top notch. It gets a lot of play. The greens make this course challenging. If you are on, you can go low easily. If you are having one of those days, prepare to be eaten alive. The course has a very reachable par 4 (in 1, hole 2) and a reachable par 5 (in 2, hole 1). The third hole is a sloping and narrowing par 5 with the toughest green on the course. You MUST be below the hole. This course will force you to hit every club in your bag at least once, you will find yourself with uneven lies, and often questioning how you could three-putt from 15 feet. Worth every penny of the $22 for 9, or $32 for 18.

After our initial drives this much older balding gentleman (or man as he was not very gentle) drove by in a small vehicle and told us that we need to split our group because of Covid rules-there could not be a group of five. We understood, said OK, and moved on: One group of three first and then the group of two. (keep in mind there are also two groups in front of us playing). When my friend and I were walking along the fairway to retrieve our balls on the third hole, that older guy drives up to us again and exclaims, " You must be learning how to play golf. We need to be faster and move along." When my friend told him that we had been waiting for the groups in front of us to play their hole, he just waved us off and continued driving his small truck. As we checked in to play the second half of the course, they added two strangers to our group. The strangers were nice and all, but we didn't understand why we couldn't have just played with the original three people that we came with that we knew were clean and Covid free. The group of three in front of us, that we knew, also would have a random a person join their group once for the first half and then again for the second half. The course itself was fine for a nine hole course, but the way that man treated paying customers is really what made me come on here to write this review. He totally ruined a good time. The other staff we came across were pretty nice. I definitely will not be coming here. You've been FOREwarned.

A woman who appeared to be some type of manager asked the children twice to make sure they did not run around, as though there were no parents present to address their behavior. We completely understood the request. In reality, the children only ran around for about two minutes on two occasions during the entire dinner. Despite this, what made us uncomfortable was the way she repeatedly walked around our table, making visible expressions of disappointment and disapproval. At the time, the Grille Room was very quiet, with only one other table and a couple seated at the bar before another party of five arrived. We certainly understand that children need to behave appropriately in a restaurant, but families should still be made to feel welcome, especially when celebrating a special occasion. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling as though our presence was a problem simply because we had a young child with us. Perhaps for our next birthday celebration, we will take our business somewhere that feels more welcoming to families.
