I had no idea this place opened up this past weekend in Oxnard (at Riverpark Collection) until a…read morefriend sent me a reel via Instagram. I didn't even know what to expect, as I had never heard of this place until recently, but Activate Oxnard had a $ 10-per-person deal for 1 hour of game time, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about. You can book online or walk in, but booking online guarantees you a spot for that hour. When you walk in, you receive a blue wristband and a locker number to store all your belongings. Then, you create a profile with a username and link it to your email. You use a white wristband to log in, and now your username will pop up every time you enter a game room. Inside Activate Oxnard, there are approximately 10 game rooms. You use your white wristband to have you and your family/friends each scan into a game. The question marks on the games of the iPad explain the rules of the games. The levels show how far you have come. Most games you work together with your family/friends for points, but the games in red are the ones in which you compete against each other. Each game takes 1-3 minutes to play, so if someone is already playing in a room, you won't wait for more than 1-3 minutes before it's your turn to play. The games involve running, dodging, jumping, throwing balls, taking part in quick-thinking challenges, and more. You will be sweaty by the end of the hour, so wear breathable clothing and closed-toe shoes. The time will go by fast. You will have SO much fun. I've been twice already and have booked another session for a week from now. I'm completely hooked. This place is SO much fun. It's both physically and mentally challenging. Per the website, you must be at least 6 years old to play and attend with an adult. I'd say the only downside is that you have to be in a party of at least 2 to play. I understand, because if you have a bunch of individual people playing, it would take longer to get into the rooms, but I'd love to go here after work and play on my own without having to track down someone to play with. Oh well, though. At least this is a fun date-night activity, a ladies' night activity, a family activity, or just a form-a-group-with-strangers activity! Welcome, Activate Oxnard!

My son and I came on a Friday morning during Spring Break. Check in is easy, you receive a wristband and create an account for tracking your points. From there, you go to different play rooms to try different challenges. I like that there's never a long wait to get into a room and its just you and your party inside. The games are very interactive - kinda like Squid Games meets Mission Impossible. We had so much fun running around and diving under lasers - we were drenched in sweat by the end of our one hour. Would definitely recommend for older kids - at least 10+ and just as much fun for adults!
