When getting married, the one thing I wanted to make sure I had more than anything was beautiful, true-to-life pictures of the wonderful patchwork of family and friends that would likely never be together in the same room in the same combination again. Not only did Zach deliver photos more gorgeous than I could've imagined, I had zero stress about it in the run up to the event. It was fantastic to be able to talk candidly to Zach about what I wanted and feel heard. I wish this was the case with all wedding vendors! Zach shot our engagement and wedding photos on the San Antonio Riverwalk. We talked before hand and I told him I'm not a staged pinterest-y bride, but I wanted beautiful candid shots with bold, bright colors, and he did not disappoint. I received hundreds of incredible photos back within two weeks of the event, and literally wept in an airport while looking through them because he was so able to capture the love and fun of our event. It was such a whirlwind night that there were parts I didn't even remember that I got to see waiting for me in the photos. He did an incredible job prioritizing the people that matter to us so I could see in my family's faces how they were feeling. He caught all the important moments and then some, and we even threw in a dog and some children to make his job hard, and he handled it all with aplomb. He also sent a detailed example video on what clothing options you can pull from your wardrobe to bring a specific look to life! (Tip: watch that video and bring LOTS of clothing options to your shoot!) Arthur is talented, kind, and made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the whole shoot. I want to preface this review by saying I had to search really hard for a photographer that had…read moreexperience photographing people of color in a flattering manner. I interviewed other photographers before Ash and some stated they photographed darker skin tones before but had ZERO evidence of that in their portfolios. As you can imagine, this was a frustrating process because I do not want to pay a photographer to be their guinea pig on my special day! The photographer that could show me a person of color even stated that the photos were kind of gray and washed out because he usually uses a gray filter for paler tones and that's what people typically request!! I asked if he could take the SINGLE photo back to the drawing board and edit it so that the color is more saturated and he told me he wasn't interested. There's a really good buzzfeed video about this very issue from the videographers of the show Insecure. In short, regardless of your skin tone, if you want to spend your hard earned cash on someone that truly cares about your appearance on your special day, Ash is for you. She is very bubbly and friendly. She is a great listener and remembers everything. She even wore my wedding colors. She was early to the site (two hours away from Austin) and left late. I'm not expecting anyone to do this but I'm just telling you what happened. I did my own makeup and she took shots of my face multiple times to ensure I wasn't making any terrible mistakes. We discussed ahead of time that I am a fan of candid shots and she caught plenty of those!! Poor Ash had to jump in the very very back of my cousin's SUV to ride with me to the altar due to the setup of the venue. She even traipsed through the woods with us to get those important wilderness shots. And best of all, the sunset photos. The sunset photos brought out so many colors that were actually there but barely visible during our November wedding. I don't have a single complaint about Ash! I have been thinking for a month now for something critical to say. I have asked my partner and she can't come up with anything either. All I can say is that the pictures were amazing, the color saturation was there, we weren't faded and washed out and the pictures were crystal clear. I hate posed photos and even those where we are posing do not look staged. We received the photos before the date on our contract and she was super patient with my random text messages stating "where are my pics??". Her website is super cute and accessible and our family loves it. She was professional but nice enough to get along with my family and chat with them during the wedding to make them feel comfortable. She got my mom to take off her perpetual sunglasses so I finally have good pictures of my mom! If you like her photos, then book her. If you are looking for something a little different, whatever that is, then talk to her about it and I'm sure she can make it happen.
