To be fair, I had never had lamb before, so I didn't know if it's usually that good or if they did something special with theirs. Portions were large enough to have leftovers for dinner, so that was nice. Service was fine, a little more hands off than we're used to in the U.S. but that seems to be common in the UK. I was stuck between the club sandwich and BBQ pulled pork open sandwich. On recommendation I went for the pork, which was served, on sourdough toast with melted Monterey cheese - heaven! I was having food-envy looking at the lamb burger but was not in anyway disappointed with my pork. Finishing off our meal with the Parlour's specialty - ice creams all round! I have a new found love for the homemade lemon meringue cone... There is so many flavours including apple pie and the originals too - its an ice cream lovers heaven! My in-laws suggested we go here for an early dinner out during our recent stay in Kelso, and from the outside my initial thoughts were... meh, Wetherspoons-type food here we go! However when we stepped in to the bar/restaurant I was pleasantly surprised. The interior was warm, clean, and inviting, and the staff were instantly welcoming. The menu appeared fairly standard pub/restaurant fare... burgers, fish and chips, steak... There was a daily specials board with some lovely choices available. I opted for the chicken fajitas off the regular menu, and boy, I wan't disappointed. This dish was carried out of the kitchen sizzling and smoking on a three tiered stand with a hotplate jam-packed with deliciously tender and moist chicken strips with juicy onions peppers, chills, and coriander on the bottom shelf, soft tortillas on the middle, and sour cream and sweet chilli sauce on the top! These may be some of the best fajitas I have ever tasted, living up to the fajitas of my youth (from The Tidy Doffer in Lisburn, Co Antrim). Carricks fish stall visits Barnard Castle on a Wednesday & I believe a number of town markets…read morethroughout the week. They are based in Snape, Bedale. I visit this business 2/3 times a month to get FRESH FISH. The quality is very good and for a reasonable price. I think it is landed in Whitby, but not sure. It you want fresh fish inland then this is the place to visit. If they haven't got it you can ring and order to be collected the following week.
