We had challenges with our little one that were very overwhelming to manage, but we stuck it out and did everything we could to make sure our little one had the support needed to succeed at Happy Birch and moving forward. It wasn't easy, but Happy Birch was very supportive. It was difficult for everyone the staff, myself, my little one and other families. We were consistent with outside / inside school routines to regulate and guide our child to using the tools in learning how to navigate with the group. This was with our first child. Despite how much work it was it was all for the best. We now know what support she needs and we have a system that works for us. We were so happy and thankful to have learned and worked together through that time.

A beautiful environment built to draw creativity, imagination, and self discovery.. Our daughter stayed home with us until she was about 2 years old and once she reached that age, we decided to enroll our toddler here part time for the exposure, to build social skills, but mostly due to their philosophy of learning through hands on experiences with nature and artistic expression. The teachers here are truly amazing. When I had my very first teacher parent conference, I was surprised by how well the lead teacher Karen knew my toddler. She was passionate and genuine about sharing everything that she had observed in our 2 year old's development. And I could tell they shared a connection. It was very special. The director here is also very attentive and present. You can tell that she cares deeply about this school and she has a strong vision for the children and the curriculum. She has always been available and easy to talk to anytime we had questions or concerns. We will really miss this place when we move. Thank you so much for the attention and love that you gave to our toddler as she adjusted to care outside of the family. We would stay in LA just to keep our daughter in this school if we could. It is truly a special place, and again, we are extremely grateful to Mali and all of the teachers and faculty for bringing the magic to this school.

As a mom, I'm sharing my personal experience because I know how important it is to feel your child…read moreis safe and happy at school. We enrolled with high hopes, but unfortunately our experience was very different from what we expected. During the time my son attended the school, he came home several times with scratches and bite marks that I had never been told about. I usually found them during bath time, and whenever I asked what had happened, no one could give me an explanation. One teacher, in particular, seemed to make my son very anxious. He would cry whenever he saw her. One day he came home with blood on his clothes, and I was told he had fallen. As a mom, that really worried me and made me question the level of supervision. I also noticed changes in my son's behavior while he was attending the school. He became more irritable, his eating habits changed, and he started hitting his older brother, which was completely out of character for him. I can't say what caused those changes, but I noticed them during the time he was there, and they concerned me. Even after we left the school, whenever we drove past it, he would often become upset and say, "Mommy, I don't want to go to that school." Seeing that broke my heart. It took me a long time to help him feel like himself again. Every child and every family's experience may be different. This was simply ours, and as a mother, I felt it was important to share it so other parents can make the decision they believe is best for their own children.

Nancy Berkowitz and her team of teachers and helpers, care for each of the students as if they were their own. My wife and I are so happy with the number of teachers in each class, as each child gets a lot of personal attention. When we moved to LA two and a half years ago, we had no idea where to begin with schools, and were frantically looking for an environment which would really encourage our son's development, as well as give us comfort knowing that he was in the best hands possible. While searching, I was fortunate enough to meet Jamie Ashe, who's children attended the IJE. When she heard that my wife and I were unsure of where to send our son, she didn't hesitate to say, "Stop looking. Go see Nancy at the IJE and I promise you will fall in love." Well, Jamie, you were right on the money. Seeing our son run to hug each teacher, even the teachers not teaching his class, and hearing him tell us that he misses school nearly every weekend, warms my heart, and confirms that we found what we were looking for. Seeing our little toddler turn into a confident little boy has been an incredible journey so far, and I thank Nancy and everyone at the IJE for being such a contributing factor in his growth. If there were 10 stars, I would give 11! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

At 2 years, and 8 months he was going to be one of the youngest kids in his class as we asked for him to join the 3 year old class. The school provided a half day for all the new kids to come and check out the classroom, and for the parents to join. Out of the 14 or 15 kids in his class, he was only one of 5 that were new. The rest of the kids had been in the 2 year old class the year before. I really love that the classroom and building are very safe, closed off from the street, and feels like a school. This was important to me so my son could easily transition to a real school environment later on. There is VERY good teacher to student ratio with 3 teachers for 14 or 15 kids. The classroom and school is organized, tidy and there is a strong focus on cleanliness and hygiene. The week is broken up in to a day for arts, a day for music, a day for body movement and Friday's are Shabbat. My son is only 1/4 Jewish and there are a few non Jewish kids in his class and a few like him, who are of Jewish heritage but don't necessarily practice at home. My son loves all the songs he learns and comes home singing them every day. He is always telling me funny stuff. He showed me his thumb the other day ( learned at school) and that we live on the planet Earth and we are now entering the season of Spring. All age appropriate learning with a focus on social development and learning through play. Nancy the Director is an energetic and passionate woman who runs that school as if each child was her grandchild (and I believe her own grandaughter does attend) There is also easy drop off with a parking lot and lots of meters that are usually open. Most of the parents are working parents. My son leaves after lunch each day but I think 98% of the kids stay till 3pm or 5pm. It's a really lovely and sweet school that seems to be off the radar in LA's crazy preschool panic world. I highly recommend it !

I started my daughter here a year ago and she's also been thriving. By this point, the staff here feel like a part of my extended family. They have been so good to my children. Some updates on basic info: - open now from 8am to 6pm - as of Sept 2016 tutition is $1100 (extra $100 if not potty trained) -phone number listed is wrong. correct number: 213-674-7281 When my daughter started preschool last summer, she was 2.5 yo and did not really speak any Korean. She understood some but would always speak in English to us. After 3 months of preschool she was so fluent! And now a year later, she sounds like she belongs in a K-drama. ;) I find this so amazing because at home our predominant language is English (my hubs is not Korean). Something else I didn't mention in the previous review is their summer programming. They always do fun themes in the summer. For example, water fun week -- water slides, playing in "rain" with umbrellas, playing in kiddie pools. They also had world travel week where they "visited" different countries around the world. The teachers actually made little passports (that looked pretty real and must have taken a lot of effort to make!) and air plane boarding passes to these different countries. They made cuisine from the different countries for students to try and would stamp their passports as they "visited" each place. (FYI -- Summer is not the only time they do fun stuff like this.) One year they took the kids "camping"...in their play yard. They pitched tents and made s'mores. The kids had such a blast! The staff really tries hard to make school fun for the kids and I love them for trying so hard. It's now been 4 years since I first sent my son here and now I am on my second kid who is on her second year here and I definitely still recommend it to everyone who messages me to ask about preschools.
