After being surprised by Josef's approximately $900 quote to replace the movement of the watch (a standard quartz movement that itself is available for sale online for ~$40) I took the watch to JR Dunn in Pompano--an authorized Tag dealer and repair shop, where Josef's is not--and was quoted less than $300 to have the entire job done, by Tag themselves, with a warranty. Shamelessly quoting 3x a certified dealer for the exact same job is outrageous.

High end watches are in demand, are highly competitive... it pays to look around if you want to buy or sell... there's a few good spots here. For gold jewelry, typically all they really care about is the karat type 14k, 18k, 24k etc. and the weight. They give you an offer on the spot and will pay you cash. I found the price varied somewhat so best to go to 2 or 3 spots. You get the hang of it quickly. I found the people I met here to be very nice and were respectful... not pushy.
