My family and I were up in Julian and stopped in at "The Warm Hearth" shop where they had this amazing Christmas tree. They told us where they got it and we had to stop by. When we arrived at Julian Christmas Tree Ranch, we were greeted and knew immediately the customer service would be great. It felt like small town tree shopping, which I grew up around. We were offered a beer, cider, water or fireball. They had great trees, cut from the top of trees in the mountains. And we found a "white fir" which is beautiful! They tied it on top of our car for us too! No more Home Depot for trees. We will always come here for our Christmas trees! Very happy! Thank you guys! read more

We had sooo much fun today getting our Christmas tree at the Julian Christmas Tree Ranch. We found the tree Ranch on Yelp. It is family owned and operated. It was about 1 1/2 hours drive. So worth it. We were greeted by C.J. (Young man in the green T-shirt in our pictures). So knowledgeable and animated. Met the Mom and Dad and sons. Warm and friendly. Can't wait to go back next year. Pie in Julian afterward. It's 2018 now. We just left Julian Christmas Tree Ranch with AGAIN the most beautiful tree. It is appropriately named "the just one more" tree. Thank you so much to MIKEY and his brother for cutting one last tree this morning. It took less than 90 seconds to recognize our tree. If you cannot get there this year makes plans to go next year. The family that owns the tree farm are warm and welcoming. The trees are fresh and beautiful. Heading home with smiles and our " just one more" tree. In an attempt to begin this season with a festive spirit, we drove all the way to Julian to get a Christmas tree where there was snow :). It was a very Small lot, poor selection, starting at $95 for trees not much bigger than 5ft and not very filled out. Interesting they call it a tree Ranch, and there's no ranch to be seen. The staff was friendly, and I think that's the only positive I have. It looks like from the website you can pre order trees, maybe that's the best way to go about it with this particular "ranch". read more

Please keep in mind the negative reviews from said users listed (Nicole B, John B, Abraham K, and Jen W) were written by these folks after they were caught trespassing, violating and playing in snow on an elderly woman's property. These awesome people threw a nice tantrum when asked to leave her property, but they forget to mention that. Ultimately let's hope other users are intelligent enough to see past this idiotic banter from said individuals and focus on reviewing the business, which these silly accusations have nothing to do with. We showed up looking for a "cut it yourself" experience, but because I'm an idiot - I misread the website or something. The trees are pre-cut, and since we were already there, we decided to look around. I'm glad we did. Turns out, these guys have been doing this for a long time, and by this, I mean harvesting the trees in a way that doesn't kill the plant. How? I'll let them tell you all about it, but rest assured this is the most environmentally friendly way of getting a live tree that I've heard of thus far. The custom wood stand with water-holder worked BEAUTIFULLY, and was really cheap. They tie the tree(s) on your car for you, or at least that's how they did for us, and did them in an order so we could remove one, and then the other, based on the order of our carpool. Definitely a day trip if you don't live nearby but it's a great family trip...get the tree then stop in town for shopping, lunch and don't forget to pick up an apple pie downtown! We made the trek all the way out to Julian after our neighbors recommended this place to us. To say that we were disappointed with the service and the professionalism of the people working there would be an understatement. We have small children and we were spoken to by Mike using profanity and he was just plain rude. We were hoping to find our perfect tree but after being greeted in such a manner we quickly packed the kids in the car and left. So unless you're looking for an experience where the employees are openly drinking as they greet you, using profanity and are just downright rude I would travel elsewhere. Julian is a small town and has unfortunately been inundated with visitors, which seems to upset the locals, but so has every other small town. However, it doesn't give anyone the right to treat people the way we were treated today, especially with small children present. read more

We have been going to Julian to get our tree for the past 4 years as a family, we thought we started an annual tradition. We always had a great experience, Philip (one of the sons) always helped us and is a genuine guy and a United States Marine, we had a lot of respect for him and always had great conversation. Unfortunately, his younger brother (Mike) did not get raised with the same morals as Philip and if he did, he lost them somewhere along the way. We brought our nephews with us for the first time, they are 8 and 6 years old and have never seen snow in real life. We thought it would be fun for them to touch the snow so we went about 400 yards past the entrance to the Ranch and pulled over. There was an area that had no fence, we thought it would be harmless to let them walk in the snow and play in it. We were wrong! About 10 minutes into it a white car pulled up to my wife, sister and daughter and said "you're on private property and need to get the F#@! out of here". As we were walking over to leave he would not stop yelling and telling us how awful we were for being in the snow, on his families property. He was beyond belligerent and after me saying "OK man we apologize, we're getting out of here" he still wouldn't stop. I got heated and told him to calm down at which point he said "I'll get out and knock you the F#@$ out". I too am a US Marine and my Brother in-law is a Master Sergeant in the US Army. So as you can imagine his comment got our attention, but we gave him pass and did not rip him out of his car and handle business, that would not have been the example to set in front of our families. As I stopped, turned around and started approaching his car he yelled more obscenities and drove off. I looked at their website and the picture of him is in cut off jean shorts, no shirt, with his hand on his hip looking really cute, certainly not a tough guy so don't act like it then drive off when confronted. If you read this Mike you should be very thankful! I knew he was involved with the ranch so we went right over and he pulled in 2 minutes after we did. He had his tail between his legs and literally disappeared. I got Phillips attention and he walked over with his father, I shook his hand and told him we could not do business with them anymore based on his brothers behavior in front of my wife, daughter and young kids. We were wrong for being on private property and I apologized again but he was very out of line, especially in front of women and children. They all drink on the Ranch, I've had a beer with Phillip there, but it was obvious Mike had one too many, he was intoxicated and was feeling brave. I'm reading their reviews and it seems as though Mike had a bad weekend as others share a similar experience. He does not represent the family the way he should, he should be ashamed and needs to apologize to his brother, his Mom and his Dad. I know we're only one small family and their business won't suffer but I couldn't let this go without warning others. Mike's a little punk so if you go look out for the cute little boy with a weak mustache, he might just puff up his chest and disrespect your family too. If this happens please share it, he needs to be held accountable for his actions and his parents need to know how he is negatively representing their family. Not a better place to a buy a tree near San Diego. We love this place and after visiting it for the passed two years we've decided to make it our yearly tradition. It's a family owned and ran business. They're incredibly friendly, offer hot cocoa/coffee for FREE, and will load your tree FREE of charge. Get away from the hustle and bustle of San Diego and make a day trip for your Christmas Tree to Julian. Afterwords check out the local shops, buy a Christmas Tree ornament, or stop for some Mom's pie. Who knows maybe you'll even see some snow. Could not ask for a better way to start the season. This was our first trip and it was a horrible experience! Their website makes them appear to be a wholesome family with good values but they are quite the opposite! Their "youngest boy" who we think is named Mike was belligerent and threatening. He dropped the F bomb and every other swear word you can think of in front of 3 women and 5 children, his parents should be ashamed! Our four-year-old was in shock and said "he could go to jail for talking like that". He was obviously intoxicated and was never taught how to conduct himself in front of women and children. On top of that every man working had a beer in his hand and our kids asked what they were spitting out, we explained to them it was tobacco. The bright side is our kids learned some valuable life lessons on Saturday and we were able to discuss Mike's behavior and how people should be treated. I'm no saint but had I known what they were all about I certainly would not have driven 2 hours and taken my children to this environment, especially for such a wonderful experience as buying a Christmas tree. To each their own, but this is not for us and was a complete waste of time. If you have values and a family this place is not for you! read more

We just got our tree here yesterday, and we thought the place was really very nice and friendly. The tree selection was plenty, and I especially like the white fir trees. We stayed and chatted with the owners over a cup of coffee, and found a wreath for our house's front door too. My wife and daughters have come by this yard for more than 7 years now, because it's really nicely set up in Julian, and it has that country feel to it... much better than the local Home Depot. ..and the girls love seeing Rudolf the reindeer there too. Great family Christmas tree farm! Ed and his family have owned the property for 70 years. Very personable when you pull up, all the trees they offer are partially cut off trees that are still standing so no trees are cut down in the process. If you go during the day there are farm animals to see and wreaths to make out of the Christmas tree scraps!!! I would highly recommend going here to get your tree this season!
