Was searching for a late night dinner that was not overpriced and I was excited to try this new…read morefood truck near CWE. The good part about this food truck is that the menu items are pretty cheap compared to other food trucks and restaurants in the city. I tried the paratha w/ chicken curry and ordered it to go. The wait was a bit long, but I wasn't too bothered by that since it was a busy night. However, when I got home to enjoy my meal it wasn't what I was expecting. The chicken curry was mostly liquid and very little chicken. But the worst part about having little chicken was that the chicken pieces was mostly bone, and I only got a little bit of chicken from the bone. After tasting the curry there were so many bone fragments in there that I had to constantly spit them out while eating. I finally tried the paratha, I was feeling hopeful with the paratha because I really like paratha from other Indian restaurants I've been to. After trying the paratha, it was so hard to chew and I had to soak them on the curry just so they would have some softness. I knocked off 3 stars because of these issues, and gave 2 stars for the location, cheap prices, and ample items to choose from. This food truck has potential to be better, but I had a terrible first experience.

I've only been twice so far (in a span of 3 days), but everything we've tried has been top notch. Their paratha with chicken curry is my favorite so far. The chicken curry tastes completely homemade and comforting - probably the best Indian chicken curry I've had in St. Louis. Their dosas are also really well made. How everything is all made in a food truck is beyond me but I have to give major kudos. If you're in the CWE area, please stop by because no other Indian brick and mortar restaurant anywhere nearby will beat this.

Service was a little backed up around dinner but we got our food pretty quickly. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant and some seating outside for warmer days. I don't dine out as often as I used to, and sometimes it's necessary to get a cheeseburger. Of course I would never attempt to make a burrito in my own home. I wouldn't have visited Seoul Taco today, except that another restaurant I intended to visit, nearby, was closed. I'd read on the app that it's sometimes randomly not open during posted business hours, and wouldn't you know, that turned out to be the case today. Did the owner decide he'd rather go fishing? Is he in jail for a crime that would be considered reprehensible even by Grove standards? I'm not into spreading rumors. Ask someone at Pie Guy. Oh wait, you can't. This location of the local Korean fusion chain appeared to me like a beacon at the east end of the eclectic business district. It's in a weirdly nice building that may have been purposely designed to attract gainfully employed young people. The entire block, consisting of at least two apartment buildings and multiple storefronts, has the design language of a circa '08 Chipotle. If you wanted to, you could actually live in an apartment above Seoul Taco. Imagine how convenient that would be. I knew I should have tried harder in college. The burrito here is an especially generous serving, the fact that it consists primarily of rice notwithstanding, but the tacos might be the thing to get. It's a perfectly fine serving size, and the emphasis is on the meat, as it should be. Right, Puff Daddy? The Seoul Tacos come with your choice of meat, spring mix that's probably from a bag, some sort of sriracha-mayo mix and that might be it. I'm not familiar with the Street Tacos, and in fact I wasn't aware that they existed until just now. They might have more of an attitude. I toyed with the idea of getting a quesadilla, which is never bad, even if you get it from Taco Bell. Instead, I went with the Nachos, for a little textural contrast. I got one taco in addition to the nachos, because I hadn't had one in literally decades, and I figured it might be useful as a point of comparison if I visit any other restaurants that serve tacos. The nachos were surprisingly beef-forward. Rarely are you presented with an entree that has more beef in it than you expected. I felt like I was in a Wendy's circa 1983. For anything with beef in it, you pay a surcharge that, depending on the item, is almost enough to purchase an entire meal elsewhere, so I guess that's the least they can do. Meanwhile, there's not much cheese. Should it not be the opposite? By definition, nachos are chips and cheese. You don't even necessarily need the meat. Was the person who made this on drugs? There's a dispensary nearby. You're bombarded by the smell, if you park at that end of the street. For the taco, I went with the spicy pork, which might be the thing to get. The beef is great (ahem), and I suspect that the surcharge has as much to do with the taste as the food cost (they could just give you less of it, or jack up the price of everything else), but the pork is arguably just as good (with all due respect to the Honorable Minister), and it has the rare distinction of having a spice level appropriate for an adult of normal intelligence. You can actually taste it. If I were to return, I'd probably get the Seoul Tacos with the pork, even if money were no object. Like, if I won the lottery. I was delighted to see that this place has cookies, and of course I felt obligated to try one, as part of a balanced diet. They don't seem to be freshly baked, and they cost too much, but they're great. If I'm not mistaken, one of them was a matcha chocolate chip. Clearly, it was designed to appeal to the kind of person who would pay a premium to live upstairs. I went with some sort of salted caramel--like a chocolate chip cookie, but with caramel instead of chocolate. It was ginormous, tasty and probably very unhealthy. It had a texture not unlike those soft batch cookies they had to pull from the market because the trans fats would cause your heart to explode. If I ever die, it's their fault.

I ended up going so long I thought maybe I should put a summary:…read more - great local place run by family focused on food and hospitality - incredible empanadas (chorizo was my fave) - big servings, plates offering variety - loved ropa vieja & the salad with chimichurri feta A friend just introduced me to what is likely to be a new favorite go to place -- Havana on Euclid. I have seen it a few times but was always on the way somewhere else or some strange time of day. So glad Gabriela got me in the door. I should say I have a special place in my heart for Cuban food. As a kid a seminal food experience was a party at the home of an uncle's neighbor when I was 6. The neighbor invited our family to join a celebration of a child's birthday and I tasted new flavors the first time. As an adult I became close friends with someone who's a great cook and happens to be Cuban, we've even gone to incredible Cuban restaurants in NY, Miami, etc. Honestly, I worried Havana would not live up to my expectations HOWEVER that fear was unwarranted. Having dinner at the bar at Havana, felt like having dinner with friends. The kind of friends who check in to make sure you are happy but don't want you to feel rushed. The owner (Tamara) and family waited on us and made sure glasses didn't empty and that flavors and temps were on point. We decided to get the happy hour empanadas -- I love empanadas and similar foods from a wide range of cultures. There were three different ones we shared. They were all good but I really loved the chorizo one! The black bean one was really good too and the chicken one would have been great if I didn't have so many to compare with! Ropa vieja is a traditional Cuban dish and I decided to go with it for the down home comfort I know it to bring. The plate had that slow roasted beef, rice, black beans, yucca and plantains! I really wanted to eat it all but couldn't possibly. The black beans alone would be reason to return! It was all amazing. Gabriela had the Cuban Breeze Salad and says she has never gone wrong with that, or the Cuban sandwich or anything. Chimchurri infused feta was so intriguing and sounds so fresh that I have to go back. Besides that, I want to check in on the family.... Such good people! I left saying I will be back and the prices make it clear I should go sooner rather than later!

First off let me state I spent 40 years in Florida and have eaten some amazing Cuban (mostly small…read moreplaces, not just Columbia House). Additionally, like many ethnic foods, taste is highly subjective (mainly, was it as good as mom use to make?). That being said, this place is just OK. Prices for food were fair, food was average, and service was subpar. The lechon was rather flavorless, but the bread, from Tampa, not surprisingly was great. They acted a bit confused when I asked for black beans and rice (not congri). Like I don't think it was a menu item. How? How is black beans and rice not a menu item at a Cuban restaurant? They did serve it to me and it was decent, but it was like it has to be made special, just weird. Finally, the iced tea was served in a tiny glass and there were no refills. As for the service, they are not what you would call attentive. It took a bit to get our menus and then water, but the food came fast. However, after that, we never saw a server and had to find someone to get our bill. A few tweaks and this might be a place I would go back to, but as it is I'll keep hoping St. Louis gets a Cuban restaurant that I want to go to.

The spider roll was unlike anything I've ever encountered--in a bad way. The soft shell crab was mushy, grainy, and very off-putting. None of the fish seemed to be cut properly. The red tuna placed on top of one roll was sliced so poorly it wouldn't even stay on the roll. The white tuna nigiri (normally my favorite) had tough sinew running through it, making it nearly impossible to chew or swallow. I have never had to spit out sushi before, but I did tonight. The eel nigiri was also poorly prepared and wouldn't hold together--I was shocked it was served in that condition. After a $90 dinner, I've definitely learned my lesson. I hope this was just an off night, but unfortunately I won't be returning.
