For a fun evening, take in an Adele Wolfe Burlesque & Variety Show and you'll never be…read moredisappointed. Adele, producer and accomplished dancer, always has a special group of guests to entertain and titilate your fancy. Adele likes feathers and they look good on her and you will be able to see a great deal of her behind the feathers. She will have a new costume to start every show and they will compliment her form and moves and your imagination - perhaps a silver wolf or a bird of paradise, always new and nice. Her guest performers are fun and provide a variety of special burlesque entertainment. Perhaps you like hula hoops, or a black wolf with all the moves, or a WWII soldier - you may have seen these outfits and many others on Ms Wolf's guests and they always come off to reveal the treasures that lay beneath. One of the highlights of every show is the gorgeous guest bellydancer, somehow managing to look exotic and beautiful, seemingly expending little or no effort, as she dances, glides, shimmies and teases. There is always a surprise at the Adele Wolf shows: perhaps Adele's mother will make another guest birthday or anniversary appearance; maybe she will think up another game of contestants taking the panties off the clothesline with, what else, their mouths; and always prizes that will have the guests in stitches. You will want to return to see who the next MC will be: a good looking fifth grade teacher or perhaps a cross dresser that will take your breath away, you never know. And, not last or least, there will be the tall person, dressed in black, quiet but the ever present Beaver! who does the hard stuff like pulling numbers out of a hat or holding the hat in a provocative way for another guest to draw the numbers. You will leave with a bit of wispy bit of smoke curling about your mind about who this dazzling auburn haired beauty really is. This is Adele Wolf's Burlesque, always fun, always a class act done with style and grace!

The Oklahoma Sooners are one of college football's most successful programs. The Sooners have won…read moreseven national championships, all of which are recognized by the NCAA and all of which were won after the poll era began in 1936. At the time of writing this review, Oklahoma has the ninth-most titles all-time. Among current Big 12 teams, they're No. 1. OU won the national championship in 1950, 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1985, and 2000. Three coaches were responsible for those seven titles: Bud Wilkinson (first three), Barry Switzer (second three), and Bob Stoops (the last one in 2000). Wilkinson and Switzer both repeated with Wilkinson winning back-to-back championships in 1955 and 1956 and Switzer winning back-to-back championships in 1974 and 1975. Combined, the trio were responsible for a staggering 36 conference championships (Wilkinson 14, Switzer 12, Stoops 10). From 1953 to 1957, Oklahoma won 47 consecutive games under Wilkinson. That 47-game win streak still stands as an NCAA record among Division I FBS teams. Wilkinson also had a very impressive bowl record of 5-2. Impressive because all seven bowl games he coached were either the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl, both officially classified today as New Year's Six bowls (top-tier). Back then, in the 1940s to 1960s, it was much harder for a team to qualify for a bowl game because significantly less bowl games existed. Only the best of the best college football teams had the opportunity to play in bowl games. To NFL fans, Switzer is known for coaching the Dallas Cowboys and winning Super Bowl XXX in 1996. However, he had even greater success on the college level. Before becoming head coach for the Sooners in 1973, Switzer served as the team's offensive coordinator for seven years. Switzer has become synonymous with the wishbone offense which was highly-effective under his command. Switzer, Jimmy Johnson (Miami FL / Cowboys), and Pete Carroll (USC / Seattle Seahawks) are the only coaches to win both a college national championship and an NFL Super Bowl. Elite company. Stoops' title was won during the BCS era. Stoops' 2000 OU team went a perfect 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the Big 12. They defeated BCS No. 2 Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl to win the BCS National Championship for the 2000 season. For a time, Stoops was the highest-paid head coach in college football (only to be eclipsed by Nick Saban). In 17 seasons at Oklahoma (1999-2016), Stoops never missed the postseason. He is the only coach to have won all four BCS bowl games: Fiesta, Orange, Rose, and Sugar. Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at Owen Field has a seating capacity of 80,126. Also known as "The Palace on the Prairie," it's the second-biggest stadium in the Big 12.

Harpe's Dance was able to help us out, they paired us with our instructor Liz, and it was a match made in heaven. She helped us select from a few of our favorite songs and put together an adorable swing dance to Ray Charles' "Hallelujah, I Love Her So". Working with Liz was an absolute pleasure. We spent every lesson laughing and having a great time, and we always left breathless and with huge smiles on our faces. At our wedding, everyone was blown away when we started twirling and twisting instead of the slow revolve everyone expected. We received so many compliments and we'll be talking about this for years to come. We can't wait to come back for weekly classes, who knew that we could dance? Liz knew!

As I sat on the new lawn, only 100 feet from the new stage and 200 feet from where my mother was born in my grandparents first home in the old city center Czech neighborhood, I admired the clarity, excellent precision, and beautiful sound of the Czech musical program: the Slavonic Dance of Antonin Dvořak, and later the incredibly rich tone poem "Vltava" from Ma Vlast by Bedřich Smetana, lifted me to join their spirits. Our Czech family heritage lives, and Oklahoma City has a jewel it should appreciate more in this Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Maestro Mickelthwaite added his quirky and entertaining leadership and kindly noted that we, the audience, were all sitting on the very heart of the original 1890s Oklahoma City (remember, it was only 3 square miles back then, not the 600 square miles we suffer from today!) And he pointed outward to the west side of the park where the old historic Czech Hall is still standing, ready for the opening of its Beer Garden, and a new program of music for our city and lots of Polka Dancing for our children (ages 2 to 102). And it is the wealth of musical talent and experience from these members of the Oklahoma Philharmonic who will contribute to that new music venue at the Czech Hall of Oklahoma City, Lodge Laska. In thinking about the symphony, I can't help but to wonder about my ancestors…read more.. Under the Habsburg dynasty in Vienna, my old family contributed to the fabric of the city for centuries. While Mozart composed works of unrivaled and unprecedented beauty-- the likes of "Symphony No. 25," "Lacrimosa," and "Dies Irae"-- and later Strauss, famed for his classic waltz piece, and likewise an ode to the city's famed Danube, my ancestors proudly called Vienna home. They watched the city rise to become the heart of culture in Europe, and they remained in the city until nearly a decade after World War II. Now, here I am in a place that is the polar opposite of Austria's esteemed capital. The Oklahoma City Philharmonic certainly leaves something to be desired. While anything "Oklahoma City (insert cultural venue here)" makes one want to pinch the city on the cheek and say, "oh, that's so cute!" it still leaves a cultural void and vacancy for the would-be attendee. Their schedule is quite sporadic and erratic, and performances are relatively far apart from each other. This is in contrast to the New York Philharmonic, where musicians perform frequently and almost year-round. Sadly, it seems that musicians in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic need to request a night off from their shifts at Starbucks to perform on the occasional night they do have a show. I do give it two stars for effort, and being a step or two above what one might expect: "A Night With Toby Keith: An Orchestral Experience of a Homegrown Maestro"...or "Blue Collar Opera: Featuring Larry the Cable Guy and Brett Butler in a duet of 'Libiamo ne'lieti calici', Bill Engvall singing "Habanera" and Jeff Foxworthy performing 'O mio babbino caro'." While it seems to have managed to stay around, this organization needs some improvement, but methinks the local market will not support an expansion.

Review #58 Live on…read morethe Plaza Festival: Location: Plaza District, NW 16th Street, between Classen Ave and Penn Ave. From 1624 N. Blackwelder Ave, OKC, OK 73106 along 16th Street to N. Indiana Ave. Time: The "Live on the Plaza" Festival is held every 2nd Friday of each month, from 6-9pm, sometimes until 10pm. Parking: Well, lets just say it's a major pain to find close parking in the Plaza on any Friday night, but especially the second Friday of the month for this art walk. Most of the spaces are angled on each side of NW 16th Street and some are blocked off for the vendors and food trucks. The parking lot across from the Lyric is reserved for those attending theatre performances. So most people have to park in the neighborhood areas next to people's homes. There are some parking spaces behind The Mule for $2 for 2 hours during the day and $5 in the evening. Info: The Plaza District holds a free arts walk event where the art galleries and businesses stay open longer for people to view and purchase artwork and other items. Most times there are food trucks and live bands to enjoy while you walk the Plaza area, to eat and drink at the local restaurants, as well as listen to the bands while discovering artists. The infamous Plaza Walls, where artists paint murals on the sides of businesses, fences, and alley ways, is a big attraction. The murals are revolving, as the Oklahoma Mural Syndicate invites different artists to paint their inspirations, on a rotating basis. In fact, speaking of the Plaza Walls; the past and present murals are available in print for purchase until they sell out! Check the Plaza Galleries for sales. Every month there is a new theme and the main sponsors are Fowler Automotive and the Oklahoma Credit Union. In April the theme was "Earth Day!" This month in May, tonight, the theme is the 19th Annual "deadCenter Film Festival Takeover!" Posted on Friday, 10 May 2019
