The Med Fair is a Norman tradition. I was very excited to go this year after a 20 year hiatus since I moved out-of-state. I am back and I wanted some nostalgia. While, it is a big event, it really wasn't the same at all. It used to be at OU Duck Pond and it's now at Reaves Park. I'm pretty sure it had to move away from the duck pond because of parking issues, but parking was not much better at Reaves. Unless you go very early in the morning while everything is being setup, expect to park in a galaxy far far away. At least it's free parking. The entrance is awkward. You will see the jousters on the outskirts (this is not a design flaw imo because you can't forget where they are) then you wind around a million porta potties and it's like your switchbacking until you finally cross into a clearing filled with booths. It's not quite big enough for the amount of pedestrian traffic there is but I was relieved that the fair hadn't been reduced to an extremely long sidewalk sale. My favorite part is watching the blacksmiths and other artisans who make stuff right of you. I love seeing the Medieval characters that people dream up and prance around in. I love the Human Chess Board and the Mermaids are still there, even though there is no water for them to lay around in. Food vendors are pricy, make sure you know exactly what you want or eat before you go. There is no price for parking or entry so any money you spend is going directly to food trucks or the individuals selling their goods. read more

What a blast! My family didn't want to leave. Jousting, sword fights, cosplay, ax throwing, blacksmiths, archery, mermaids, turkey legs to munch, 8 stages of entertainment, and so much more. We were suprised there were so many vendors, all dressed up in character peddling wares you don't see elsewhere, from sweet smelling tinctures to leather-bound books..for jotting down spells or potion formulas of course. Don't you dare think this is just some nerd fest, the crowds were from all walks. But the costumed folk were fun to see. My youngest was excited for days to get wear her Cinderella dress. The rest of us didn't dress up, but we already are planning next years costumes lol. Best part of this festival, it's free besides the $5 for parking. And it goes the entire weekend. Similar sized festivals charge for entrance. They do make up for this by charging $5 and up for the hands on experiences. So be sure to bring some cash. Thank the Norman Arts Council for keeping this free to the public and so well organized. The Medieval Fair was one of the best times we've had since moving here. It will surely be a yearly tradition. We've gone on and off for years now, and with good reason. I'm especially fond of the booths in which things are made using medieval techniques, as it's always fun to watch and learn in those booths. The food, for the most part, is typical and somewhat overpriced carnival fare, but it's all part of the whole experience. (If you don't want to eat at the fair itself, by all means do the smart thing and eat before you go. It's not exactly rocket science.) The admission price is fair, and there's plenty of free stuff (the people watching part's my personal favorite) for even the most hardened of old skinflints among us. Fun. read more

Pretty fun times today. It was super hot but thankfully there was a nice breeze. Even though there's no admission, parking in the nearby lots cost $5. Call us cheap or willing to walk but we parked a few blocks up and walked down. There were plenty of ancient practices that included jousting, welding swords and making crafts. Kudos to those who dressed up in garbs as it was too hot for all that. Even though our son is a year old, there was to see. read more

This is fun for the whole family. Finally got to go this year for the first year and I plan on going back every year. Make sure to drive around to find parking because the main lots cost $5 but you can park elsewhere for free. This fair has tons of things to do. There is a playground for kids to play on, face painting and hair braiding ( make sure to scope out all the prices first. They range from $5-$20 depending on which vendor you go to). The kids can get their picture taken with mermaids and become a princess or knight (adults can do this too!!) They have knife, star and axe throwing,"test your strength", camel rides, pony rides, sword making and crafts. There was a vendor there making glass too which was really cool. Plenty of entertainment with jousting, human chess, singers, belly dancers and musicians. Just walking around and seeing everyone's costumes is entertainment enough Plenty of food vendors with tons of selections. Turkey legs, funnel cakes, bourbon chicken, fried cheese on a stick...and the list goes on. Make sure to check other vendors too because the prices are all different. There is plenty of stuff to buy..wooden swords & shields, fairy wings, fairy dust, elf ears, minerals/rocks and tons of medieval clothing. I saw everyone wearing fox tails!! Had to get one for my niece....it was $18! Yes, she suckered me with her pouty face..But it won't happen again!...I hope. Ohhhhh and Dogs are welcome! :) read more

We showed up they had maybe 8 trailers open, no blacksmith no shows going on. They literally ran out of turnkey legs while we where there. Nothing for the kids to do and everything they had for sell was way over priced read more

For the past several years my daughter and her friends have gone to the Medieval Fair and had a great time! The entrance is free but DO make sure and bring some cash for fair food and that random sword you just have to have! The kids especially like the wandering folk in character (some are part of the staff, some are people who just dress up at any chance they get). There are animal rides that are sure to attract the children as well. And if your kid likes to dress up in medieval/knight/princess clothes, this is a must go to! read more
