AVOID Hired a car from Melbourne to Adelaide for 3 days. Car broke down on the morning of the second day. Only part refunded. No replacement car brought to us. 3hr trip in tow truck back to Melbourne. Took over 10 hours to get back after the initial call in the morning. I did the right thing and reported the issue straight away and for that my trip was ruined. read more

We picked up our van and had to bring in back right away because the A/C didn't work. They fixed it and then we drove off to our next destination 3 hours away. When we got there we realised we couldn't lock the van. We called right away to let Jucy know. It took 5 very stressful days for any kind of resolution to be made, and we only got a resolution by driving back to Auckland and back. This took a whole day, but was preferable to the previous two days when we had been stuck on the phone on hold. The phone service was totally useless. At the branch they were able to swap the van, but over the phone they had been telling us there were no vans available. There were several other couples at the branch as well waiting for issues with their vans to be fixed. This set us back on our trip by a day, making us lose a booking. And the time that we had the first van, we weren't able to do things because we didn't want to leave it unlocked. A week or two later we were contacted by a manager who was able to offer a refund for the 5 days we had the unsuitable van, which was appreciated, but I would still never recommend Jucy to anyone. Additionally, the van setup isn't very practical or comfortable, and we wished we had just hired a regular car and stayed in cheap accommodation. It wouldn't have cost much more to do so and it would have saved so much stress and been a lot more comfortable. We have told everyone we know to stay far away from Jucy. read more

DO NOT HIRE WITH JUCY!!! I will never repeat this mistake by hiring from them again. Seems great and like a more reasonably priced and affordable option compared to other companies but was genuinely the worst service from a company I have ever received. It started with a very brief overview of the vehicle, brushing over everything very quickly. We made the mistake of just assuming everything would be as it should be, but wow were we wrong. We start our 3 hour drive north of Auckland and decide to do a big grocery shop before staying the night and are quick to find out the fridge doesn't work. Jucy advertise 24/7 assistance and all they told us was to go buy ice and an esky... We thought this was ridiculous considering we had the van for a month, if we wanted ice and an esky we would have hired a car and bought a tent which would have been much cheaper. Next issue was at the first site we decided to hook up to power. They had given us the completely wrong power cord that doesn't even connect to the van. We called and alerted them about this (whilst we still did not have an adequate solution for our fridge). The person on the phone couldn't even understand the different connections and stated it was our responsibility to go and buy a new cord. This was eventually refunded but significant time was lost calling Jucy, waiting on hold, trying to explain the situation, calling local hardware stores and then driving there and back. We then wasted a lovely afternoon sourcing a new cord which would then only connect to the vans power source if you held it in a certain spot, basically making it unusable. After about 5 days without a fridge we called them again, asking for compensation and a solution as they had not provided us with the service we paid for. We were instructed to drive back to Auckland which would have been an 8 hour return trip. Jucy don't seem to have any care for the importance of time for travellers. This wasn't an option for us as we already had some activities and sites booked in. So we then had to wait another 3 days before we had to source our own mechanic for the fridge. We had to sit on the side of the road and wait 3-4 hours for the mechanic to tell us the whole fridge needs replacing. Jucy then told us this can only be done in Auckland which was well away from us. Eventually we made the call that we can't keep going without a fridge so we made the big detour back to Auckland. Here they scrambled to find another working fridge out of other vehicles. I could go on forever but some of the other issues we had were only one hot plate working, majority of the blinds were not functional so we lost a lot of privacy due to this, given a blunt knife, no chopping board, fly screens ripped so it got very hot in the van as we couldn't have windows open at night or else bugs would flood the van, grey water tank was leaking from when we picked it up which they had apparently "fixed", so we felt horrible with our grey water literally leaking all over beautiful NZ, fresh water tank wasn't full upon pick up nor was petrol. Still trying to dispute with the company to get compensation for this horrific experience. The worst part of it was that every other person we met over the month of our trip in a Jucy had some sort of issue. A couples van roof was leaking in 3 places and they were told to buy duck tape and try fix it themselves. All their bedding was soaked. Another couple had steering malfunctions which I would have thought was a health and safety hazard. Anyway just do not do it to yourself. The time, stress and inconvenience is honestly NOT WORTH the money you save by going with Jucy. read more

It looks like we're the only ones who had an awesome experience with Jucy! At first, I was admittedly turned off by the company name. Jucy? Really? Along a nearby stretch of road, we popped into a few different rental companies to get an idea for prices and such. No quote came close to Jucy's since we wanted to drop off the car in Queenstown. We wanted full insurance too. Our economy car was a Fiat Punto. You won't be winning any drag races with this thing but considering the distance we drove and fuel economy, we were pretty satisfied. Sometimes, it's tough to go with the place with a bunch of negative reviews. In this case, we're glad we did! We had a memorable road trip with no issues at all. read more

Renting vehicles from Jucy was honestly the worst customer service experience I've ever had. We waiting 8 hours for our vans, even though we paid for that full day. Why? Because they'd given all the other vans out that were returned the day before so we were waiting on our day one of the rental for vans to be returned and then cleaned before we could take them. We arrived before they opened at 8:20am and then the last van didn't drive off the lot until about 4pm. Because I got angry (did not yell), I was threatened by two different employees that if I didn't calm down, they wouldn't be able to work with me and I wouldn't receive the last of the vans we booked (we had 5 vans booked for a group). Most of the staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional. The manager was tone deaf and 6 hours into waiting passed around chocolates and then joked about charging people for them. Once we left, half the vans did not have the correct amount (or any) towels, sheets, or blankets. Had we not demanded that someone come out and show us how to use the vehicle, they definitely would not have done a walk through. 2 days into the trip, one vehicles water pump stopped working. We had another had a pipe that broke under the sink that was being held together by duct tape and also another that had wiring sitting on the exhaust so it burned through and caused intermittent issues with the electricity. I will never work with this company again and will shout it from the rooftops just how awful they are. I would like not only an apology for being threatened, but cash back in my pocket for the hassle their staff and vehicles caused throughout the trip. read more

Completely misrepresented as an affordable rental car with old but acceptable vehicles. It's commensurate with Ryan Air before the changes - fees everywhere, zero customer service, horrible insurance, poor flexibility with rentals. It took the driver 1.5 hours to pick us up at Auckland airport (for what is 10 minutes driving to the terminal) and then another 1 hour to get the car once out at the depot. No one seemed to notice this was pretty unacceptable. The costs can be very high for insurance, gas (due to very poor mileage), fees etc and there is a steep premium on New Zealand's speed camera penalty's. Go with Avis/hertz. Save yourself a huge headache. read more

SCAM! I wish there was a negative star option. This place may be cheap but it's a complete and utter scam. I was charged 500 dollars for a dent that was already on the car (and marked in the paperwork they filled out). It's not actually cheap because they slap you with an unfair fee and then when you go to fight it, it turns o ut the only legal recourse in new Zealand requires that you are there for months at a time for mediation so they know tourists can't do anything about it. Super Cheap Cars with Bad Customer service Originally ordered an SUV to drive down the coast with 5 people. Was later contacted by them asking to either have the car longer or change vehicles. We decided to change vehicles and they told us they had a spacious car that held 5. We picked up the car in after hours and were confronted with a tiny car that we could all barely squeeze into. I contacted them , but Jucy is only open between specific hours and there after hours service will only take messages. When they opened in the morning the only thing they could offer us was another small vehicle or a people mover type vehicle that didn't work with dropping it off at a different location. So we squeezed into the car and off we went. If your looking for a cheap car that rolls and comfort isn't your concern this is your company. If you looking for a bit more I would highly recommend another company , this company just isn't worth the hassle. read more

The Wellington Jucy is just fantastic. Please give your business to them if you're down that way. The Auckland Parnell Jucy on the Strand is TERRIBLE. The worker we talked to was very mean and acted like we were the stupidest people ever when we asked to inspect the car before we drove it and make sure she had down which scratches were already on the car. We chose the Stress Free, which is really not stress free because if there are any dents or issues at all, you are charged a $60-75 processing fee no matter what. The worst thing was the after hours drop off. They said to just park the car on the street after hours and leave the keys in their drop box. It was a Wednesday night in the middle of winter, so not a day you'd think would be busy, but there was an event going on in that area and there were no spots to be found anywhere remotely nearby without being towed. If we had been towed, it would've been a $60 fee on top of the tow fee. We eventually had to pay to park it at the hotel and got up early and dropped the car off when they opened. That was the last night of our trip and it was spent getting upset, driving around for an hour trying to find a parking spot, not getting any help from Jucy, and getting up early even though we needed our sleep for our long flights back home. The brakes were also about to go out at any moment. They were super squeaky. One of the headlights was also out, which we realized once it got dark and hard to see (driving in an unfamiliar country with crazy twisty roads). read more

We met with misadventure and the response was prompt and had good follow through, espcially since is was a national holiday. Regarding the insurance Jucy offers, even if one has insurance through a credit card benefit, the cost is very reasonable to take Jucy's Stress Free option, NZ$17. First of all, if something happens, they take care of everything, no third party involved, no claim fee. If one elects Risk Taker, Jucy requires a hold of NZ$2000 + a 2% surcharge for using a credit card. In restrospect, we should have elected the Stress Free. read more

I couldn't find any reviews on Jucy out of Cairns so I'll post it here. If anyone knows of a more appropriate posting location, I'd be happy to move it. We booked a van for our family of 6 for 4 days in Cairns. Our flight was delayed so we arrived for our car after hours. That was no problem as we were given a code to retrieve our keys from a lock box on the building outside. That's where things got bad. The code did not work for the lockbox. We spent 30 min on the phone with their "customer service" department and were eventually given a new code. We were then able to retrieve our key. The van turned out to be a Toyota with 91,000 miles on it. It looked as though they had vacuumed it (maybe) but it was in pretty bad shape (as I guess you would expect for a rental with that kind of miles. We were not told that we were renting such a "used" vehicle. Also, when we chose this vehicle type, we did not know that we would be driving around in a purple and green car with slogans on the side. We were the lucky ones, i suppose as there was a couple that had arrived just before us and did not know that Jucy closed at 4pm. They had no way to pick up their car. They were told after more than 30 minutes of phone calls that they would have to come back the next day. We piled them in our van and dropped them at their hotel. When we returned our van we were told that their "shuttle" would take us back to the airport. Their "shuttle" was a taxi cab at our expense. WTH? The young lady at the counter was pleasant and I believe a bit embarrassed. She ended up paying for our taxi by mistake. Thank you! If you don't mind driving a crappy car and the price matches, then go ahead but I would not recommend this place to anyone out of Cairns. read more

Having used other camper rentals in New Zealand, we were bitterly disappointed with Jucy - who claim to be the fastest growing and most successful. In the mean time they are forgetting their customers and offering shoddy customer services and campers. From the start our experience was tainted. The camper was not checked for any damage so we asked to speak to someone, who was incompetent and badly trained. He did not give us any eye contact and could not answer any of our questions. Items were missing form inside the camper (pans, pots) and the layout inside was badly done. It did not maximise storage and we were often having to climb over each other to get to something. The speakers on the radio were badly blown and clearly not seen to before we departed so we had 2 weeks of tinny music which was very annoying. Any contact we had with Jucy was badly handled and the lack of customer care was an outrage. Upon giving them a letter of compliant on our hand-in the faxed it over to HR and promised would reply back to us within 10 days. 9 months later we're still waiting read more

Arrived in Auckland before 5pm and it took over one hour to get out of the airport. When we called Jucy, at exactly 6pm, we got a voicemail saying to leave a message and wait outside door 11. Needless to say we did not trust that and ended up calling a few different numbers with the help of the info desk at the airport. When we finally got hold of someone, we were told that the office had closed at 6 and that there was nothing they could do for us. We were basically on our own, stranded at the airport. We took a 75$ shuttle to our hotel and have to figure out a way to get the car tomorrow morning. We still cannot get over how bad the service is. We are frequent travellers and always rent cars at airport and never have we had anything close to this happening. Unimpressed and frustrated. read more

The fact that I was not informed that JUCY rentals closed at 5:30pm is my first issue, my flight was delayed 3 hours so by the time I got out of customs it was 5:26 then when I tried to call all I got was an automated service that said if I left my number I would be called back. Needless to say that didn't happen so finally we got a taxi which ended up costing $30 for 5km because they wouldn't pick up the phone/call meback nor was the shuttle I paid for at the airport. Then when we finally got the the rental area I was completely rushed by the employees not really having anytime to go over the contract or review the car properly because it was 5 minutes after "closing time." When I asked about the $30 cab ride I had to take they basically said that it wasn't their problem. Based on my overall experience I will never use JUCY rentals again nor recommend their services to anyone who is considering using them. read more

Very poor customer service. Experienced a break down due to failed brakes on my trip and was not issued a refund when promised, entire trip was delayed and never received a call back despite many attempts. The autobody mechanic stated the brakes were not serviced in a long long time. I would look elsewhere. Apollo, Kiwi Express or Wicked may be a better place to look and I would encourage you to do so. We rented a car at Jucy in Auckland airport, the car was a very old car year 2006 with 139000 Kms when we looked at the picture on rentalcars.com the car was nice, but when we saw it at Jucy, it was horrible. We couldn't cancelled our reservation. Do no rent at their company. read more
