I can absolutely not recommend doing business with them. Pay a little bit more and save yourself hassles and your vacation. 1) Starting with the airport pickup, I contacted them in advance and was told that I MUST call them from the airport. How the heck if you're coming from overseas and not have a local SIM yet? It adds so much hassle. Eventually I spent tens of dollars in roaming and was for minutes in the line. Eventually I was told to go where the hotel shuttles are. Went there waited, waited, waited. Turns out they waited somewhere completely different 2) Yes the vans are old which is ok. But what is NOT ok is how gross they are. No cleaning. Found other people's clothes and headlamps between the cushions. It stinks and the walls are greasy 3) Many things are broken and that's fine where but a safety concern. However, the gray water hose was broken (deliberately "fixed" with duct tape where it was leaking) and leaking at the connector as well. Whenever we had to dump half of the gray water was leaking in the floor! 4) We had a baby and booked a child seat with it. Only afterwards I learned that this seat including the way it was installed is plain illegal in NZ and jeopardized the safety of my baby

When I asked for a refund of the after hours delivery, they refused and said it wasn't their fault. They wanted me to deal with the park and ride (where you pick up the vehicle after hours) even though I rented it through Lucky. When I asked the park and ride staff why they didn't answer or weren't there, they could not provide me a response. Lucky's still would not provide me a refund. This place is terrible. On to the car, the thing was a hunk of junk. When it shifted from 1st to 2nd gear, it felt like someone was running into the back of the car. Don't waste your time or money. Rent from a real car rental joint.

Home from home this is the one for you!…read more Camping in luxury, these vans that are no more than 2 years old (ours was new) are equipped with everything one would need from luxury bedding and towels to all the cooking equipment. Staff are friendly and helpful, took us through all the ins and outs of the van although this was our second trip with them. We drove around the North Island for Christmas! This time we went at Easter from Auckland up to the Bay of Islands. No problem with getting into campsites. This has to be the best way to experience New Zealand.

The Mode one had really low k's (under 120k), newish Toyota Estima (2006 I think?), aux input on the stereo, everything included to cook with, unstained bedding (not like the Spacehip one!), one of those really good chilli bins that actually keeps stuff cold, and a new fit out (it's built out of plywood - kind of like a log cabin at a bit of a push). It was also just plain - you only knew it was a campervan if you really looked in the front windscreen because the rest of the windows were tinted. Very subtle, very good shit!

For the record I made my arrangements with CheapaCampa but this review could be applied to any of the companies listed below as they are all under the same roof and business establishment. They close at 430pm so my family and stayed in a hotel near the central Business District so we could see the downtown area for a little while at least before we left town. The cab ride from the Pullman where we stayed was around 70 to the Apollo/starRV/HIPPIE/CheapaCampa location. The one good thing about the location is that it's very close to the airport. When we got to the location the reception was packed, the check out process was underway for 3 or 4 groups, there were 3 or 4 groups waiting ahead of us. The waiting area was full. I'd say for our particular experiencein checkout it took almost 2 hours. Horrible experience, no one should have to wait that long. (I hate to do it but I'm taking a star from the review just for that) The check out process So many things to go over Insurance More insurance Fill the gas tank Clean it, or you pay to have it cleaned.....worth it. The cleaning is a bit of a trap The insurance is a good idea. overall though having a camper in New Zealand is an awesome way to get around. I think the smaller the better though. All of the campgrounds that you can stop at very from exceptional to marginal. pick the ones that have the things that are valuable to you. That could be laundry, swimming pool, ocean view, hot springs etc. I think having a nice shower a hot tub and a kitchen every other third or fourth day is a good idea. driving in New Zealand is relatively easy with the exception of some of the mountain roads. Again, smaller vans and campers are better than the bigger ones if you can. I highly recommend the hot spring beach. I also recommend doing a little research up front to find the places that you can camp without checking into a campground. They're certain beaches that you cannot camp at. this is mostly due to the fact that there are only a certain amount of parking spots for overnight parking and they're usually full. This is especially true during the busy season. for instance, at one place we had stopped for one night and when we came back later the parking area that we could have parked in was full and we had to leave. Pretty easy to get around and pretty fun to have a camper van.

The person we rented from told us the smell would go away once the fridge gets cold. Guess what, it didn't. We had to return it early because we couldn't stand the smell anymore. *AVOID AT ALL COSTS* We raised these issues with Apollo who…read morereally could not care less. - There was not a single toilet roll in the van. Typically, we have seen one roll be put in the van to get us to the next town. - The van appeared to have not been clean. There was long, dark hair throughout the van, including an excessive amount in the shower drain. - The white cushions at the rear of the van, which lined the back area had mould present. This was present on all of the white cushions with exclusion of the corner pieces. - We were supplied with two gas bottles, both of which were meant to be full. One was full and the other which was empty. - The gas heater would not light and we had to download the user manual to purge the lines and reset the system to get it to work. - The glass which covers the cooktop fell off during travel. At the time we were on a sealed highway and it was in the closed position. - The closer on the top kitchen drawer was faulty. Although it would be in the 'locked' position, it would not stay shut during travel. Paul had to manipulate the drawer to make it stay shut. - The white slider on the main cabin door could not be moved without it falling off. There was evidence of this happening previously as there were chips in it from where others had put it back into place. - The main cabin door handle was extremely stiff to open and lock/unlock. Only Paul could open and lock/unlock the door - The luggage barrier on the upper sleeping area was coming apart - The flyscreen on the upper sleeping area driver side was off and we could not put it back on. - The upper sleeping area was not water tight leading to wet bedding. - The kitchen window closest to the back of the van was not water tight, leading to passengers getting wet. - Storage under the van we not water tight, leading to all of our shoes getting wet. Apollo posted a message on a public board where I had reviewed the disgusting service received stating they were looking forward to helping us resolve the issue at all.....but alas, this was simply lipservice. They took no responsibility, other than for the cleaning, and they told us it was all our fault, as we didn't call their Apollo Connect number, which their website states is for mechanical issues. Ugh. A few years ago…read morewe decided to tour for three weeks in New Zealand and rented a campervan from Nomad. The van was in poor condition, dirty and worn out. It looked as if it was pulled out from a dumpster. Actually we weren't too surprised when the van died on the second day in the middle of a highway because gears wouldn't shift anymore. We called the company and they directed us to a repair shop. We were hanging out at the repair shop for a day but eventually got the van going again. The owner of the company agreed that the break down was not our fault over the phone. A surprise came two days before returning the van. They charged our credit card with more than $700NZD for the repairs. No, they didn't wait until we return but took the payment just in time so that the credit card company would actually process the transaction before we return, and we couldn't stop the transaction. When I called the guy he accused us for breaking the van, which was definitely not true. All of us were used to driving with a stick so that couldn't be a case. Definitely don't deal with them! They rip you off.

I just landed in in another country at an international airport that still has flights arriving and they have gone home for the day. Well, found another local rental car company (ezi Car rental) and got a nice SUV. When I called Jucy they explaind that they would be kepping my $166.00 deposit because I did not wait in the airport area till the next day for them to return. My advice is don't go cheap, you always pay more in the end. To Jucy, tacky way to get money by closing early and burning your customers.
