How I lost $2000 dollars with Greystone rental (I should have gone to the casino)…read more
Rented a skid steer with brush cutter attachment from these guys (Oct24).
$2000 for one week. Good price, right? Well, they delivered the equipment Friday about mid-day and within two hours of running the hose for the attachment starts continuously popping out of its connection. I discover the quick connect on the machine has a huge crack in it (see picture below or email me). I think to myself "No big deal it's a machine, stuff happens". Despite my attempted optimism the first day of my weeklong rental had been reduced to 2 hours of work. The next morning (Saturday) the mechanic got a new part put on and I was back up in running about 1130am. Eazy Peezy right? Well, 3-4 hours later
(2-330pm) the track rolls off the machine (see picture below or email me).
Again, with one angry customer chewing me out about the lack of progress being made on his 8 acres of land and a now potential second customer excited about his 2acres of land being cleared within a week's time, I attempt to remain optimistic about the situation. With the second day of my weeklong rental being reduced to 4hrs of work I could only tell myself "It's a machine, stuff happens."
I let the mechanic know and he says no problem he'll be out the next morning (Sunday). The next morning instead of the mechanic I receive a call from the owner of Greystone telling me the price of new tracks for his machine and that I would be responsible for the parts and labor to replace a "completely destroyed track". (see picture and video below or email me of the condition of the rolled track)
An obvious back and forth ensues, which i won't bore you with but ,In summary, he claimed the track was destroyed and would need to be replaced (again see picture/video or email me). He would not only keep the full payment for the week but also bill me for any expense beyond. I would be charged for Friday- Monday use of the equipment ($1000) plus parts and labor to "replace" the track.
But, get this, he would do me a favor and not charge me for the additional equipment he would need to bring from his shop to preform said "replacement."
So, Monday rolls around (lol get it, rolls) and the owner enters my customers land and, quite conveniently, forgets to text me when he arrives so I can watch them "replace" the track. He does text me as they were leaving though. I hurriedly walking down to the land and was able to notice and record that they had simply rolled the track back onto the equipment and driven it out of the woods, up a hill, maneuvering through trees, and down a ditch at the entrance. Pretty good for a "destroyed track" huh?
(see video below or email me to watch them drive it out of the woods)
Over the next several days the owner gave me the run around about waiting for his service manager to assess the damage so that he can tell me how much I would be charged blah blah blah... I reached out to the owner that even though id only used the machine 6hrs I had no issue paying the weekend rental fee of $1000, after all they had brought the equipment out to the land for me and I had used the equipment for those hours ( a little over a half tank of diesel). But the remaining $1000 paid should be refunded to me.
I thought that was simply good business and fair.
To this he never replied. ( see pictures or email me for text conversation).
I have still not received a receipt from my original booking or a revise receipt for new charges I am apparently responsible for. My $2000 is of course gone.
And that, my friends, is how I lost $2000 in 6hrs with Greystone rentals. I should have went to the casino.
My honest opinion DO NOT rent from these guys. If there is any maintenance type repair or malfunction needing to be done while you have the equipment, they will stick you for the money. In my case A rolled track, doesn't not happen all the time, but is a thing that can happen on a job site. It is by no means an unusual thing when operating equipment and to charge every customer that rolls a track the cost of brand new tracks is ridiculous.
Save yourself the headache and just rent from somewhere else. The prices here are cheap for a reason.
Greystone has now hired me to inform others about my negative experiences with their company. If anyone would like more info about this situation I have additional pictures videos.
Email me anytime and I will respond quicker than Greystone responds to its paying customers
