We got three bids to replace windows in our house that dated back to when it was built in 1989. The…read moreold aluminum ones were hard to open and weren't energy efficient. The seal on one of them had failed. A few other windows had been updated with frames that didn't match other windows, so there were 21 in all. We contacted Clark County Public Utilities for recommendations of programs that would qualify for an energy efficiency rebate. Josh is the owner of Absolute Windows & Doors. He did the estimate, thoroughly explaining our choices. When we first met him, he seemed very detail oriented, and he assured us that he would personally do the work along with his employees. We were delighted when his bid turned out to be the lowest of the three. When they started the job, it was immediately apparent that these are professional craftsman. They set up scaffolds on our one-story house to give them quick access to a whole row of windows at once where the garden below is uneven. The windows were mostly installed from the outside after they fastened tarps on the inside the prevent debris and rain from getting into our house. They were also very careful to avoid tracking outdoor dirt into the house. At the end of each day, they did a thorough cleanup. They also planned the job to do one section of the house at a time so that we would be minimally inconvenienced. Unlike some companies, they were willing to include in the price the removal and reinstallation of our window treatments, and that was flawlessly accomplished. The end result is beautiful. One detail that Josh recommended was to provide framing that would offer a more uniform surface between windows that were close to each other. This looks much better, and isn't something we would have considered. His workers are polite and are easy to communicate with. They work hard and fast, and it took a day less than Josh had estimated.

The company has been very busy and sounds like they've turned over a crew. After a few months from natural expansion and contraction as they were installed in summer heat there were some large gaps around the windows, large enough that wind was coming in from the outside so concerns of water coming in were a fair assumption. I contacted the owner/rep who did the job for me originally to come back out and reinspect and likely reseal the windows on Jan 15. Admittedly there were a few back and forth, some missed appointments and eventually we got there with a really solid explanation as to why they would only reseal the interior and a solid commit to coming this last schedule attempt. So while the work was pretty good and install time was fast and friendly they may have rushed the job juuust a little bit last summer and the follow up to get warranty work was a challenge but not insurmountable and the crew that came to do the touch ups were A-mazing and took a good amount of time to do it right and check any flaws from initial installation.

Key fob go to Harry's Key Service on 117th. Specifically the 117th location does vehicle fobs,…read moreothers do not. They've got high tech machines that copy the key part flawlessly. They have several very kind and informative employees. It turns out, the key copying is only part of the trick for the key fobs, as (at least my) cars have a radio sensor on the ignition that checks if the fob part is approved (programmed). If the key part matches for my car, it'll turn radio on but won't kick ignition over unless the fob part is programmed. In my car's case this was a set of steps such as insert old key, turn on for some seconds, turn off, insert new key, turn on off several times, then it programs it in the car. The people at Henry's explained all of this to me made it very clear that I am welcome to Google and try and do the fob programming myself to save money, or they can try it, or they can order a fob that's more reliable than the flimsy Amazon fob, and if none of those work it'll take an actual dealership unfortunately to get the thing to program. And, they have TONS of key designs to get inexpensive copies of your house keys!

After finding some significant rot to the plywood underneath, I decided to have the front of the house resided with hardie board and replace the rotted plywood found along the way.
