I took my wife's 10 year old Mercedes C300 to JSN primarily to determine if they could provide comparable service to Mercedes without the Mercedes price tag. The car had a front-end vibration, which was assumed to be an out of balance front tire; however, it later turned out to be bad and needed replacement. Since the car needed a battery change (5 year old AGM battery), asked JSN to also quote replacement of the battery. I left the car with JSN to do an inspection and get a final quote. The JSN "Lead Service Manager" later provided a link to the quote via a text. The "Service Advisor", who I initially dealt with, was very knowledgeable and professional from intake of the car until the car was released. Unfortunately, the Lead Service Mgr got in the way and really screwed up an otherwise typically okay car repair experience. However, the quote was an issue: price was the same or more than the Mercedes dealer. The front tire quote was $300 for replacement of one tire, which was reasonable for a run-flat tire and similar to Mercedes' pricing. The battery replacement was $520, which was more than Mercedes by about $100 and more than Ford, who provided a quote a few months earlier, by over $200. I called and asked the Mgr why the price was so high for the battery replacement. His response was very defensive and said it was the labor cost because Mercedes has a lot of extra associated diagnostics to perform and access to the battery was very difficult because it was installed in the trunk, which I knew it wasn't in the trunk because I keep a trickle charger on the battery when we leave town for extended periods. That created a little tension with the Service Manager, who insisted it was in the trunk. I knew right then I was just going to get a line of BS from the Service Mgr, so didn't push it. Since the car was already in the shop and wife needed the car, I ate the higher price and agreed to the repair. This was in the morning and JSN closes at 6:00 PM. No update was provided by the Lead Service Manager until about 4:30 PM, which was after I had already texted him a few minutes earlier to see if the car was going to be ready for pickup before closing time. When I arrived at JSN, near closing time, to pick up the car, the parking lot and maintenance bays were all empty. The Lead Service Manager was the only person at the service counter and he was on the computer, busily internet shopping for tires for the only customer in the building (I still don't know where that customer was parked). My wife was outside in my car waiting for her little Mercedes and all I wanted to do was pay for the repairs and get going. I was about 5 feet from the Service Mgr, but he didn't even acknowledge my presence at the counter. I would have been happy with a "Be right with you" or a nod, but he stayed buried in the computer. When he did pop up for a minute to answer the phone on the other side of the room, I very politely asked if my car was ready. Response was, "I'm sorry, but you will have to wait your turn. I'm busy with a customer." Funny, I thought I was also a customer and just wanted a courtesy hello and to let my wife know when the car would be ready. With no other options I waited about another 10 minutes until his customer was through shopping (there were no transactions happening, just tire shopping). When I finally became the customer, the Service Mgr acknowledged that the battery was under the hood, as I had mentioned, and the remove/ replace was not as difficult as originally expected, but the higher quoted price remained on the invoice. I was in a hurry to get going, so I paid and got a copy of the invoice, which I didn't look at (other than bottom line) until the next day, when I noticed the invoice did not list the battery detail, just "Battery." I sent an email to the Service Mgr and asked if he could send me the battery info (type, specs, warranty, etc.). Never received a response to my email, so a couple days later I stopped by the JSN shop to get the battery info. Again, the Service Mgr was the only person at the counter and told me the battery info was on the invoice and said if it wasn't that I could get it off the battery myself. I told him I didn't see the info on the invoice and asked if he could print it out for me. He reprinted the invoice and sure enough no info on the battery. He was able to find the info in the computer and rather than printing it or writing it on the invoice, he gave me a pen and read it out (basic info that could not be verified). On top of it all, JSN didn't clean off the mounting lubricant from the new tire and I got to hear my wife complain about a dirty tire. Bottom line, the actual mechanical service performed on the car seems to be satisfactory, but at Mercedes Benz prices it should be. The Service Advisor was excellent and customer friendly. The Service Mgr needs customer service training 101 and avoid technical questions. Will not be returning to JSN. read more
