Funny story. I am married to a Chinese man so I speak a teeny tiny bit of Chinese. I like to freak out Chinese people by breaking it out once in a while. So while that was fun, they did me one better and taught me a few things to say back to my husband. A few things that both freaked him out and maybe turned him on- after he stopped laughing of course. As for their service, it's good. They can be aggressive with the cuticles and way underestimate how high maintenance my sensitive skin can be so that is why I'm not going all five stars on this place. The quality of the manicure is pristine and they aim to please. In case it wasn't clear, they speak English well too. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest J's to a friend but it's not my favorite manicure experience in the whole world either. I do think it's a good value for what you pay. It's my go to in the area. If you have cuticles that don't take kindly to being cut just mention it and they'll do their best to be gentle. read more

On Monday night @7:33 I stopped into the usual place I go tanning, because I was 3 min late they wouldn't let me. My family and I happened to drive by J's salon and saw an open sign. We called they were not in but said to give them 15 minutes and they would come. Sure enough 15 minutes later Janet and her mom I presume showed up and let me tan for 20 min for $7.00!!!!! I really enjoy going to J's Spa to have my nails done, I have been going to Janet for my nails for a long time. I also get pedicures, waxing and use the tanning facilities when I am there! I can do everything I want to all in one place it's great! Got a full leg wax here 2x. Plus side: She knows what she is doing and is pretty quick! Con: She was inconsistent. I went back a 2nd time and she left wax on me, seemed distracted, and the room has lots to be desired compared with the rest of the salon. I agree with the other reviewer that I will keep looking. They definitely have the best prices around, but corners are definitely cut to achieve this. The owner is the only person I've ever seen there and while she does a good enough job, she would certainly be much better if she was able to focus on one customer at a time. Also- she used the same pair of nippers on my friend and I and the same nail file. I'm not sure how sanitary that is. I didn't make a big deal of it at the time and I haven't seen any ill effects from it, but I probably won't go back only for that reason. read more

This was the worst experience I've had at a nail salon. My friend and I walked in and hesitantly sat down as there were four other clients and only two women working. Two hours later we left and I was missing a small chunk of skin out of my big toe. Not to mention one of the ladies who worked there had her son with her. I felt bad because he just wanted attention but he was in my friend's personal space touching her. I finally told him to stop right there in front of his mother because she wouldn't. The gel polish started chipping within a few days because it wasn't done well. I was highly disappointed but didn't even want to go back to have it fixed because it would probably take an hour. Fortunately my toe healed and did not get infected. Needless to say, I would never go back. read more

If there was a way to give zero stars, I would. I have never had multiple terrible experiences at one place. It is my fault for going back, but I tried it more than once and it was a huge mistake. So as far as waxing, I walk into J's and there is no one there on a random Wednesday. The place was empty. Finally a woman walks out and I can't even interact with her because she barely speaks English. Finally I get the point across that id like my eyebrows waxed. She says she will call Janet, the owner in. This is a super nice gesture, since I didn't have an appointment. So I was willing to wait. Janet arrived in no time and took me in the back to do my brows. She proceeded to move at the speed of light slathering hot wax all over my face (yes, it got in my hair and on my cheeks). Then she continued to race through the procedure. The end result was me left with completely uneven brows, size and shape. I'm really not sure why she needed to rush but whatever. It was terrible!!! Now for the pedicure experience! My friend gave me a gift certificate for $50 to J's. We decided we would get pedicures together. We made appointments, and when we went (it was a busy saturday) it was packed. They had all of their staff doing manicures, hair and pedicures for a bridal party. My friend and I waited a good 20 minutes just to sit and have our pedicures. We both ordered the total package pedicure which includes callus removal, hot wax dip, leg and foot massage and polish. Well my friend's lady was taking her time and start to finish the whole thing took her about a half hour. No exaggeration, my pedicurist took ten minutes doing mine. She forgot to do half of what was listed in the treatment and painted my nails like she was blind. I waited 20 minutes for my friend to finish hers, when we had the same treatment done!!! And it was $50 for all of this!!! I am appalled at the service and I recommend no one be subjected to the horror that is Js nails! read more

I've been the J's Salon many times and was always a little less than impressed with the service. This time, however, takes the cake. If you go, make sure you DO NOT get Janet. Emily and Sue are kind and friendly, but Janet is rude and pays little to no attention to her customers. She was constantly texting while doing my nails and as result, they're lopsided, the coat is uneven and she made my cuticles bleed. I usually go to J's spa for manicures and pedicures because their prices are the best in town and I know Emily and J will always do a good job. I wanted to write this review because I had such a good experience this past Friday when I decided to get a massage (only $45 for an hour!) and a Brazilian wax. Sue was amazing while working on my muscles. She checked in early on to make sure the pressure wasn't hurting me (I know sometimes Asian massages are harder than people are used to) and she was great about working on my back. I sit at a desk all day so I build up all kinds of tension that causes me back spasms at night but I felt like a wet noodle after getting off of Sue's table. J did a virtually painless job of waxing me. I think she might have used cloth strips, anyhow I was amazed because it hurt a lot less than the two salons I went to in NYC most recently. I was on a business trip and decided to get a pedicure. Despite the previous reviews I decided to try them out anyway. Other than having my feet soaking for 45 mins (due to limited staff) the pedicure was not rushed or messy. I wanted to try a massage but the tech was by appointment only. If I'm in the area in the future I will visit this place again. You can't beat a 60 min massage and pedicure for $68 bucks!!! read more

I have been coming to J's Spa for 3 years now and am one very loyal happy customer! Janet never disappoints. Coming from outside of NYC where most nail salons employ an upwards of 10 people, Janet manages to do it all with just a few other girls on staff. You really can't beat the combination of quality and competitive prices for tanning, waxing, massage and mani/pedi's. I have found that Janet and her girls do THE BEST GEL MANICURE IN THE AREA (and have a great selection of colors for every occasion). In my experiences at other salons waxing can be painful and awkward, but at J's Spa, Janet always makes me feel comfortable and at ease. Janet is super friendly. She spent a good amount of time on my pedicure. However, someone came in to have a nail fixed and she left me to fix this person's nail. So I sat and sat and finally my manicure was complete- in between brief phone calls. She buffed my nails before the shellac which I am not a fan of. I should've said something but I didn't. That's my fault. But the shellac chipped that night argh. The atmosphere... Eh.. It is clear that some serious thought went into her lamps and accessories. However, there are piles of papers behind her. I kept thinking, " Why can I see her tax documents?" Seriously, who wants to think of the Federal Government during a mani-pedi? So in summary, if you want a friendly atmosphere, reasonable rates, and have some time to spare, this is the place for you. The WORST!!! My daughter talked me into trying it because she knew the owner. It was FILTHY. I wanted to walk out but my daughter was embarrassed and begged me to stay. The owner worked on both of us, switching back and forth. She was on the phone the ENTIRE TIME, yelling at someone because her power was about to get shut off. We had shellac and instead of soaking my nails in remover she DRILLED the shellac off. It was one of the most painful experiences I have ever had. The manicure itself looked good... for a day. I have had shellac last weeks and weeks... but this was peeling by the second day. I wanted to report her salon. Surely she must be breaking any number of codes with her filthy premises and complete disregard for client care. But again, my daughter knows her and "feels bad". Went here to get my gel polish changed before going to a wedding; they rushed through it, first drilling the gel off entirely (not just the top layer), even though I explicitly said they were soak off. In doing so, they drilled down way too far (it hurt!) and ruined my natural nails and scraped up my cuticles (I had scabs afterwards!). I asked them to stop to and use acetone to soak them off, and finally they understood, but the damage had been done. There was no one else in the salon but they still rushed at break-neck pace and did a terrible job. Also, the tables and UV light boxes were absolutely filthy. Beware! read more

The professional services of the staff and fair prices have kept my business for many years. The work is efficient and well done, the staff is kind and caring. I especially appreciate when the staff is attentive to me and speaks English to the other staff so I feel included. I have been to J's Spa often enough to have witnessed some of the customers that have given poor reviews. Many reviewers seem stressed out before they come in and seem impossible to please. It is unfair to project their personal issues onto the staff because they can get away with it. your issues cannot be solved by a spa, no matter how good they are. if you are a Princess, please go to someone who is trained for royalty such as yourself. The time scheduling has greatly improved and the staff has become more attentive. the people who write negative reviews rather than directing suggestions to the staff, cause the staff stress and is reflected to loyal customers. Never go to this place. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I saw all the terrible reviews of this place but went anyway because it was the only one around for a bikini wax, and because I wanted to support the local place. When I started the wax the phone rang she came in and brought the phone back with her, then proceeded to continue with my wax! Even though I kept saying you can wait. It was actually the most uncomfortable experience I've ever had. When she finished - after .2 seconds - i.e. The fastest and least enjoyable experience ever - I stood up to leave and noticed dirty underwear crumpled on top of the filing cabinet. The place was disgusting. As I was leaving she then proceeded to charge me $20 - a ridiculous price for the very few minutes she took and the fact that she was also taking a call. I just came from the "J" spot because I wanted a quick brazillian and didnt have an appointment with a more reputable salon..first impression of this place is low budget..really low..after sitting in thier "lobby" for about 15 mins..while watching the owner work on two females nails..impromptu gestures to me to follow her to the back room..NOW PEOPLE. .believe me when I tell you this room was not what you would want to be in when someone tells you to take off ya clothes..no hooks for your clothes..no chair..not even a table to put your clothes, purse, whatever on..I REALLY didnt want to put ANYTHING on the floor..the actual wax table had dirty used towels on top which was a real concern..then she rolled on some paper over the dirty towels..WITHOUT ANY GLOVES proceeded to wax me..and not in a gentle way..but like she was taking out frustrations..my "regions" were red and raw..didnt wait for wax to cool a bit..straight from jar to "regions" (I think she burnt my skin)..to top it off..she left wax all insided places where wax shouldn't be (I took pictures)..then walked out the room and started back on the waiting women's nails (hands just came out my regions ungloved)..NEVER EVER again..had to come home and dig wax out my regions..skin is still red..this place should be ashamed to call themselves "a spa!" read more

If you want a relaxing massage this place may be fine and there are not alot of choices in the area. I walked in to the spa, talked to a woman there who sounded like she might know what she is doing. I made an appointment with her the next day. When I came they had switched the masseuse and she did not provide a deep tissue message. What a great find! I received a top-notch facial from Debbie, who is a licensed esthetician & then got a french gel manicure from Janet. It's not the most glamorous spa I've ever been to, but it's clean, and everyone was very friendly - and more importantly, the services were on par with big-city spas -- but for a much lower cost. Debbie uses Dermalogica products for the facial and let me know what product she was using for each step and why she chose it for my skin. I will definitely go back! read more

Today was my first time going to this place. I went in for a manicure and Pedicure. They showed me a price list 33.00 for Pedicure was totally fine with that. The Spa Pedicure was the worst I ever had and I've had a lot. The girl who did me was all over the place! Doing nails, and trying to do my pedicure at the same time. She was going to do a parafin wax on my feet. She brought over a cooking unit and was going to have me stick my feet in it. I was like I'm suppose to stick my feet in that. I'll pass. IT WAS DIRTY! the entire place was gross. My feet don't even feel like I got a pedicure, I was going to get a manicure also, but decided to pass. Literally the worst service ever!! I went and sat down didnt really ask me what i wanted to get done and started preping my nail for acrylic. Then i said i wanted acrylic and she kept pushing me to get gel. Then when she was preping the nail her filing was really rough.... When i went home later a few of my nails were burning and had to take it off... I called multiple times asking for a refund and to speak to the manager and I kept getting blown off...Literally the worst customer service in my life and they are way over priced.... I went to get a brazillian here. I made an appointment and had to wait (not a big deal). I got into the spa and it looked really nice. When I was brought back to the waxing room, I immediately felt anxious. They use a dirty, dingy room that looks like nobody has thought of it in ages. Nothing is orderly and there are boxes lying around in the corner. Then when the wax started, the woman was, thankfully, pretty speedy. However, she didn't wash her hands, wear gloves, or sanitize the area. She used way too much wax, left a lot of hair (even after plucking), and left wax on me. I had to ask if there was anything I could use to get it off! Then she immediately went out to start working on someone's nails.... and she didn't wash her hands. She had my hair sticking to her fingers. I ended up getting lots of ingrown hairs even though I used a salicylic acid cream. I never write reviews, but this was such a bad pedi/mani experience I felt that I needed to caution others. I wound up trying this place b/c I had limited childcare & the place I normally go to could not fit me in- so I was a walk in to this salon. They were able to take me right away- while I was soaking my feet- who I presume was the owner- came to the pedicure area & started accusing her co-worker of not collecting $$ from customers, stating that she is sick & tired of being taken advantage of,etc..needless to say, it was not very relaxing & then she was the one who started my pedicure! She was painful, insincere, continued to "air dirty laundry" while working on my pedi, took short cuts, took a phone call for 8-9 minutes, & charged me more than price n the book. Initially, I almost discontinued & got up & left, but the moment passed & despite all of this I so desperately needed to finish within a set time to pick up my child that I just passively cooperated with a poor experience. Afterward, I noticed that my big toes were filed in a crooked fashion & my manicure was similar- she literally spent 6 minutes on my manicure ( not including polish) and charged me $17!! I will never go back there! And, I can't believe anyone would work for this woman after seeing how publicly degrading & humiliating she was to her staff. read more
