My experience at this facility in Monticello was very disappointing…read more During the initial consultation, the staff member I spoke with dominated the conversation and seemed uninterested in hearing important details about my dog's needs. Before even examining him, she immediately focused on what she described as matted fur on his ear and tail (which was actually very minor) and suggested she might not be able to groom him properly because of it, making a much bigger deal of it than necessary. She kept speaking over me and was ready and willing to argue after I said "were just here to drop our doggie off for grooming, not to hear your personal assessment". She went as far as giving us further unsolicited advice afterwards regarding a 'possible abscessed tooth' based on a puffy spot under his chin. He is 15 years old and most of his teeth are bad and he has several fatty spots, thanks for giving us your opinion, however, we know our dog very well. When I tried to inform her about his numerous moles (crucial for safe grooming), she dismissed my concerns and only acknowledged the one visible on his head. This lack of attention and unwillingness to listen felt controlling and unprofessional. Then she felt it was necessary to explain herself which is when I walked out and allowed them a chance to prove themselves. When my girlfriend picked our senior dog up by herself, this person felt it was necessary to apologize to my girlfriend for rubbing me wrong or something to that effect. Ultimately, the grooming service itself was subpar. The haircut was very poor - definitely the worst cut he's ever received. To make matters worse, she called and convinced us to allow her to trim the fur on his tail, citing that 'it didn't look right' to her. My girlfriend agreed, only to discover later that she had removed nearly all the hair from his tail - including the long spritzy fur on the end that no groomer has ever considered removing over the past 15 years, and other sections that weren't even matted. Additionally, he did not receive a bath afterwards, nor were we given any printout or documentation summarizing the services performed. We expected a haircut, nail trim, and anal gland cleaning. I can see that the haircut and nail trim happened. Blind faith regarding the anal gland cleaning though. While this was the second worst overall grooming experience my dog has had in this town, it was certainly the worst haircut. This person has control issues or is extremely biased to a point of being unprofessional. This is the point that I begin do all of this myself from now on, out of necessity.

Evan updated us mid-stay and she had calmed down after her first day. We were so grateful to know she was in a safe and caring environment, and will definitely bring her back if we're in the area again.

Here is the real truth, after reading this maybe you should wonder what is really going on with…read moreyour pet??? My experience ended with my dog dying. My dog has been gone from us for a year now but the pain is still there. I should have know when I first walked in because the place was disgusting. I get the fact that pets are being taken care of there but the smell was horrible. I made the mistake of leaving our family member with him(Reggie) because I had know other choices never again. My dog's behavior changed while in his custody he was responsible for my dog self being.. I should have been called the moment he noticed his behavior changed we should have been call(Hey your dog is not doing well you may want to get him to a Vet). Not him when I got there is when he noticed his behavior because he was not taking care of checking on him like a professional care taker does.. He came out and told me "something is wrong with Achilles". My dog could not move, could not walk I had to carry him to the truck and he passed a day later. If a person leaves their pet with you there are expectations we expect you to meet like feeding, well being they are your responsibility at the time you take that leash. So for me I wouldn't leave a dead rat in his care, he needs to be shut down!!! If you really love your pet leaving it with him put their life in jeopardy!!!

I'm from a bigger city and usually use Rover but checked for the Decatur area and there weren't a lot of options, plus they were all pretty expensive. Looked into Almost Home and the price was great! We felt confident when we dropped off our dog, they were super accommodating - offering to look up our pet records at our vet as we didn't have ours with us. They were friendly and really seemed to enjoy spending time with animals. If we're ever in the area again and need pet boarding, I would definitely recommend Almost Home!

A couple of…read moredays before we were supposed to pick up our dog she called us while we were out of state and sounded very weird and just told us our dog had peed on himself and she gave him a bath. Why would she call us to say that? We picked him up and he looked half dead. We didn't notice anything strange until we got home and I noticed one of my dogs pads had been ripped out of his paw and on his back side of his hip he had distinct bite marks into his hip and he also had other bite marks on his leg and she never told us. Had she told us we would've gotten back quickly and taking him to the vet. She tried to claim my dog did it to himself , but my vet said there was no way. She wouldn't deal with it and even blocked me. I would never trust this facility if you love your dog. I never thought anything would happen to mine. I have plenty of pictures from the vet as well and I was going to take her to civil court, but my dog passed away eight months later and I was so sad that I couldn't even deal with it. Once we picked him up from there, and had him taken care of at the vet, he was never physically the same again and he was terrified to be left alone. I spent the next eight months of his life while he was miserable, taking care of him and carrying him around. The owner just kept trying to lie to me until she blocked me. Please don't take your babies here!!!!
