The 'garages' are on concrete, and a big corner ceiling heater blows hot air to the building. When the big garage door open, it brings a lot of cold 'freezing' air to some of the customers/vendors inside. Many of the vendors have Washington license plates, and the Interstate Bridge is 16 minutes or so from the fair. Some of the vendors drive as far as Happy Valley, or Hillsboro to Hood River. There's plenty of parking in the fields. The customers can walk from one building to the next, to shop with their families, and back again when they decided what they want. People can bring their dogs on a baby buggy or on a leash. This is a place for families to gather & shop and eat or listen to music (inside a garage).

There is a Community Hall with crafts and food items on display. To the North - in the gym area there are drawings and photographs on display. There is also the football field/main stage area where a huge concert is held on Saturday of the fair. To the West - there are food booths, vendor booths, games, and carnival rides. Beyond that are the animals brought for display and sale by local residents. To the South - parking in the fields. Between the Park Stage area and the carnival rides are the floral exhibit building and the 4H craft exhibit building. Love this Fair and the fairgrounds it is held on. The people running it are friendly and helpful. It's great to see so many families spending quality time together at the fair. Many of the food vendors are local families with food establishments in the area.

I really liked this orchard…read more Living in Portland MAINE, i'm used to some pretty fantastic U-pick experiences and this one was right up there. One awesome feature at Hood River U-Pick that I have never seen in Maine is many picnic tables and hammocks sprinkled throughout the trees. This was an excellent and fantastic feature for young and old alike. It gave the whole experience the feel of a family picnic outing, eating and hanging out together while picking local fruit. There were also singles reading comfortably in the hammocks. Taking the opportunity to commune with the bees and the fruit trees. Nice job Hood River U-pick!

They made sure to pick out the right horse for her and for a beginner she actually took control the horse and did not let it take control of her. People have to remember that horses are animals and that none are perfect, so whoever is reading this definitely plan a trip out there , enjoy the outdoors and have a good time :-)

Felt like it justified the money we paid to get in. I saw this display highlighting this local woman who was one of the first female authors from the area. I was excited to check out the book and went to the gift shop to get it. Not there. I asked the woman working and she blew me off and walked away mid-conversation to go sit down again like it was a joke. I'd much rather support the museum than Amazon. Is anyone listening? Why wouldn't you carry this book?

Back in California, you'd have to pay just to even park at somewhere like this. There was plenty of parking available when we came on a Saturday afternoon. They also have a cute little ice cream stand where you can get lavender ice cream and lavender lemonade. I'm not a big lavender fan in my food but the ice cream was actually quite refreshing, especially in the warm sun! Because this farm is up in the hills, it seemed a lot warmer and less windy up here. They have a lot of outdoor seating and some outdoor games like cornhole so it makes for a great place to hang out. The shack in the middle has drinks and charcuterie boards to buy. They are perfect for snacking, making pies, jams, and jellies. The orchard is relatively flat, making it so easy to walk amongst the trees. There are no hills to climb, just easy access to the trees and cherries! They have dwarf trees, so cherries are within reach for everyone, even the kids. This is a family owned business, and they welcome families to the farm. They have a petting zoo, tractor rides, and a picnic area. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Located in Mosier, which is just one exit past Hood River (exit 69 on I-84), the best cherries are from this area. Mosier is a high dessert, so it gets lots of sun on their open fields and hills. The scenery is breathtaking with views of Mt. Adams in the distance. At just $2.50 a pound, grab a bucket and pick away! Piatt Famiky Farm is just 1.6 miles from the exit, up on Carroll Road. They are open Friday-Sunday, 9am to 6pm, while cherry season lasts.
