The layout, the selection, the people working the counter, it is all just a great experience. Now, smaller bookstores like this one tend to have smaller selections, but the Book Vine is more than happy to special order anything you would like. They keep those special orders behind the counter with your name on it. The book Vine is so aptly named as it not only sells books, one can also pick up a lovely bottle of wine as well. They have a special (closed doored) area of the shop dedicated specifically for grapes masquerading around as wine. So, you can ideally plan a lovely evening of books & drinking something I know you Yelpers enjoy. The shop itself is split up into two levels, 1st floor has books, wine, magazines, and also the checkout counter. 2nd level, has comfy chairs to sit and read the used books that are stored up there. It is a great place to go and relax. I would imagine that this is a great place for a book club to have its regular meetings as well. We went to SOS Catholic charity at the recommendation of Goodwill to donate couch cushions. As we…read morewere putting them in the bin, a tall,​ slim, balding, 60's white male came outside and immediately started yelling (yes, YELLING) at us​​​ for putting the cushions in the donation bin saying that they would have to pay to get rid of them!​ Their sign only said they wouldn't accept electronics. He continued berating and attempting to intimidate us (2 older women). We felt threatened. He took one of the cushions and literally THREW it at my sister.​ ​​We loaded the cushions back up and as we were getting back in the car we heard him say to another volunteer "f***king people". This behavior was very disturbing and entirely uncalled for. ​If there is any question as to the validity of this statement, St Mary's and SOS personnel can pull the video recording on this date at 12:20-12:40 pm. I certainly will never go back to SOS to donate or shop. ​

His Cherokee-based services include chair repair and re-gluing, stripping, refinishing, parts replacement, color matching, chair caning etc. Tim also has an artistic side, of which Gayle and I recently discovered and enjoyed at Art on 16th in Spirit Lake. Gayle immediately zeroed in on a whimsical box made by the purchase was quickly made at a relative bargain. Sheryl was also nice enough to wrap it up for suitcase travel and safe arrival at our Pleasant Hill home in California. It definitely puts a smile on our face whenever we admire it. There's more of Tim's cool wall sculptures, decorative boxes, and furniture on display at Art on 16th right now. Materials include exotic woods, and veneers, colored lacquers, metals, and found objects. I'm sure that we'll be back next summer to be tempted by more of this art that seems like a whimsical cross between postmodern and art deco.

He often hosts groups or families - email him ahead of time so that he can plan on you, or just drop in. The workshop is right in the store and Leonard is iii eager to show his skill and knowledge of kaleidoscopes and the art that he puts into making them. We got to watch him turn some pieces the lathe and assemble a larger kaleidoscope as well. There is a small retail section to the store where you can purchase your own kaleidoscope to take home too. We really enjoyed our visit here and recommend it to anyone passing through the area!
