I had the dealer tell me that I needed a service done and brakes replaced but it seemed very expensive compared to the prices I was expecting based on what I saw online. I called Joyce auto and they took me the following day. The service was done at a price that was more reasonably priced and they felt the brakes were at 50% and didn't need to be changed. I took my Ram truck here to get a quote to fix the A/C. They told me there was a $200 diagnostic fee I approved the fee. The quote came back at $3,570.00 CRAP!!! I told them no way and returned to pick up the truck. They billed me $520.00 and had every Excuse as to why it changed from the original dianostic fee I was told it would be. Overlooked front directionals not working and a msg on the dashboard: "Service air bag" unnoticed. But worst when I went in to make an appointment for an oil change and the A/C not working the employee at the counter wrote up a work for a leak check and to have the freon evacuated and recharged for $300 without looking under the hood. I knew the compressor wasn't working b/c I had stopped at another repair shop with a sign out front: "Recharge while you wait." If I had that done my air conditioning would still not be working and I would have been out $300. Apparently the guy at the counter is so arrogant he believes he can make a diagnose without getting up out of his chair. Zero respect for this female customer. After bringing my car to Joyce many times over the years, it seems their prices have sky rocketed while service has tanked. I recently had to get towed in after my car wouldn't start. After not hearing back for about a day, I called them up and was told they couldn't fix it and I'd need to go the dealership instead. Said it was a warranty issue. Okay. I went up the road to Lakeland Automall who quickly figured out it was a blown fuse. So not a warranty issue but they had me back on the road and for far less $$ than Joyce charged me just for a failed "diagnostic." Won't be back, look elsewhere! read more

I got a battery from this company thru Roadside Assistance. My battery died. I drove to the shop to get it replaced as it's well within the warranty period and it's 3 years, no questions asked. I have never been treated so badly in my life. The first thing I was told is they don't carry that battery anymore...an issue that could have easily been remedied by ANY OTHER battery brand. They called around and the only thing they can tell me is I can go to Walmart to see if they will replace my battery. I asked for a manager. Lisa, the manager, came in with the most hateful look on her face, never greeted me, never apologized. Just told me I needed to go thru Geico or Walmart cuz they don't carry that battery. I got Geico on a 3 way call and they confirmed it's Joyce Auto that got my money for the battery and THEY need to replace it. And FYI, they carry AC Delco batteries but I guess I got the generic battery for full price. I refused to give in so they got another female named Jessica. I don't know her title because NO ONE introduces themselves or cares to acknowledge your presence. I will/would never give them a cent of business because everyone is miserable and it's a shit show. Yes I got a battery replacement after 2 hours of waiting and arguing and being passed around like a phone book in the 80s. Did anyone say sorry? Nope. The ONLY person that treated me with dignity was the tech that put the battery in. Good customer service is a lost art now. read more

Had a motor replaced($9000.00+} just the short block the old motor had around 60000 and they took the old plugs out of the new motor and put them in the new motor. Drove it a few days had issues with overheating then they said the intake was worked (I would have thought that that they would have checked that since the old motor had overheated but apparently they did not another$1100.00. (Found out from another mechanic there that the guy that done the work had been let go. Then had to take the car back because something else screwed up on it. Would definitely not recommend Joyce Automotive to work on anybody's vehicle read more

Got a coupon for a $50 oil change and vehicle inspection (which is half of what I'd been paying,) so I decided to give it a shot. While waiting in the lobby for my service to be done, I heard 3 different people complain about issues they'd had with their service received. One was an extremely MAJOR issue! I immediately looked up the Yelp reviews and was disheartened by what I found. This made me extremely leery, but my car was already being serviced so there was no going back. I paid and left with everything seeming okay! I live close by, so my drive home was very short. When I started driving it the next morning, my check engine light came on. I did a quick examination of my car and under the hood and noticed that my gas door was open and the cap was loose. I hadn't gotten gas in more than a week (and I'm always very careful to shut it properly,) so I know this had to have happened during the oil change and inspection. When I called Joyce, they said that I could bring it in but I'd have to pay $100+ for the diagnostic if they found that they weren't the cause of the check engine light. When I brought up the gas cap thing, the man I spoke with said it was possible that they checked it during the inspection, but he couldn't tell me for sure. I wound up taking it to Advance Auto Parts where they happily diagnosed it for free. It came back that it was because of the gas cap after all. I'm now going to have to take it somewhere else and have them clear the check engine light because Advance Auto Parts wasn't able to do that. The bottom line is, I had multiple red flags during my service appointment, and then with the check engine issue, I feel even less confident in their customer service and car servicing abilities. I will definitely not be bringing my car back here and would caution you to be careful if you choose to take your car to them! read more

My son's air conditioning went out and I am new to Lakeland and had no idea where to go. I found Joyce Automotive and after reading reviews gave them a call. They got me scheduled quickly, diagnosed the issue and called me within a couple hours with the resolution. I needed to have the compressor and all components replaced. To keep costs down they said they could just replace the compressor but at the end of the day it made more sense for me to replace the components as well. They were in line with what I expected to pay as I had to do the same thing over 10 years ago on another vehicle. Super nice staff and to my surprise they had the job done a few hours later. I took my vehicle in to Joyce Automotive to check electrical on a few components. After three days, two times in the office and three phone calls The work that was asked and what was performed was not correct. Over the phone I asked to speak with a manager or the owner and I would always be placed on hold and then I would always get some excuse about my inquiry and why I cannot speak to a manager. Within 30 minutes of the last phone call I receive a text that I will be charged thirty-two dollars a day storage fee for everyday payment is not received. I went into the office within an hour of that text to try to get clarification on what exactly they did for my vehicle. Again, I was denied the ability to speak to a manager or owner. At this point I wanted to just be done with this whole situation so I decided pay and get my car, but first I had to literally beg to get a line item work order of work done, at this point the lady up front rushed into the back to speak with the owner and they rushed and put together a list of things to try to say they performed on my vehicle. Again, I was fed up and wanted to leave and move on with my day. After paying, they gave me the keys and I decided before getting into my vehicle I would do a look over the vehicle just in case. Unfortunately, it was a good idea to do so, they broke the control panel for my seat controls for the driver seat. I popped the hood to just look inside and make sure everything looks ok. My reservoir for coolant was bone dry and my oil was seventy five percent empty. One of the line items on the work performed was "checked fluid levels". I change my own oil and keep track of my fluids and can say I know that the levels good before bringing it into Joyce. I went inside to discuss what I found and was told to leave. I had to call the police and file a report about my broken property and with police presence the owner finally talked to me. He denied that he did any wrong doing and said my techs know what they're doing and would never break anything or leave fluids like I found it. I noticed the owner snuck out back and I decided to go to my vehicle and sure enough the owner and the tech was at my car and the owner knowing I was standing there ask the tech about the levels and the tech said he never got the ok from the office to fill the fluids to release the vehicle. The owner was essentially a bully but said so he doesn't have a liability he said he had to fill the oil and coolant reluctantly. He made me wait for two hours outside in the sun standing my by vehicle for him to during that time try to fill it with the wrong oil and wrong coolant. I after confirming finally they had the right fluids I was finally able to move on with my day. read more

Took my vehicle here for a front brake job. Charged me $688 for front brakes. Two months later, they were almost worn down. Took it by there and showed it to them and they agreed and said they were still under warranty no problem bring it back and we'll take care of it. I called and let them know I was bringing it in on my only day off of the week and that if I dropped it off the night before, could they possibly get it done in the morning so I could have it back early. They said sure no problem. I'll order the parts the day before so we can get that done for you they said. It gets to be almost 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I don't hear from them so I call them and they tell me there's nothing wrong with the brakes after initially telling me that they could see they were worn down. So at this point, I've wasted an entire day because they've done nothing. Now they're going to put pads on it and tell me give them 30 minutes. It took them about 30 minutes to do it. And originally they charged me $688.for a 30 minute job I know it only took 30 minutes because I sat there and watched them. A couple of days later, I noticed that the centerpieces to my rims were not on the front two tires. I called and told a gentleman there what had happened and he told me he would get right back to me and never did. Two more days past so I called back and told them that I was missing the two pieces and that they were over $100 a piece because I've already replaced one.They tell me that they spoke to the person that did my brakes and he said that he tried his best to put those on, but could not get them on tightly and that it was a poor design. No offer to buy me two more. All they have to do is go to a junkyard and get them, but they didn't even offer that. Just said it was a bad design and I guess it's my problem if I want to have them replaced to the tune of about $250. These people are straight up clowns. read more

These guys saved me... Tuesday, June 4, 2024. I hit a curb in Lakeland... shredded my tire. Who knew Cadillac sells cars with NO SPARE and they don't go out of their way to let you know this important piece of information. After sitting in 93 degree heat for 2.5 hours waiting for road side service that didn't materialize, I called Joyce Automotive! Had someone there within 20 minutes to tow my car to their place of business. I received a call early on the next morning asking me to approve the $$ for my new tire. They had my car ready that afternoon. This place knows what "customer service" means! Joyce Automotive absolutely gets a 5 star rating from me. Because I chose to have Joyce Automotive replace my tire, there was no charge for the tow - how awesome is that? Their policy is no tow charge if they repair your vehicle! I could go on and on, but looks like I'm running out of room... These guys are totally GOLD in my book. The great customer service was really nice, since 2 businesses had left me on the side of the road, "in the heat", with out a second thought. Used to be the best, but it has since been sold to some new owner who has different priorities. They are very "professional" in the worst ways now. They're no longer down to earth, they now have rehearsed customer service speeches, and they seem to follow standard operating procedures that maximize their profit even for minor issues. My car was hard to start a couple times and I was sure I needed a new battery. I normally do nearly all of the work on my vehicles including pretty serious stuff like changing clutches, but I work full time and like most people, I didn't have the time to do any maintenance at all. I took it to Joyce, confident that they would have my car ready by the next morning for a reasonable price as they have for the last ten years I have been going there. No sir. The cost was a whopping $450 for a new battery! This included some sort of fancy ignition diagnostic service and several other service fees. Why didn't you just start by testing the battery? What in the world could be the purpose of unnecessary testing other than being paid for wasting my time? They test batteries for free at autozone, so anyone reading this review, just go there. I guess I will revert back to doing it myself since no one else can be trusted to do things sensibly. I will sorely miss Bob, Butch, Ed, and others that made this such an reliable, trustworthy shop. What a shame. RIP Joyce, I sure hope Christ includes great automotive shops in the age to come. read more

11/28/23 I took my vehicle in to have it looked at. later that day I was informed that my car's Valve cover gasket set, intake Manifold gasket, Spark plug set and wires needed to be replaced. With a $1,070+ price tag I looked trough my receipts and found that these had been replaced on June 11, 2021. Yes it was 2 1/2 years ago but since then I have only put 15,000 miles on the car. these parts should not have worn out had they been installed properly. The owner; Richard Denton informed the manager that he was not to offer me any discount or compensation for past work; concentrating on the 2 1/2 years. the manager did lower the price down to $937.11. I asked for the old parts and took them to Fatman's on Edgewood Drive today and in addition to my brother in law who was a service writer for Ford and Kia along with this mechanic; they both said that the valve cover set and intake manifold gasket set should have lasted a lot longer than 15,000 miles. In addition I was given an invoice from FatMan's on what it would have cost had I had the work done there and it was right at $300 cheaper. I have been a loyal customer of Joyce Automotive for over 25 years; I knew Jona Joyce personally. This is no longer the service oriented station that I trusted and have been so loyal to because there was trust, honesty, and great service. That is all gone. Ed, Butch, and Bob are greatly missed. Mr. Denton; you have a lot to learn about customer service and doing the right thing for your customer. sometimes it's not about the 2 1/2 years ago when the work was done but the quality of that work and how it held up. I wouldn't even give this establishment one star,but it wouldn't let me do none. My truck was there for a turbo and after it was installed,the mechanic (if that's what you want to call him) started the truck up, it ran away on him. So he shoots a fire extinguisher into the air intake to shut the truck down. Later when he contacted me by phone to let me know what happened he admitted to me that he didn't drain to inner cooler or air to air cooler "in the attempt to save me money"that there was an alternate fuel source that cause the run away. The owner and I spoke about it and he assured me that they would fix it, that couldn't be further from the truth. They in fact didn't fix it, it's still not running months later. I ended up having to have it towed to another mechanic, where now because of there actions is going to cost me thousands in an engine rebuild. So much for saving me money. I started going to Joyce automotive in 2018 after finding them thru AAA. They generally do a good job (Joyce, not AAA). They're able to quote accurate prices and when the work can be completed. Also friendlier than most places. The manager even called me after a visit once to make sure everything was okay. I appreciated that, especially since they had fixed an issue caused by Pepboys. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that same manager had a problem condemning what Pepboys had done to me and my wife. They're proximity to me has changed since 2018, as I have moved to a different part of central florida. That's a bummer because finding quality automotive work is very hard. it's been one year and a half since I've been dealing with this automotive .they don't focus on satisfying their customers needs. my check engine light has been on for over a year and they mentioned it needed a catalytic converter,Barron and new turbo .after they've mentioned it's been fixed and my car is good to go,I've had to return back 9 different times and the problem still didn't get fixed. I went to the Chevy Dealership for a second opinion and they told me that there was still an issue with the car after Joyce mentioned that "I'm all good and car is fixed". What a waste of time .they even put a warranty on the catalytic converter for a year and after bringing it back for 10 times,they still didn't know how to fix the problem .They don't double check behind their mechanic's work.they just take their word for it without any test drives .then when you mention that the problem has occurred again,they don't make time to fix problems urgently because they only want your money .they will rather you reschedule at a different time and use staffing and busy days as an excuse to not be able to get to it right away .they just try to buy the cheapest parts and find the easiest way to fix a problem and it turns out costing more money in the long run.same on going problem .Do Not do business with this place .highly disappointed read more

Service manager Butch and his team at Joyce Automotive were outstanding in their service, professionalism, and honesty. Finding a automotive service that provides one of these is rare, let alone all three. My car was having issues starting, others thought it was starter or alternator, which was a considerable cost. When Butch and his team took a look at it, they tested everything and determined it was the battery and not the starter or alternator. This saved me considerable money on what was expected, almost three times as much. They could have charged me much more with out me knowing the difference.
