After my mother passed away, Josh was recommended by a family friend to sell some of her valuables. He did. But he has not given us our share of the proceeds, and it has been four months. He and his admin claim to be working on it, but I still have no check in hand months later. There seems to be no way to get their attention to deal with this matter. The absolute WORST experience! Completely unprofessional. My communications thru email, text & phone were not only ignored but we were basically ghosted for 3 straight weeks after a piece we owned sold $600 under the reserve. 4 ITEMS HAD A RESERVE. I emailed 3 days in a row as auction was going on NOT to sell this piece, that there was a reserve. I got zero response from Josh or Terry, his director. Auction closed on 4/19, piece was listed as sold. I spoke with Terry that Tues, she said she was going to talk to Josh. She never got back to me, 3 weeks passed & still no information regarding the whereabouts of our art. I would call/email & text Josh directly, zero response from him. What an immature coward! A professional, an owner would call their client to say we are sorry, we made a mistake & here is how we are going to fix it immediately to calm our concerns. Instead, he hides behind his employees who make excuses for him. Every single time I would call Cassie at reception to have Terry or Josh call me, silence! When Terry finally did contact me, our art had been sold & shipped but they were going to make things right. She would disappear again never giving me the amount of compensation I would be provided. It took me showing up in person to try to talk to someone to get Terry to finally call me. On 6/3 I went to go pick up the check & my remaining art & the check was wrong! Josh was not there, she was not there. I was furious, complete incompetence. I tried to call Josh from the gallery & of course it went to voicemail. They contacted Terry while I was at the gallery, said she would correct the amount & send me breakdown. That was wrong as well & she had to corrected it again. You can't make this up! I had another large piece that had a unique book showing the work of the artist that went with the piece & asked where is the book? Oh, we don't show it being catalogued. I gave them the book & they tried to gaslight me on that as well. I sent the book cover to Terry, she never shared it with any one & the day before pick up after all this time she said she would look for it. It was not there on 6/3. Cassie, the receptionist, asked me to email her the cover since Terry did not share it with her & low & behold she found it! TY CASSIE! So you did pick it up & carelessly again disrespected my property. So IMO this is the last place you want to trust with your valuables. There is no accountability, communication & total disrespect of the client & their property. Sadly, the example set starts at the top with Joshua Kodner whose family name built this business, not him. read more

BE CAREFUL! Kodner acknowledged they ruined my LV scarf when they washed and dried it in December. They agreed to reimburse me $250 (their estimate on what it would sell for on the contract after the Feb auction). In April when I picked up other items not sold, they said, accounting makes the adjustment within the settlement statement to be paid April 8. The check was "in the mail" each of 4 times I inquired until I finally in May, I received a settlement for other consigned items but the scarf had been forgotten. They said they would rush me a check for $250 but I got a check for $75.00 with a note "adjustment for cleaning service for scarf"; they knew they ruined it! Joshua's response to my email said they are not sending $175, you can get it on eBay for less. So much run-around; dont expect them to uphold any discussions they have with you even when you send many detailed and summary emails backed by proof of damage with pictures. If there was a star for terrible, I'd pick that. read more

What I received were 4 broken dishes and 10 were stained; secretly hidden in the listing pics. Horrible customer service! I won a bid through Invaluable back in December 2023, I immediately paid for it. I never received anything from Joshua Kodner Auctioneers regarding a payment receipt or an email to coordinate shipping or pick-up. Then I forgot about it, and I assume responsibility for this part. About a month later I sent Joshua Kodner Auctioneers an email to see when this item could be picked up, Joshua Kodner Auctioneers never responded. A few months later a called Joshua Kodner Auctioneers, the lady who answer pretty much laughed in my face and said it was my fault for waiting this long; she mentioned that she was going to ask their warehouse to see if they still had the piece and call me back; I never received a call back. I have bought many items through Invaluable and at other auctions, never have I received this kind of treatment from the auctioneers. Keep away from Joshua Kodner Auctioneers, they will keep your money! read more

Used Joshua Kodner's services and left deeply disappointed. Some of our items were actually sold before the auction which is not what we had agreed upon. Furthermore Joshua did not describe the items being auctioned by their brand name. This made the items less appealing to the consumer. Since the items did not sell at auction, these items were then purchased by Joshua at a SHAMEFULLY LOW PRICE. We were paid about 10% of the value of our items. When it came time to be paid, we needed to call Joshua numerous times. In the end we felt totally betrayed and cheated. Even when we tried to speak with him we could not reconcile the situation.Joshua was neither honorable nor equitable. read more

Recent on line bidder here and whole experience was FIRST RATE.Fast communication -drama -free from start to finish( even with hurricane Isaias bearing down on the area ). The item description was spot on and accurate and complete.They recommended PackMail for shipping and that also was smooth and secure as well as relatively reasonable considering that shipment was to us here in San Francisco. My painting ( a signed Orientalist work dated 18970 ) arrived yesterday and now holds a place of honor in our home Thank you Joshua Kodner and staff.Will definitely watch for future auctions from them. read more

In sum, one of the most unprofessional and dishonest people with whom I have ever worked. Upon the death of our father, my sister and I hired Joshua Kodner to manage his art as we live 2,000 miles away. Kodner estimated over forty pieces of art for us and only ONE PIECE actually sold within the estimate. About half didn't sell and most of what did sell fell far short. (A piece estimated at $200-$400 sold at $25 and a piece estimated at $10,000-$12,000 sold at $1700). So, the pieces that did sell, sold at roughly ten percent of the lower end of his estimate and only one piece sold at the estimated price. I would think someone who has been in business "for a hundred years" would be able to estimate art more accurately. Then, we weren't paid until after several requests and then threats of legal action. The next month, after constant requests on our parts, we were told there was another check for the second month of sales. We have yet to receive this check, which was supposedly cut in October 2021 (six months ago). We also have not received any further accounting of the remaining pieces, including whether they were sold and if not, where they are. The remaining art was simply never accounted for, again, despite requesting this information multiple times. In addition to all of this, Kodner does not answer phone calls, texts, or emails. When he responds (sometimes months later), he gives empty promises of "checking on it." I posted the following review in June 2021: "I would NEVER use this person or his business again and I would recommend to anyone that they stay far away. They are extremely unprofessional and likely dishonest. I cannot say for sure since I have been waiting for MONTHS for an accounting of my pieces but I have yet to receive the accounting or payment. I do know the payment is several thousand (if not tens of thousand) less than what was estimated. Do yourself a favor and stay away." After posting this review, I was contacted by another client of Kodner who told me the same thing happened to him. What's more, this client showed me proof that Kodner threatened him if he didn't remove his negative review. Kodner did not threaten me, but he complained the review was not nice and had his secretary take the blame for the lack of communication. His secretary also said the following: "Again we regret that we did not act in a more timely fashion, but please take into account the gallery did expend the time and resources to market your merchandise." In essence, I should be grateful that they made money off me? Isn't the entire point of hiring him to market my merchandise? Kodner also had his secretary offer to rebate a portion of his commission to remove the review, saying "if you agree to remove the negative reviews, once removed, we will add the additional funds to your check and send via FedEx on Monday." That was over seven months ago. We have yet to be paid the money owed us from the second month of sales, we do not even know if anything sold subsequently, and we do not know what's happened to the remaining pieces. read more
