Hill Auction Gallery came highly recommended as one of the most trustworthy places in South Florida for anyone who wanted to sell family jewelry or heirlooms. I went there with some gold jewelry that had been sitting in a drawer for a long time. The high price of gold had finally gotten me motivated to find a buyer. Turns out that Hill Auctions exceeded all my expectations. The person we dealt with, Shane, was super friendly and helpful. He explained everything in detail, weighed it all as waited, and we left with a check. He also was honest about some vintage costume jewelry, much of which did not have any value, so we returned home with it. But there were some watches that he took and for which he paid a fair price. Let me start off by saying that Hill Auction Gallery is outstanding. I have bought and sold with the major auction houses in New York and London, so I was more than surprised when I moved to Florida to see the professionalism and high number of quality items they auction off at least once a month, if not more often. Everyone who works there could not be nicer or more helpful. At the front desk, you will be greeted by Mia, who is a walking encyclopedia of all the items going up for auction. She is beyond sweet, patient, accommodating and wonderful. Michael Hill the owner, is a very cool, chill, nice guy and so connected in the Florida high net world, that the estates he gets consigned are world class. Although the bar they have in consigning your items is relatively high, you should not however hesitate on anything you may want to get an appraisal on as the gentlemen in charge of giving you valuations will treat your assets in the same way that they would treat a $100,000 painting. I cannot say good enough things about Hill Auction Gallery as I have personally spent a few thousand dollars there getting what I think were terrific deals on some Ralph Lauren lamps and oil paintings I acquired, so I put my money where my mouth is. Other than a few small misunderstandings the pickup, pricing and auction of my parents estate went well. I met with multiple auction companies before hiring Hill. Despite their higher commission rate (30%) I felt that their integrity and following were worth the extra cost. read more

I purchased a very rare item in one of their auctions that would have been difficult to ship. In fact, their listing indicated they would not be responsible for shipping it, and I would have to make arrangements with a shipping company. After I won the item, I contacted Hill Auction and talked to Emily, on their staff. She agreed to ship the item if I sent her the packaging. While waiting for the packaging, Emily safely stored the item in her office and literally babysat it for me, while the USPS took their sweet time delivering the packaging material. Once she received it, I gave her advice on how to properly wrap the item, and she followed my instructions to the letter. I received the item, today, and it arrived in perfect condition. I can't thank Emily enough for taking the time to personally see to it that my item made it to me with no damage. Keep in mind, the original listing was quite clear that Hill Auction would not ship this item in house. She could have chose not to work with me! But she went the extra mile to provide me with assistance. If the rest of the staff at Hill Auction is anything like Emily, this place deserves five stars and your business! I won two small jewelry items in their September sale. The first invoice from Emily left out one item that I won, after I contested, Emily put the second item into my invoice. It turned out that they had an error in the auction and gave the item to another person, which was sloppy on their part. And Emily became rude and difficult from that point and on esp. when I asked to use my own shipping label with insurance coverage instead of using their in-house shipping. She tried to talk over me and even hung up on me. She first agreed to charge $45 for handling in order to ship with my label and I have invoice to prove it. The ironic thing is that the auction catalogue clearly states "Hill Auction Gallery will offer in-house continental USA shipping for $25 plus insurance", meaning they will rip you off if you use your own label. After I wired over a 5-figure payment to their account, Emily changed her story and told me the $45 only covers the packing of the two small items (less than 1.5 inches in size) and they won't help to ship the package. I ended up paying extra $20 for the third-party shipper to pick up the package and ship it for me, which was a very stressful experience. Emily even stopped me from speaking to the owner (Michael Hill) directly. Eventually, I conveyed my concern to Michael via a different staff member when Emily was out for errand. Michael called back and addressed the issue. A couple of months later I called the auction to place an absentee bid. But guess what happened? Emily answered the phone. When I asked to place the bid, Emily didn't say it was late for registration instead, she asked if I bid before with the auction. After she checked the record and realized the "history" we had, she showed her true color again and put me on hold and never came back to the phone. Instead, she texted me to refuse my bids with an excuse that I was too late for the absentee bidding, which is unprofessional and rude. In fact, I called an hour before the auction started and there is no deadline specified in their terms and policy. With much frustration, I called the auction multiple times hoping to speaking to Michael. Of course, my call was never picked up. I also followed up with an email to Michael, but I received no response. UPDATE 1: After the incident, Michael called and tried to symbolically resolve the issue. He admitted that Emily's handling was inappropriate and would like to continue the business relationship. He also asked me to contact him directly via his personal cellphone or email for auction information going forward. All this effort turned out to be a ploy to let me change my initial google review (see update 2). UPDATE 2: When I tried to register for their December auction (auction date Dec 15), my registration was never approved even after I tried to reach out to Michael directly on both Dec 14 and Dec 15. Apparently, he doesn't want my business as he claimed. Conclusion: I rarely give online reviews, and this is not intended to gain any leverage but to share my negative experience with Hill Auction. I have maintained a good relationship with all the auctions that I have done business with except this one. I will not do business again with this auction. read more

I'm finding Hill Auctions to consistently bring in fabulous items and have been purchasing from them for years. Do yourself a favor and look into this auction company. Excellent customer service at Hill Auction Gallery!

I would give no stars if possible. Consign elsewhere !!! As a new client I signed up several days before the Prism auction and was given links to their website bidding platform. At no time was I asked for references or a credit card. Likewise I was never informed by them of a low bidding limit. When I attempted to bid today I was immediately shut out of the auction with a notice that my bidding limit had been exceeded. I was prepared to pay twice the amount that the item in question actually sold for and which would have represented only a small fraction of my bidding limits at other auction houses. The consignor was cheated royally by these folks. Perhaps they attempt to keep prices low for a select group of buyers by shutting out the competition. Never again read more

I have dealt with Sotheby's and Christie's and everyone in between after collecting for 40 years and the difference between Hill's Auction Gallery and all the big names: let me count the ways...! Class, manners, style, honesty, and integrity, and that's just a warm up folks! I work with auction houses on a weekly basis...my experience with this auction house has been very poor and very unpleasant. It took multiple emails, messages and voicemails to get my invoice adjusted to include shipping...and I was then scolded for leaving multiple messages. I'm sorry....they sent the incorrect invoice to me every day like clockwork but found it impossible to reply to an email or voicemail for about a week? (One person even lied and said they had called and messaged multiple times. Sorry, caller I'd shows that was not true) Finally I get the invoice (and after a snarky message or two they send it multiple times to make a point) and pay it the same day and am told my item will ship immediately after payment. Next I get a message saying it will be delayed a week. Unacceptable, rude and unprofessional. There are far better auction houses that are grateful for their customers and know how to treat them. If one is having an auction, either one needs enough staff or to put in place better procedures so customers aren't left hanging with questions while being bombarded with daily reminders to pay. And being rude and snarky is never acceptable business practice. read more

Was very disappointed. Had a few paintings and called to schedule a meeting to see if they have value. The first person I spoke with told me one of my paintings average $2,000 to $8,000. This was consistent with what I saw online. When I arrived for my appointment, the lady (Kristen I believe), looked up the artist on one website to determine their value. The website was askart.com. I could've done that at home - I thought I was seeing a professional who could determine the value themselves not from one website. I wouldn't recommend them to consign. read more
