An instagram search led to Charlie, and we are so thankful that it did. Saying that Charlie went above and beyond for us doesn't cut it. My fiancé and I found ourselves saying "really? He's going to do that for us?" several times throughout working with him. We were torn between getting photos with the beautiful architecture in Charleston or on the beach at Folly. Charlie's solution: "Let's do both!" The first day we were scheduled for pictures the forecast was showing torrential downpours, and I was panicked, but Charlie quickly eased my mind by providing alternatives, and ultimately assuring me that we'd get the shots no matter what it took. His positivity was contagious. His outlook on a rainy day: "I've always wanted to do a rainy day shoot! Your pictures would look so cute with my clear umbrella!" You know when you were younger and a photographer would say something silly to make you laugh? Charlie has mastered that for adults too. He knows just what to say to get you to smile, giggle or belly laugh for those adorable, natural photos. At the beginning of the shoot, he explains some key phrases for the poses so that throughout the process things are moving quickly and smoothly. He brought along his super sweet wife, Valarie, for our first shoot, who came with helping hands bearing hair spray & hair tools. There is no length she won't go to help Charlie & his clients get the best photos. She helps hold branches in the frames, makes sure your hair is placed, and they literally stood on either side of a vehicle and acted as human body shields so we could change into a second outfit. Not only were Charlie & Valarie welcoming to us, they were extremely kind toward our family who wanted to come along and watch, and even snapped a few photos of them for us. We got more beautiful photos than we ever imagined, and made new friends that we never expected to. I explained everything to Amanda, our planner, and she set up a phone call for us to "meet" and really dive into our vision/Pinterest board, which included deeper and moodier editing, more editorial/cinematic look. We also knew we had a friend coming to our wedding who enjoys doing photography and wanted to ask if that would be okay, with it stepping on any artistic toes. I didn't plan on writing this review and forgot to take photos of the photo booth set up. But we got some fun shots I can share. Love the simplicity and modern look of the photo booth printouts. I checked out their website and you can customize from several backdrops and overlays. They selected the Open Air Photo Booth. It's really such a clean set up and isn't bulky. We selected our signs, the person working the booth guided us where to look and CHEESE! Three different shots with enough time to pose for next shot. The photos printed out almost immediately. Another awesome feature I really appreciated is you can print and text the photo link to yourself. So you can share with friends/family or post on social media. The glowing reviews on Google and the gorgeous images on her website unequivocally speak to the talent and professionalism of Heather Crowder and her photography. Additionally, she is a beautiful and delightful person. Earlier this year I needed new professional headshots. I fumbled around the internet trying to find the right photographer for me and then I received a graduation announcement in the mail that included a stunning photo of the graduate taken by Heather Crowder. At that point I was positive that Heather Crowder was my photographer of choice. I subsequently looked at her website and the Google reviews which further bolstered my confidence in her abilities and my choice. I had several email exchanges and phone calls with Heather in advance of my session and all of them were warmhearted and beneficial. I felt well prepared and at ease with Heather when picture day rolled around! I also used the professional hair and makeup artist provided by Heather and she was top notch! Generally, I would much rather go to the dentist or jury duty than get my picture taken but Heather made it a comfortable experience and my images turned out better than I could have imagined! Heather knows how to give directions for the perfect, flattering pose. She also reads body language well and could tell when a pose felt unnatural for me or I was getting tired or too warm. Heather's talent goes beyond the camera. On the day of my session Heather helped me pick out my outfits and assisted me with getting jewelry on, rolling cuffs, etc. I really appreciated having her help me with these details. I also appreciate that she understands branding and knows how to create photos that represent one's person brand. She wants everyone to look and feel like the best version of themselves and she was instrumental in helping me achieve that. I had my photos taken at the lovely Lightbox Studio in the Annapolis Arts District on West Street.
