We've had annual family photo sessions with Hilary for the past five years (and even two sessions…read morein one year!), and she has been phenomenal every single time. She's wonderful with our kids--whether it was a newborn, a fussy toddler, or now more cooperative school-aged kids, she's been able to capture beautiful moments through every stage. One year my younger daughter was especially shy and grumpy about photos, but you'd never know it from the gorgeous images Hilary delivered. She's also great with pets and even got our dog to "smile" at the camera for a few shots this year! We included my parents in a session one year, and Hilary handled the larger family group seamlessly. She also has a great eye for locations, whether it's a tried-and-true spot or somewhere new, and she always makes the most of the setting. On top of that, her pricing is very reasonable, especially since you get to keep all the images from your session, and she's always prompt with delivery. Hilary makes family photos stress-free and fun, and the results are consistently stunning--we look forward to working with her every year.

I love all the photos he's taken of me, my family, and my friends. They are so vibrant and full of life. I feel so lucky that he spends the time (come rain or shine!) at the Hauntway. I had been hesitant that the photos might come across as posed or forced, but instead they reflect authentic family moments. The experience was patient, thoughtful, and more than I could have hoped for. I'd recommend David to anyone looking for genuine family photos.

I reached out to John for some help updating my default professional headshot, and really enjoyed…read morethe comprehensive experience he provided me. We went to 4 different outdoor spots around his studio with distinct backdrops, and for each one we iterated on poses and expressions, and he even picked up on some of my facial idiosyncracies in the process. We then went back into his studio and essentially conducted a realtime review session - viewing all the recently captured shots, flagging ones we liked, and ultimately discussing them until we settled on 2 winners. He then applied some minor edits within Lightroom and within 40 minutes from my initial arrival, I had 2 really sharp headshots which will serve me well for the next 5-7 years. John is incredibly personable and also immediately put me at ease. It is easy to feel stiff or self-concious during something like this, and he made it feel like a real partnership. Highly recommend him and his services. Plus the guy is just fun to chat with.

They blended seamlessly into our wedding party and made everyone feel comfortable, allowing every moment to unfold naturally. From the very beginning, Alison took the time to get to know us, understand our vision, and learn what was most important to us. She truly listened, and then executed everything more perfectly than we could have imagined. When we finally sat down to look through our wedding gallery, we were completely blown away. Every photo is absolutely beautiful. One of the things we appreciated most was how Alison and Amy captured not only all of the big moments, but also the countless little in-between moments that we either weren't together for or didn't even realize were happening. Looking through the gallery allowed us to experience our wedding day from a whole new perspective and brought us right back to every emotion we felt. The photos tell the story of our day so naturally and beautifully, and we'll treasure them for the rest of our lives. We are beyond grateful for the care, talent, and attention to detail that Alison and Amy put into capturing our wedding. Choosing them as our photographers was one of the best decisions we made, and we couldn't recommend them more highly!

I actually found Jennifer after searching online for photographers in San Francisco and her work immediately stood out. Her style felt fresh and unconventional -- more documentary and journalistic than traditional -- and I especially loved her use of black and white photography, which was a big reason we chose her. The day started at our hotel, where she jumped between our separate rooms to capture my wife and me getting ready. Before she had even gotten to our rooms, she had already scouted the perfect location for our first look. The moment was absolutely incredible, and she handled everything; we didn't have to do a thing but follow her lead. That professional confidence continued at City Hall. She has a masterful familiarity with the building. She took full control of the shoot, guiding us as she told us exactly where to stand, how to pose, and where to move next so we could just relax and enjoy the moment. As a photographer myself, I really appreciated her confidence and professionalism. All we had to do was follow instructions and be present. She knows San Francisco City Hall inside and out -- the lighting, the angles, the timing, and the key locations that truly matter -- every shot felt deliberate and it showed. The technical skill here is top-notch-- the compositions were beautiful, the balance of each frame was spot-on, and her gorgeous color grading. We received around 300 images, and the quality is so consistent that I plan to print every last one of them in large format to ensure we have a permanent physical archive. When we received the final package, we were so touched -- she sent our photos on a beautiful USB drive along with printed images, some sweets, and other thoughtful details. It was the perfect finishing touch to a genuinely wonderful experience. If you're getting married at City Hall -- or anywhere in San Francisco -- Jennifer Michelson / A Girl and a Camera is exceptional. Thank you Jennifer! Laura and Junior.

Memorable Photographs in a Beautiful Setting…read more My husband and I are celebrating a very special anniversary, and we love to hike. We engaged Joey to take photos of us enjoying the outdoors together. He suggested Rodeo Beach, one of our favorites! Joey scouted out several perfect locations before we arrived. He met us at 5:00, when the evening sun would be soft. During the photo shoot, he made us laugh to help us be "natural," even though he was recording what we did. Joey took photos of us walking on the beach, sitting on a bluff looking out over the ocean, hiking through flowers - the list goes on. We are thrilled with the variety and quality of our photos!

In our case, we even have excellent photographers and fancy cameras in the family, but capturing our 1-year old as anything but a blur and getting a picture of all three of us together was next to impossible. I had been keeping tabs on Joey's work for some time and when we were ready, I went through his gallery and wrote to all the friends I recognized who he had done sessions with (he's the go-to guy in the City now, apparently!). They unanimously said that he was easy to work with, professional, and caught the shots they were looking for. So we set it up! One of things I was struck by was how easy the logistics were, such as paying the deposit online, filling out a pre-shoot survey that asked helpful questions about what we had in mind, and choosing shots for prints from our gallery on his website. Joey is also affordable and turns the photos around quickly--we were able to choose shots to frame for Christmas presents within a few days of our session. The company he gets prints through was also speedy and the quality was perfect (especially compared to the DIY photo site options I've been floundering with this past year). Most importantly, Joey's documentary style of shooting was the right fit for us. He knows the city and it's backdrops extremely well, but I liked that he recommended we stay in our neighborhood so that when we look back at the photos, we will remember this time in our lives. Plus it made our kiddo more comfortable to be in his own space, playing with his own stuff. I was nervous that it was starting to rain and we wanted some outdoor shots, but it was no problem! We have some pretty lush landscaping in our condo complex that we showed Joey and he lit up, seeing the possibilities and taking some of the best shots of the bunch. And being a father himself, he has a cool, easy-going way with kids that brings out their best. We are totally thrilled with the process and the results and will definitely use Joey again.
