Our son was diagnosed with an allergy to dairy, eggs, and peanuts at 8 months old. We were avoiding these foods for years! We are with Facey and have been seeing Dr. Offengerger for the past 4 years. We never had any sort of game plan or anything progressive in regard to my son's food allergies. Every year he would order blood tests and just tell us to continue to avoid anything containing these foods. For my son's environmental allergies we were told to keep him on Claritin every day incessantly and if Claritin stopped working to switch to Zyrtec and if Zyrtec stopped working to switch back. When my son had a single asthmatic episode, he prescribed my son an aggressive daily medicine that can cause behavioral changes in children. We just felt like there was more we could be doing and we felt we weren't getting any answers. What we were getting was prescriptions. After another years visit with no progressive treatment plan we asked for a second opinion and were sent to his AMAZING. doctor. When we saw Dr. Shapiro, we were told that even though my son had a second asthmatic episode, his asthma is still considered well controlled. We were told that my son absolutely did NOT need to be prescribed the risky asthma medicine(Thank God that after doing research we never gave it to him anyway) and he was scheduled for a food challenge in office to see how his body would tolerate baked goods containing dairy and a second test to try eggs. Also, he does NOT need to be on a daily antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec, only as needed. Today our son passed his egg challenge and yesterday he passed his food challenge for baked dairy!! He can eat eggs and dairy in baked goods!!! This is life-changing for our family. It puts my son on a less restrictive diet and normalizes his life in so many ways! As far as dairy goes- when we go to birthday parties, he can have cupcakes; when we go out to dinner and his cousins are having desert, he can order a treat, too!!! And we will now be able to have pulled pork on King's Hawaiian buns YUM!! And I plan on eating eggs for breakfast every single day for the next month starting with a BIG plate of French toast when we get home! I just wanted to share in case any other mommas are feeling stuck in a rut and to encourage every momma to go with your gut and always ask for that second opinion!!! read more

Spoke to "Lizzy" on the phone when I called in. I had to change my insurance and was seeing the amazing and empathetic Dr Katie Marks Cogan. Sadly I cannot see her anymore due to insurance change but was happy to find a doc with decent reviews. When I told Lizzy I had LA Care she acted like I had covid and just coughed near her. She said "oh that's MediCal". I explained no it isn't it is an HMO (I pay copays and got it through the exchange). She put me on hold to check. Alas no they don't take it per Lizzy. I called LA Care and they called the office and found out they do take it but now are not taking anymore patients. It's pretty sad this office doesn't want to help everyone. Just the people with money. It's also sad the the front office person who interacted with me acts like people who don't have the best insurance don't deserve good care. Shame. read more

From the information I was provided this isn't a doctor that will help you figure out what you are allergic to in a large scale, he will only help you with a very specific ailment. If I could give the doctor and his office more stars I would! I brought my three month old in after meeting with several doctors, and still struggling to figure out what was causing his symptoms. When I brought him in, my baby had a pretty significant flare up of eczema among other symptoms and basically cried whenever he was awake. After working with the doctor for a little over a month, my son's symptoms are getting under control, he is sleeping well and is the happy little boy he always wanted to be. The care we've received has been exceptional and both Dr. Shapiro and his office have incredibly supportive and compassionate throughout this process. Dr shapiro's office staff is absolutely inept and horrendous. They lack professionalism and a focus on the patient/customer. I have been trying to fill an asthma medication for the last 3 weeks. Originally I was told that this prescription was never written by Dr shapiro's office and that they have no record of this ever being prescribed to me, which they now deny they ever said this to me. I have been a patient at his office since 2021after Shapiro took over the practice from Dr Roberts. After having been a patient of Dr Roberts for 30 years, my asthma has been under control by taking this one particular medication. Dr shapiro told me that he rarely ever prescribes this medicine, but if it works for me, he was fine with that. After Multiple conversations with the doctors staff, where I was told multiple different t stories to include: this medicine was never prescribed by Dr shapiro's office, also that I signed a form indicating that I no longer took this medicine, which could not be further from the truth, and lastly no follow up calls to let me know they we're attempting to get a copy of the prescription from my pharmacy with no luck. I had to call Shapiro's office back to see what the delay was as I had made it a second attempt to go to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription. I asked when they were going to call me to let me know they were still needing information. And could not fill it. I have since emailed the RX image to their office. I have also asked for Dr Shapiro to call me and still have not received a call from him. Yea my frustration levels are elevated and I expressed that very firmly with Izzy who was also rude. Clearly no one, including Dr Shapiro, care that I need this medicine to keep my asthma under control. I have now been without medicine for 3 weeks. read more

He ordered blood tests on me WHILE I was on Prednisone for an anaphylaxis episode. Naturally, I got false negatives. He had the rude receptionist call me and say " good news, you don't have ANY allergies. We don't need to see you again" This is after I almost died from walnuts. read more

I went in to see Dr Shapiro and was left with zero tangible information of how to deal with an unknown allergen. I felt like he was gaslighting my observations of the allergic reactions I was having, and then was simply told to observe them and see if "I actually was having symptoms".... Ugh I have never felt so helpless with dealing with a medical issue and would recommend that this entire office work on their interpersonal skills. The visit felt impersonal and quite frankly did not leave me feeling empowered or more aware of how to proceed with my allergies. read more

I go to the front desk and tell them I am getting my shots for the first time there. They tell me to sign in, so I do, then I wait almost 40 minutes. During that 40 min i was once the only person in the waiting area. No one said "hey.... you've been waiting a while, what's your name?" Instead, I got the typical "she'll be right with you" which I'm not sure was even addressed to me actually even though I was the only one in the waiting room at the time. No one cared, no one saw me and I'm sitting there patiently because I'm told "she'll be right with me" and because SURELY the front desk people see me. Nope. When I finally went up because 3 people who came in after me were seen already, it was explained why my sign in didn't process through the system. I appreciated the explanation however it wasn't a glitch. They just weren't thorough. Since I was a transfer, it didn't work. They know how things work there, not me. How am I supposed to know my sign in wouldn't work simply because I'm a transfer? I had been there once before anyway so I'm not even thinking "oh maybe Im not in the system". When I said I was there for my first shot, they should have made sure I was in the system. At least care that this patient is waiting for 40 min in the waiting area after telling the front desk that she is there for her allergy shots which should be a quick in and out. I have a job, I can't be there for that long for something that should have taken 2 minutes. They finally see me and the woman administering the shots doesn't even acknowledge me when I walk in. She's cold and unfriendly. I ended up just leaving because she said I had to wait 30 mins afterwards (which I thought i could just sign a waiver for but the 1st time I needed to stay 30 min). I was stressed cause I had to get back to work and had already waited 40 min. I didn't account being out this long. She didn't give two shits. I didn't want to be there a second longer so I just walked out. It was a crappy experience and I would transfer but this place is down the street from me and I can't waste another copay on an initial consultation with another place. So unfortunately, I have to go back. I'm glad it's just for these weekly shots and nothing else though. For anything else allergy-related, I am going somewhere else. read more

I had an extremely strange conversation with someone from this office just now (forgot to ask her name, but i called on March 25th at 11am, Friday). I called because my baby's pediatrician suggest I give them a call since we recently found out he was allergic to milk and almonds. My husband also has been getting headaches after eating bread so he may have a gluten sensitivity. I had heard about the works of this Dr Shapiro so I was invested in giving them a try. Upon calling this girl answered and I was asked to be put on hold, after about 5 mins she came on the phone and exchanged pleasantries, seemed nice. I requested a Saturday appt for me and my husband since he works during the week, but any day for my baby since I can bring him in any day. She proceed to take down my Information, and when she asked what was the reason we were coming in I said well everytime my husband eats gluten he gets horrible headaches so I think he may be allergic to a few food items and we would like to further investigate barly, bread, peanut butter and those things. And my son has a milk allergy and she then cut me off and said we don't do that type of testing only people with severe conditions or who are anaphalectyic. I was confused because their website specifically say they diagnosed and treat food, eczema and other allergies. I told her I didn't understand, because our pediatrician recommended us to this office. She said yah, idk, we can't help you. He. spent almost 30-45 minutes in going through a very long list of questions and test results. His careful and detailed analysis of all those information concluded a totally different driver of the issue. It is not due to allergy as other doctors told me. Not sure where to start. My fiancé sought treatment from Dr. Shapiro over the course of 5 weeks recently for an unexpected onset of severe allergies to the common things in our world. He was terribly unprofessional in how he handled her visits, even going as far as saying, "holy shit" upon seeing the results of her skin prick test right in front of her. She was terrified. The thing is, she's a strong, resilient woman; one not easily shaken by things that would unhinge most of us. He was consistently inappropriate with how he handled her care and provided little to no insight as to the nature of her issues or how they might be resolved. But it gets far worse. She was billed incorrectly and fraudulently and we have been pursuing the recovery of her money for over two months. For example, he charged her $800+ for a number of visits that never occurred (including a phone call). We are going to pursue him legally to set things right because it is not okay to operate the way he does. Currently there is over $9,000 at stake. Blue Cross Blue Shield is also going after him for fraudulent charges. We feel helpless. After all, what can you do when a physician lies and steals? Anyone have advice? read more

I was a patient for over 15 years. Th doctor and office staff were always very kind. The billing department is absolutely terrible and I will never go back to this office. I've never been delinquent in any billing and after 6 months of no contact or billing statements, reviewed a final notice for over $600.00 owed. After contacting the billing department, they blamed me and said they attempted to call and send invoices. I haven't moved or changed my telephone in years. I had to contact my insurance company and they notified me that the allergy shot submission was sent to them incorrectly and I should not owe this amount. Never heard back from this office and they never contacted me to offer a refund after I had to prove I was correct-and have the insurance papers to prove I've overpaid. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE. I'm really sad to leave this bad review. I LOVE the doctor. He is kind, compassionate, takes time to talk to you. He's the best. Unfortunately, the office policies are really ridiculous. I had an appointment on a Monday morning. I woke up with a severe migraine and was not able to go to my appointment. I called as soon as they opened. I was told that if I wanted to be able to make another appointment, I would have to give my credit card over the phone "in case you miss another one, we can charge your card". I have never missed an appointment, or even been late. When I refused to give my card over the phone, I was told I would not be able to call and make another appointment. I don't understand this policy, since I know doctors always have a waiting list of people to call if someone doesn't show up. read more

This review is simply based on the front desk staff (the Latina lady with black rimmed glasses as well as the heavy-set lady), having said that, Dr. Shapiro is the best allergist I have ever seen! It is extremely unfortunate though that his front desk is managed by such unprofessional staff. Upon walking-in I greeted both of them with a good morning to no reply, and after several minutes they just called out for my insurance card; there is absolutely zero warmth, politeness, or welcoming to their approach... I thought I was at the DMV, or the post office! After looking at my card they said that I needed to ensure that my insurance would pay for any treatments, as they would not be following up with my insurance themselves... they basically wanted to make sure that I did all their work, which would've been OK if they had approach the topic nicely. I was left with actually sour taste after my first experience at this office... Such a shame that the front desk staff's nasty disposition it's so off-pudding. read more

I'd give Doctor Shapiro 6 stars if I could. I've have been a patient of his for over a year now and his office is just as courteous and considerate as they were on day one. I currently visit his office a few times a week for allergy shots and have seen major improvements in my quality of life. Yesterday really did it for me. I went in for my shots and felt ill. I assumed I had an upper respiratory infection. The team at Doctor Shapiro's office found a way to squeeze me in to be seen by the Doctor. He then examined me and prescribed be antibiotics. I came to dr shapiro from another allergist in glendale (I won't name them) I explained everything to them what my problems were (lost my sense of smell for the last 10 years and have sever allergies) I was immediately recommended to get injections every week that last could take up to 5 years to help...after 7 months of injections I have almost no improvement (granted it was only 7 months and not years into it)...I moved to sherman oaks and had to find a new dr. I found dr Shapiro and made an appointment (was within a few days) the staff was pleasant and helpful. I saw dr Shapiro and he made suggestions that none of my other dr's thought of. I was ordered a CT scan of my sinuses to see if I had polyps (again never brought to my attention to consider) Dr shapiro called the same day I got my CT scan and advised me that I had lost my sense of smell and my severe conjestion was due to polyps!!) This was a revalation to me. Before getting into allergy shots and starting all over he prescribed me some medications that were going to help me breathe. 2 days later I was already breathing better than I have in 10 years! I am about to get another medication that will shrink my polyps and I will be free from this nightmare! I've read other reviews complaining about the front office which couldn't have been farther from the truth. I wasn't able to locate my insurance card and Beth said "just get it to me when you can" they didn't hold me hostage and ask for money from me. So that tells you a lot about them. You're going to this office for Dr. Shapiro period. I've seen many doctors and none of them were as precise and knowledgeable as he is he deserves everyone of these 5 stars! You don't need to look any farther and research allergist he is the one you want....trust me! P.s my other allergist would only allow me to get my shots once a week. I didn't realize I could feel normal again so quickly! I have always had pretty small seasonal allergies, but the last few years have been awful. This season was particularly bad and I was having awful breathing attacks where my throat was closing up and blocking air. It started to get really scary, so I decided to see an allergist. I am so so glad I picked Dr. Shapiro. The staff squeezed me in for a same day appointment once I described how bad my breathing was getting. All the front desk staff and assistants are so kind. I called around to a ton of different allergists, so I can safely say their fees are very reasonable! At my appointment, he asked great questions, listened to all my symptoms, and put me at ease telling me we'll figure it out. Long story short, he did figure it out, the perfect medications and perfect system for me! After probably 5 days, everything had kicked in and I felt better than I had in the last 6 months! I could breathe again and none of the same triggers were bothering me! Seriously, I can't rave about this office enough! If you have allergies, go see Dr. Shapiro now! Ok, yes, the wait I mentioned in my check in was kind of awful-especially with a 2 years old...but when we finally saw the MD we loved him!!! He was patient, thoroughly explained what was going on with my son, was actively interested in getting my son off his asthma meds over time, and offered great suggestions for how to work with the things that set off his allergies and asthma. And, he's very accessible. Why the 4 stars? Well, first, the wait; but secondly, the nurses used my son as a training tool. When they came in to remove the allergens they placed on him for the test, one nurse was teaching another how to do it. On an aggravated, itchy, 2-year-old. Not the best idea for a training subject. Nor, did they tell me what they were doing AND, I really didn't appreciate the more senior one telling the newer one how she was doing it wrong. (Before I could ask her to please stop they were done-it was quick but if you're going to train someone on a human-warning them first would be polite). But dr. Shapiro himself-5 stars and beyond and wonderful with kids! read more

I've suffered from chronic hives since 2008 and NOBODY had been able to effectively treat me. I've suffered through the toughest years of my life--law school--with itchy, terrible hives and was told to just take a Benadryl .... Which, shockingly, didn't work. My hives returned after I had a baby and by some miracle I found Dr. Shapiro. Nevermind his courteous, friendly staff; they're wonderful. He saw me the day before Thanksgiving and took his time to really listen to my situation. He is THE FIRST DOCTOR EVER to IMMEDIATELY understand my situation. I almost wanted to cry from relief. Then he prescribed me a cocktail of antihistamines that started working right away. I'll forever be grateful. read more

This office gets one star simply because of one receptionist. At the beginning everything was fine, I called and made an appointment with one girl who was very nice. She approved both my insurances and set me up with an appointment, she told me to stop taking my medications a week before the visit so I did. I trudged through the week of my allergies acting up to get to my appointment and be told by Beth that they don't accept my secondary insurance and I can't be seen. (The other receptionist there looked confused by this.) I thought that was weird because I've never had this issue as I have Medicare and my secondary always works with my Medicare. So I sadly had to leave without seeing the doctor. Now here is where the one star review comes in, I called both my insurances to figure out what exactly to do. BOTH of my insurances said that they would have covered this appointment and that Beth was mistaken in her belief that they don't accept my type of secondary insurance, they said she doesn't quite understand the relationship between my secondary and primary. So I called the office back to explain this to them so I could be seen for my worsening allergies and asthma. Well Beth got on the phone in a huff and would not let me even speak or explain anything, she arrogantly spoke over me the entire time explaining how she was correct and my insurance companies were not. When I finally forced myself into the one sided conversation I told her to get a proof of coverage from my secondary (which the insurance company told me to do if any problems came up) and Beth, with an annoyed tone in her voice and an impatient sigh told me she would call them but said she already knew the correct answer(yes she said that) and that she'd call me back after to let me know what they said. This was 5 days ago and she never called me back, I don't even know if she called the insurance company and I doubt if she even did she wouldn't call me back, especially if she was wrong. So needless to say I never got to see this doctor and Beth is 100% the reason. Dr. Shapiro, if you're ever wondering why your office isn't as profitable or busy as it should be, look no further, Beth and her ego is the reason. Also, I did nothing to warrant this behavior from this woman, she went off on her rant all by her egotistical self. read more

My husband had kind of an allergic emergency this morning. I called Dr. Shapiro's office right away and they were able to get him in within 3 hours. This was our first time seeing Dr. Shapiro after several months of "random" allergic reactions and inconclusive testing by our Physician. Dr. Shapiro really helped my Husband understand what was going on and recommend the best solution to solve the problem, which turned out not to be an allergic reaction at all. By far the BEST doctor I have ever be to in my 20 years of living. The wait is always very little and is he just so knowledgable. He walked me through everything and had a really deep discussion about all my issues and problems and worked with me a 100 percent. He always seems to truly care about everyone of his patients unlike other doctors. I've never had someone say that they would fight for me, and to hear that after so much disappointment is unbelievable to me.
