On top of that my mother has owned a salon for over 40 years; so it was assumed that the talent was genetically passed to me. It was not, cutting hair is REALLY hard but I've done it for my whole family for 4 years now. Fast forward to today, a friend reminded me picture day is in 2 days and alas, my normal hair cutting day is on the weekend and has since passed. Thankfully antique barbershop responded to my plea quickly. Their website is SO easy to navigate AND book. I found that there were only 2 barbers who could do kid haircuts and decided to pull my kid out of his afterschool program to come. When my 7 year old found out he froze. He didn't want to come with me knowing it was someone else cutting his hair. I bargained with him and asked him why he didn't want Preston to cut his hair? He said because he's a stranger and he doesn't want strangers cutting his hair. I was anxious going to the shop but the parking was ace and the shop was way easy to find. My kid was still saying how he didn't want to go through with it while walking through the doors but Preston greeted us so warmly that my kid hopped up on the chair and sat like a stone. Preston made quick conversation with my kid and gained his trust. Preston moved quickly and cut my 7 year old hair in 30 minutes. It was incredible. Preston spoke to my son the entire time and it came so easily for the both of them. As we were walking out my son said "I think only three people can cut my hair now. You, grandma and him." This is is the one time I had come in as a walk-in, asking for a haircut. I was asked "Do you want a men's haircut?" Which I thought was a strange question. I visibly have short hair and I am in their system from past visits "Because we don't really do.. other haircuts" This comment made me step back a little. It made me feel a little unwelcomed but proceeded to ask for times anyway. My boyfriend was with me, and we asked for "The Works" which from what I understand is a full service haircut. I read the variety of reviews and made the choice to book an appointment with Sam based on his bio on the website. I am very happy that I booked my appointment. Sam was very friendly and engaging. He explained my options based on my hair type. He did not pressure me or push anything on me and allowed me to explain my needs. He did a great job cleaning up my neckline, washing my hair and executing the haircut that met my request. Within the shop there are 3-4 chairs, they have an app you can use to choose your haircut type, the time and day and the Barber of your choice. I really appreciate the ease of the application. My son needed a fresh cut, and we decided to try Antique Barbershop, so glad we did! L.B. was incredible. The haircut itself was **top-notch**. He listened carefully to what he wanted and executed it perfectly. The real standout was the **awesome design** L.B. added to the side of my son's head! He seemed to have an infinite amount of energy...like he could to 100 haircuts and never get tired. There was also a guy in there who cut my hair a few other times, Jason. Not sure if either is still around...in my experience, hairdressers float around between shops/salons. In my younger years, I remember our family followed one around between - count 'em - FIVE different salons. Maybe a sixth! And the others we had, likewise, although between maybe 2-3. Somehow though, we never stayed with them for all that many years. Anyhow, looks like this Lake Grove Barber Shop is still going as strong as ever!!
