Was searching for an endocrinologist to see my wife and found a listing in vitals.com for Dr…read more Gardner Scott Smith, MD at Sage West. When we called the woman who answered the phone was really weird about answering any questions , like "we can't discuss who any of our doctors are..." and she wouldn't acknowledge whether this doctor sees people in Lander or not, refused to give any appointment information. Very weird! It was all very secretive and sneaky. My wife ended up finding an endocrinologist in another state and had to wait months to be seen, but has proactively been trying to get all medical records sent to give a clear picture of what has happened in the lead-up to her condition. She downloaded a HIPPA records release form from the HIPPA Journal website. This is valid in 48 of 50 states, and the website also has free downloads for the two states that have their own forms, Texas and California. My wife completed the form and hand delivered it to various medical care providers, including Sage West. Sage West was the only provider who said they couldn't use the form because it 'didn't have a line where she included her date of birth.' Sage West has treated her and knows her date of birth and has her records, however they made her drive back to the hospital and hand write her date of birth at the top of the firm, but they didn't ask her to sign or initial the handwritten information. The woman who called on the phone and told her she needed to drive to the hospital could have done this, but she wouldn't, so my wife INSISTED upon signing her full, legal name under the handwritten DOB. This is just bizarre. I've had one exceptionally good experience with an ER RN named Hannah - she was phenomenal, plus a number of mediocre experiences and a few absolutely horrendous experiences. When you go to the ER they will not tell you which doctor is working until you fill out the paperwork and provide your identification and insurance cards. It's just highly weird. A lot of news (negative) doesn't get covered because this hospital spends money with local media on advertising and sponsorships. When my wife broke her arm at home we drove to Casper and are thankful we did, it was a clean break, wasn't surgical and figured in Lander they wouldn't have been as honest because they are profit driven - we be,I eve they would have made it surgical even if not medically necessary. When I broke my leg it was surgical and I had a wonderful surgeon -Dr. Britt - who left the area during the course of my care due to "the dirty instruments scandal" at Sage Westand I was pretty much dropped like a hot potato. Nobody ever contacted me for the free lab work and screenings they promised in the media to see if I had been affected by the unsafe procedures. I ended up going to Casper for this at my own expense. They have a cardiac rehab program that is really quite good. It's never the place you want to go, it's a last resort, but if you live here long enough you will experience it for yourself. We have also had visitors come from other states and three have ended up at Sage West for things ranging from altitude sickness, dehydration, viruses, etc... and we are happy to report they all lived through it.

My son had to have an emergency surgery here. They discharged us the same day. They gave us…read morepaperwork stating red flags to look out for. After he started showing these signs, I called the hospital. They said they called the surgeon and she said she absolutely wouldn't give him antibiotics and to administer OTC fever reducers. He continued to have fever and other bad signs, and each time I called they blew me off. Finally I took him to his PCP because I knew he was suffering. They immediately determined he had an infection, and he had to be life flighted to a children's hospital in another state.
