    Northgate Animal Clinic

*WARNING!* THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY CLINIC!…read more We Moved here in September and set up my two Springer Spaniels with Northgate on a high recommendation from my neighbor. Reviews for Dr. Clark were acceptable so we thought we were set. My husband met Dr. Clark on first visit and liked his personality instantly. Unfortunately my 8 yr old Springer developed severe watery diarrhea and vomiting the first week of February. We assumed he got ahold of a gecko, bad grass, etc and started him on the traditional chicken/rice diet. When he still had diarrhea after a few days we took him to Dr. Clark. He prescribed Rocky a med Metronidazole, and a probiotic powder. We followed the protocol and after ending that round of meds, Rocky had 2 good days of bowel movements and then returned to the diarrhea and vomiting. Went back to Northgate on the 20th and saw Dr. Lindsay Gallagher. She met with Rocky and I and I asked for an x-ray. She wanted to do bloodwork first. Bloodwork came back with white cells elevated among other endocrines elevated but she stated it was all normal considering what was going on, didn't believe a x-ray was warranted. Sent us off with another round of the same meds, sold us sensitive stomach wet and dry food. All went well, Rocky ate the wet food fine, but eventually wouldn't eat at all, he hated the dry food and then started showing formed small black stool. I called Northgate, very explicitly explained what was going on with Rocky and the response was I'll have a tech look at my notes and call you back. We waited all day. Finally at 4:45 I call again and they had me hold. Reception came back on the line and said Dr. doesn't believe it's a toxicity reaction to the med (my first suggestion) and thinks he has an allergy. "We have Benedryl if you'd like to pick it up." BENEDRYL?!!! He was not drinking, not eating and still black stool! I asked again for ultrasound or xray and was told they couldn't see my boy until 2 days later, and weren't sure if he'd even have an X-ray then. Next morning Rocky was so lethargic I could hardly walk him outside to go to the bathroom. He walked so slow and panted. Called Northgate again and told them how much worse this was getting. Office Manager said take him to an Animal Hospital. We finally got an appt at a wonderful Animal Hospital at 5:00 that night. As soon as that doctor looked at Rocky's gums she said it this isn't dehydration, this is anemia. They took Rocky outside to catch a urine sample and he collapsed and died despite their efforts to give him CPR. They had taken the simple x-ray and his intestines were enlarged and had perforated (hence the black stool), he had been bleeding internally. My 8 yr old beautiful funny dog, so dearly loved, died all because that clinic saw no urgency in his symptoms and couldn't be bothered to take an x-ray. If I could give them less than 1 star, I would. STAY AWAY FOLKS.

The answer was she is a rescue so maybe she has a head injury, well you would think that test would be done to find out if that was the case, but no. I had to ask for an MRI which showed nothing wrong in the brain. I asked if they could do a lower extremity MRI/XRAY, etc. They did not feel it was necessary They kept our poor baby on multiple anti-seizure medications without investigating the issue that was causing the seizures. Long story short, Lily woke up one Sunday acting very ill. We took her to the animal ER and the vet found cancer of the spine which had spread due to being undetected. We had to put her down. It was awful. She was my soul dog! I miss her so much. Also, we had a cat that was a feral cat that we rescued, he had feline aids. He began to get sick and we kept asking what the prognosis was and each time getting an encouraging report that he would be okay. He ended up losing so much weight, he looked emaciated and Pine Ridge told us he would need to be hospitalized there for a couple of days which was a couple of thousand dollars. We had no problem paying the money if the prognosis was truly positive. Two days after the hospitalization he was still terribly sick. We asked the staff again if he was going to recover fully because he had lost so much weight and if he was in pain. They told us we should probably put him down. You mean to tell me they didn't know that two days prior? We had literally paid so much money to this clinic and the care for our beautiful pets was not a good experience. I hope that this review will be used for the staff to reframe their thought process their protocol and communications with patients and the sweet animals they care for every day. I hope they listen to the owners of their pets. Usually, owners have a good sense when things are wrong.
