Saw him for three weeks, then patient abandoned me. He pretends to care, but does not do a good job at that. Got me on medication that made me throw up for weeks even after I stopped seeing him and refused to switch it. Cancelled a very needed appointment less than 24hrs with no notice. Did not offer a referral, or to refill medications, and basically left me to suffer saying I needed more "serious" help despite me explaining why hospitals don't help me. Which is illegal to do by the way! I met a new psychiatrist and she got me on new meds that worked asap and she was far more helpful, knowledgeable, and caring than Tallman ever was. Not to mention, she promised me I would never see a hospital BECAUSE SHE DOES HER JOB. Tallman is lazy and picks and chooses who he wants to actually care for. He is not a good person, let alone a good doctor. Leaves all scheduling and communication between patients and doctor up to poor staff who are overwhelmed. Do not recommend whatsoever unless you are looking to be absolutely miserable. Tallman does not deserve to be a doctor, let alone should not be caring for people who need actual help. Has any other patient woke up in the cardiac care unit with no memory of the last 24 hours? Anyone else been told the prescribed amount of antidepressants resulted in serotonin syndrome, basically a life threatening condition from too high a dose of prescribed serotonin uptake Inhibitors?? Anyone? Acknowledged his error, but refused to reimburse for medical expenses, ambulance, HOSPITAL BILL, etc. Heartless. Why did I have to pay, in more ways than one, for his admitted poor judgement. First cause no harm. I was harmed! Now I do see at least one other person who had serotonin syndrome with permanent physical disabilities. Anyone else? Isn't that one mistake a person,no less a doctor, would not want to repeat? Isn't one patient enough? One too many. read more

Why this person's name keeps coming up in conversation as a good psychiatrist in Santa Cruz is beyond me. I saw him several years ago for only four sessions for mild depression. His behavior was absolutely bizarre! He seemed disconnected in the meetings. Long awkward pauses and blank, empty stares. Rarely said anything helpful. I'd have to prompt him to talk. I invited my husband to a session to see for himself-- and he agreed, Tallman was so weird! I discontinued sessions with him immediately. read more

Dr. Tallman and his assistant, Kelly, make a great team. I am grateful for the support I have received from both of them. Dr. Tallman is an excellent listener and offers careful advice when possible. Additionally, he and Kelly have responded to sundry information requests (phone calls, forms, paperwork) from a variety of agencies and insurance companies promptly and effectively; they always keep me up to date on these communications. I get a warm and fuzzy feeling that the three of us are working together with my best interests in mind, i.e., that they really are kind and caring and are not just doing a job and collecting their fee. I've been seeing Dr Jonathan Tallman for many years. I was misdiagnosed by him, I was also left on the wrong dosage of a medication by him and given the wrong medical advice which caused a horrific psychosis lasting over two years. During the course of this psychosis Dr Tallman did not change my medication, he never once tried to hospitalize me, he saw my condition deteriorating and getting worse and worse before his eyes but failed to take any lifesaving actions that would have resulted in my recovery. I lost my source of income, I lost my apartment, I ended up homeless, I completely lost my mind, my relationships were severely damaged as a result of this psychosis my entire life and reputation was destroyed. After hospitalizing myself twice I was put on a medical probation by the head of the psych unit I was in, he centered the entire medical probation around finding a new psychiatrist because of Dr Tallman's negligence. I was a healthy, happy, and outgoing person before I started seeing Dr Tallman. Now I am a shell of my former self I have lost all of my self-confidence. I would hate for this to happen to another patient. In all the years I've seen Dr Tallman I've never seen compassion from him, he has always put money first before patients' welfare or wellbeing. read more

I have been going to Dr. Tallman for years. Although I do not do "talk therapy" with him, he is always attentive and and caring & wants to know what is going on in my life. (it is costly but no more than most other Dr.s offering the same service) I am in recovery from drugs/alcohol and he has lent a sympathetic/non-judgmental ear and is supportive of my program and desire to be off of medications that could be potentially addictive. He, unlike other psychiatrists I have seen, does not insist I stay on medications nor "push" prescriptions on me, but respects what my needs/desires are regarding my treatment. In the past when I was prescribed an SSRI and had a bad reaction he recommended I stop taking it immediately. I was surprised by some of the reviews. I know 2 other patients that also see him that are receiving the care that they need and are very happy with him. I highly recommend Dr. Tallman. :-) read more

A terrible waste of time and money. Everything looks good from the outside, including his beautifully decorated office. But I saw him for around a year and he did not diagnose me correctly, and refused to try a single other medication when the ONE he was willing to prescribe did not work. (Which by the way was the most expensive med of that class). He lacked compassion and empathy in his treatment. My psychologist even called him to ask him to try other options and he would not. Since then, I have been diagnosed correctly and given medication that works by another psychiatrist. I have been looking for a good Psychiatrist for many years. I was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder 10 years ago by a good doctor who retired shortly after he diagnosed me. The meds he put me on worked for awhile, but I still had trouble with bouts of depression since then. Thankfully I found Dr. Tallman. My old meds were out of date and now there are new meds for my condition. I have only been on them for about a month and What a Difference! I feel normal again which is saying a lot after years of serious deperssion, insomnia & some suicidal thoughts. Although I have not known him very long, he is a very nice man who listened to me and took notes for 50+ minutes at my first appointment. 2nd appointment was about 20 minutes and again, I was very impressed with everything about him. He is very knowledgeable, calm & caring. As much as I dislike most doctors of this type, I am looking forward to seeing him again tomorrow. Finding a pshy doc that takes insurance is impossible in this town, but he is worth every penny. My whole outlook on life is 100% improved....in 1 month! He is truly a Godsend. wow! i almost died under this man's care. i moved to california with a diagnosis of bi-polar but was on only one medication. these years later, after trying many combos, i am finally stable, through no help at all from Dr. Tallman. he let me keep taking an ssri (never with bi-polar! rule #1) and as a result i had serotonin syndrome, on top of the unchecked bi-polar without the right meds. it's a little known syndrome with far reaching consequences! it's something some people die from and it had taken 1/2 my vision away, i couldn't drive a car, i shook uncontrollably, my limbs were jerking uncontrollably, and i was hyper sensitive to light. at no point did he notice any of this, let alone help me. i was finally seen by someone from the County Healthcare system who was shocked to see how the meds he gave me were contributing to my problems instead of helping. I found him to be more interested in gettting paid than anything else. in fact, before he was even done writing a refill, he'd say "will that be check, cash or credit?" he gave me about 15 minutes of time and charged me $150!!! he never dug around to see how he could help me. never asked anything more than "how are your meds working?" i was in a place where i couldn't tell how my meds where working because i was in a constant mania. in the end, i moved and after an attempted suicide, i got REAL help and am sooooo happy to say, i'm doing great! if i had stayed under his care, i wouldn't be here. it's truly that simple! run, don't walk, away from this man. i think he should have his license revoked!!!! read more

Dr Tallman LISTENS to me. He was willing to try many different meds until we found the combo that best treats my illness, but not before doing a thorough interview. He is honest, sensitive, and gleans key insights from the narratives I disclose. He has clarified major dilemmas by doing so. He also explains things (I'm very inquisitive) so it's accessible to me, including some of the biological complexities of my issues. He's well rounded, as his medical training is led by a soft and caring disposition which invites a healthy patient doctor relationship to develop. read more

Honestly, the worst psychiatrist I have ever seen. I was seeing him for almost 2 years, and like the other reviewer said, he just kept me on the SAME medication, which worked during a period of my life when my anxiety was not as heavy. However, recently, in the last 2 months, I have had THE worst anxiety of my life, I haven't been able to sleep longer than two hours, and when I do sleep, it just feels like lucid dreaming. I have seen him 5 or 6 times in these 2 months, and he STILL prescribed the same medication, and just kept trying to give me medications for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I am neither of those things, nor even close to it. I have insomnia and anxiety, plain and simple. I even told him, I want something that will work, not something that has POSSIBLE side effects of sleepiness or "mood enhancing". My mood is fine, it's the anxiety and insomnia that is my problem. I saw him for a final time, and told him straight up, I can't afford to keep coming back every week to try some other medication, and of course, he didn't listen, even after I suggested one medication that is the same class of what I am already taking, and he wouldn't listen to that either. It seems to me like he thinks I am some drug seeker, when really, I just want some peace of mind and sleep. I have seen the sun come up and down everyday for the last 2 months, and it is killing me. It seems to me like he just wants more money, so he purposely prescribes things that may not work, because of how easy is it to just fit in a last minute appointment. This last appointment made me the most angry I have ever been. He seems to have a god complex, and just bases all of his decisions on what he's read in a book. It really saddens me, because I was seeing him for 2 years, and I thought he would actually listen to my concerns, but I guess not. I would only recommend seeing him if you are willing to try multiple different meds, and have the funds to come back every week, or if your problem is minor. Definitely NOT worth $150 for 15 minutes of not getting listened to. If I could rate him zero stars, I would because I am VERY unsatisfied. It's even at the point where my family is frustrated with him as well, because he just does not listen. He's not open to suggestions, he does not work with the patients, he just prescribes random drugs that have no relevance to the problems I was going through. Now I am stuck having to find a new psychiatrist. Do not see Dr. Tallman, you're wasting your money. read more
