I still benefit from what Larry taught me over 10 years ago, probably 15 on some tips. How many people can you say that? I probably saw Larry over all those years less than 10 times (or called by phone when out of town). But the guidance he gives are lasting life skills that help everyday. And if you call him, he picks right up, no 'who are you and why haven't you been here' talk. Besides, he has a good sense of humor which is also a big plus. Practical skills and humor and forever skills - thank you!

I've seen a few therapists over the years and been impressed with Landeen. When I read the other reviews, I see mentally unbalanced people complaining about nonsensical issues--someone complaining about not getting a prescription for cannabis (?!) (I'm pretty sure you can get that anywhere) and someone else with OCD complaining about Landeen "believing the 'claims' of another doctor" which sounds like paranoia.

I suffered memory loss and felt way more depressed than I had before my partner had died which was shocking. I told him all this, but he just gave me more drugs. I decided at one point that I wasn't bipolar. I thought to myself that I was just an energetic person who was experiencing deep grief and sadness. Little by little, I weaned myself off of all the drugs. I sought out grief therapy and went for a few years. Even though I was in deep sadness, I felt surprisingly better off all these medications. I felt like I had a real shot at sorting out my grief. It's been 16 years since my guest partner died and perhaps 15 since I saw this "doctor." Turns out I was right. I'm just a enthusiastic energetic person who was going through deep grief. My life is pretty great now. I live in a beautiful place, have a job I like, I even met a special someone and we've been together for 4-5 years. The so-called medication he had me on did a lot of damage. I had to learn how to read as fast as I could before, I played a lot of memory games to get my memory back, and more importantly, I sought grief counseling to actively work on what was really troubling me. This quack of a doctor did a lot of damage and didn't listen to me during a very vulnerable time in my life. The careless and apathetic way he treated me was one of the more traumatizing things that happened to me after my first partner died. He never listened to me, he never took my complaints about the medication seriously, and he kept telling me I was this absolutely hopeless case while shoving more medications down my throat that made my life worse. Most importantly, he absolutely misdiagnosed me. It was absolutely degrading and dehumanizing. Please avoid Liss.

For issue resolution, Dr. Becker uses his own method called "The Intentional Dialogue," which puts the all the work at the feet of the listener, or in my case, the object of abuse. He hands out red, plastic cards with this info printed (copy of card uploaded with review) for clients to use at home, and I found myself weekly telling Dr. Becker that his red card is giving carte blanche to my partner's abusive patterns. He continually insisted that if I am following his protocols, then there should be no issue with my partner. If *I* truly was working to make my partner feel "mirrored, validated, and empathized" then we would have no problems. I kept pressing that this is not the case, so he asked us to record our issue conversations. After listening to these over a few months, he finally said to us, "Well, maybe when A is having a reeeally bad day, B should get a spa day." This was NOT an attempt at lightheartedness: Dr. Becker advised me that after a brutal day of listening to monologuing verbal abuse, I should go to a salon for respite. A "reeeally bad day" happens for A more than once a week, and I already do my own toes. When we left that final appointment, I told my partner I will never return to Dr. Becker because mani-pedis will not fix this relationship. He said, "Fine, find the next one," so I did. Dr. Becker was the third of five relationship therapists we saw over the years, and by far the worst. During year two, he began a practice of frequently eating lunch during our appointments, and I am glad to see others report he fell asleep during their sessions because that's sure what it looked like to us, too. Jeffrey Becker enables abuse, and I would not rely on him to care for a house plant.

I don't mind being so public with my review, as the other reviewer in 2016 mentioned that it is indeed a personal and private decision, and many people have a stigma about receiving psychiatric care. She's a trusted counselor for me, and helped me through many life and job changes, and most recently helped me with coping with grief as I lost a parent after a long struggle with lung disease. After our relationship of many years together, she has a solid handle on what my personal stressors and triggers are, and provides me with a plan that we discuss together and follow through on. It's not all about writing an Rx and letting you go, it's about finding releases, cognitive behavioral changes, and working through issues by redefining and redirecting the issue itself. I recommend her highly for at least a "go-to visit" to see if there's a good connection. Her office accepts (as of 02/2017) Blue Cross / Blue Shield HMO, and Blue Cross PPO. Call to verify if your own insurance is accepted. :-) Best of luck finding a good fit with a counselor, and don't hesitate to send me a message if I can answer any other questions for you.
